Foxhole 0 Penryn 4

Saturday 22nd December 2007

The scoreline was extremely harsh on Foxhole who had fought back well after conceding a bizarre opener to dominate the game before succumbing to three late goals once Rowe had been pushed forward. However, despite creating numerous chances against a ponderous visiting defence, poor finishing again proved decisive.

On 10 minutes, Butcher's wind-assisted drop kick bounced over Holland, but Foxhole soon took control, with Panter, Giles and Bromley (twice) unable to convert presentable opportunities. Penryn looked decidedly average, only exerting some pressure late on in the half without threatening to extend their advantage.

The second half initially followed a similar pattern. Bromley and Dillon each drove wide, Hill burst through only to be denied by the legs of Butcher, and Panter headed over after a scramble. With 15 minutes remaining, Rowe moved upfront and almost grabbed an immediate equaliser, but his header from Bromley's cross lacked power.

Unfortunately, in Penryn's first attack for some time, Lawrence soon released the otherwise anonymous Ryan Trudgian who calmly rounded the exposed Holland; Foxhole responded with a Bromley free kick, while Hill squandered another one-on-one, this time lamely over-running the ball. In injury time, Lawrence centred for fellow substitute Rabone to cleverly head home the third before Marles, looking suspiciously offside, ran clear. Unlike when Foxes had regularly found themselves in a similar position, you just knew he would score.

Foxhole (3-5-2): Ryan Holland 6; Colin Morris 7, Richard Fairclough 7, Mark Rowe 6; Jason Warne 6, Martin Giles 6, Adam Bromley 7, Jeff Dillon 5, Steve Panter 6 (sub. Kyle Friendship 5); Adam Holland 6 (sub. David Grose 5), Scott Hill 5.
