Dave Deacon Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Cornwall play the RAF at St Blazey next Wednesday in the South and West Counties Championship with a 7.30pm kick-off. The 18-man squad is dominated by Bodmin players (11) and Falmouth Town (5). Once again the manager is Ray Nicholls, Trevor Mewton is his assistant. The full squad is: Kevin Miller, Paul Madden, Leigh Underhay, Darren Gilbert, Steve Simmonds, Danny Bance, Danny O'Hagan, Huw Morgan, Steve Ovens, Nick Campbell and Paul Baker (all Bodmin Town); Matt Cusack, Aaron Cusack, Jamie Morrison-Hill, Glen Squires and Brinton Nute (all Falmouth Town); Andy Butcher (Penryn) and Kevin Lawrence (Porthleven).
Guest Peppermint Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Great to see ex Newquay player Glen Squires given his chance - throughly deserved.
Guest john Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 THE CORNWALL SQUAD FOR THE SOUTH WEST COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WITH THE ROYAL AIR FORCE AT BLAISE PARK. I THINK IT IS TO BE PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 5TH DECEMBER AT 7.30PM. KEVIN MILLER, PAUL MADDEN, LEIGH UNDERHAY, STEVE SIMMONDS, DANNY BANCE, HUW MORGAN, NICK CAMPBELL, DARREN GILBERT, DANNY O HAGEN, STEVE OVENS, PAUL BAKER (BODMIN) BRINTON NUTE, MATT CUSACK, AARAN CUSACK, JAMIE MORRISON HILL, GLEN SQUIRES (FALMOUTH) KEVIN LAWRENCE (PORTHLEVEN) ANDY BUTCHER (PENRYN) WELL TRURO MAY DOMINATE RADIO CORNWALL BUT THEY DO NOT DOMINATE THE CORNISH TEAM. NOT ONE TRURO PLAYER IN THE SQUAD! I THINK THIS IS GOOD FOR CORNISH FOOTBALL!
cornishteddyboy Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Perhaps Truro won't release them like the Cornish Pirate players don't play rugby for the county due to things like insurance.
A One And A Six Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Why is it good for Cornish football that no Truro players are included in the Cornwall squad? Surely that would make it a stronger and more successful squad. :c:
r_and_l Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 I could be wrong but doesn,t it have something to do with the truro players contracts???
KIT 65 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Why cant you talk about anything without dragging Truro into it?I reckon you must wake up in the middle of the night shouting TRURO TRURO TRURO.An awful afliction envy,im glad I dont suffer from it. KIT.
local_boy Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Truro players aren't allowed in the Cornish team due to contract restrictions, it was the same last year aswell!! Would the Truro squad ever play the cornwall team for a fundraising day etc, I think it would make a good game
tms no9 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 refering to that first comment what are you talking about my friend surey truro being the strogest side in cornwall then there players would only make the squad and performance better????
Guest Terrier Tom Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 WELL TRURO MAY DOMINATE RADIO CORNWALL BUT THEY DO NOT DOMINATE THE CORNISH TEAM. NOT ONE TRURO PLAYER IN THE SQUAD! I THINK THIS IS GOOD FOR CORNISH FOOTBALL! Contracted players are not allowed to represent a County side; this may begin to explain it john! This is an FA stipulation and nothing to do with clubs. :c:
Guest Sullivan Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Bitterness is back! If Truro allowed their players to play for Cornwall they would supply over half the players. So the Cornwall squad would be Truro & Bodmin combined. They could be called Trurodmin or something :D
Tommy Matthews Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Of course Truro players would strengthen the side, but contract players cannot be selected.
tms no9 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 i agree with nanks although im very sure the truro players would strenghen the squad only cornish born should be alowed in the squad :clapper:
fireman Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Nanks, you must be cornish as you have played for nearly every club down here !!Can't you stay at one club instead of moving around every few months? Or is it that they let you go after theve seen you play? Why would you begrudge any Truro player cornish or otherwise playing for the county if they were able. I think thats illegal to exclude on race, creed or nationality isn' it? I am sure most of them would want to if they were not contracted. Its the FA that won't allow contracted players to be in the county side, nothing to do with their club. However saying that I doubt if Truro would release them anyway which is more the pity. Who are you playing for now? Come the new year I expect you will be on the move again, right or wrong?????
Nanks Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Bloody hell, I have touched a nerve havnt I?!! My opinion is that you should be Cornish to play for Cornwall. You dont see Scottish players playing for Engalnd or the Welsh playing for Ireland. And Firman, how the hell have I upset you?
Lafs Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Fireman that was a bit harsh was'nt it? Come on, answer the question from Nank's. From your outburst id suggest maybe Nanks stole your Mrs or something similar?!!
Guest Peppermint Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Completely uncalled for Fireman. Perhaps when you have thought about this outburst an apology would be in order to Nanks. Nanks always gives 100% on the field for whatever club he represents and there a lot more players who have played for more clubs! I don't know why but why the abuse simply because someone mentioned Truro players not in the County Squad - as Tommy Matthews quite rightly stated contract players cannot play for the County. Why then all the vitriol from City supporters when someone was just making an observation. It is fairly obvious to anyone that follows football that City would supply a good number of the County squad if rules permitted them to play.
Dave Deacon Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 Would having a completely Cornish-born side attract any more local interest or spectators to the games? Of course, the other question is, if we had a completely Cornish-born side, would we actually have a good enough side to win any games?
Guest john Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 no i agree my first comment was wrong about truro! contracted players are not allowed to play for the county! if they could i would pick Jake Ash. He is a great player who was discovered by Falmouth! Who else plays for truro first team that is cornish? who is nanks? who does he play for?
Dave Deacon Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Posted November 29, 2007 Who plays for Falmouth who comes from Falmouth? Who plays for Liskeard who lives in Liskeard? Who is from Saltash who plays for Saltash? Does it honestly matter where Truro's players come from? No not at all. As for who asking who Nanks is - that just suggests you actually know little about Senior football in Cornwall! This topic is about the Cornwall squad, not Truro City!
Nanks Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Maybe playing the games on a Friday night or a Sunday afternoon or having a limit on a number of players from teams, eg max of 3 players from any side. And there are defo good enough Cornish players out there!
fireman Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Just a joke, don't get all het up about it. Nanks is a nice bloke and all I was asking is why he moves around so much. Did I hit a nerve with some folk?
tms no9 Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Bloody hell, I have touched a nerve havnt I?!! My opinion is that you should be Cornish to play for Cornwall. You dont see Scottish players playing for Engalnd or the Welsh playing for Ireland. And Firman, how the hell have I upset you? ryan giggs plays for wales born in england i beleive???
cornishteddyboy Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 What about players in the Combo such as Domonic Pullen from Helston. 28 goals so far this season. Are Truro Reserves contracted as well? Do the selectors look at Combo games/ECPL/SWPL Div1 West or are their eyes just looking at the SWPL Premier when they chose the squad?
r_and_l Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 cornwall squad selection seems the same as englands players only get selected from top clubs maybe thats because the selectors dont have time to watch other clubs there are lots of quality players that never get a look in
