St Blazey 1 Bodmin 2

Wednesday 26th December 2007

A disappointing game was won by substitute Ovens in the 93rd minute, capitalising on a mix-up in the home rearguard missing Ralph, who had suffered a facial injury after a collision with the blameless O'Hagan. Hewitt had given St Blazey a fourth minute lead from close range, and the lead was maintained in relative ease until the break, Philp only being extended once when tipping Madden's free kick over the bar. Although Underhay struck the outside of the post and O'Hagan ought to have done better after cleverly being set up by the otherwise ineffective Baker, it was a strangely subdued performance by Bodmin, at least until a switch to 3-5-2 on the half hour.

Bodmin dominated the second-half without looking particularly convincing, although the best chances fell to Hewitt and Drummond. The belated arrival of Ovens provided the required cutting edge, and he created the equaliser on 81, crossing for O'Hagan to nod the ball into the path of Campbell to flick home. It was no surprise when Ovens deftly lifted the winner over Philp in injury time, but St Blazey's effort probably merited a point.

St Blazey (4-4-2): Dave Philp; Glen Duff, Damon Mulready, Lee Whetter, Bradley Ralph (sub. Tom Hunter); Will Tinsley, Michael Body, Simon Parnell, Wayne Hewitt; Daniel Nancarrow (sub. Steve Sims), Matt Drummond.

Both teams lacked passion, with the exception of Steve Ovens who proved to be the difference between the sides.

Hope Ralphy is ok,he should have come back to Newquay and he could have had a quiet christmas, whoever dreamed up the fixture list ,has denied alot of local clubs lucrative takings.
