Dave Deacon
This week the selection process for the County Youth Under-18 representative side starts all over again with two open trials taking place. On Tuesday at Cornwall College, Camborne followed two days later on Thursday at St Stephen’s Brannel School, Glynn Hooper and his coaching staff will be hoping for a good turnout to start the season off. It’s a season that will look slightly different to the two previous campaigns that Hoops has been in charge as at a recent South West Counties Championship meeting, it was decided to have a three county group instead of four, and Cornwall were placed in with Somerset and Devon. However this won’t mean a reduction in matches as the Duchy will play both of these counties twice, home and away, which is a change in previous seasons. Cornwall are also in The Mick Parry Cup (of which we are holders winning it when this competition was last staged in season 2013-14) and have an away tie at Wiltshire, while in The FA County Youth Cup it’s an away trip awaiting against the winners of either Kent or Devon. The County’s Governance Manager, Richard Pallot, is hoping to announce fixture dates and a full fixture listand venues by the end of July (including warm up games and the usual trial match against Plymouth Argyle).
