Cornwall v Cornwall to come!!!

The Cornwall FA have organised a Cornwall U18 v Cornwall Senior Side match, to be held at Helston on Thursday 18th May with a 7.15 pm kick-off.

The reason for this match is that it gives the county an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of this season's county youth squad and for players to be presented with appropriate county caps and awards which wasn't possible at the FA County Youth Cup final at Barnet.

Wow - if Glynn and his team and CCFA can make this happen - what better end of season could you want (especially for those of us who are already missing watching local football).

The senior team has players from all of Cornwalls top teams - between them they could fill a house with trophies / medals, from FA Vase winner to every senior cup / league  south of Birmingham.

The U18 team have broken all County records and already have over half the squad as starters in the SWPL Prem, which for their age is remarkable - those not SWPL last season, will no doubt be next season!   The chance to play against their senior counterparts is something that never happens - and for those senior players to give them a chance is fantastic.

Whatever team you support, as an end of season finale, Helston is the place to be on Thursday 18th - and don't dismiss the U18's giving their seniors a few shocks!?

Was a very enjoyable evening and great for the U18's to have an end of season get together - especially those who 'qualified' for their caps this season but did not have the opportunity to have them presented and will be too old next season. Remarkable really that this season saw Charlie Hambly reach 23 caps (a County record), James Haywood, Ed Harrison and Mattie Buchan all reaching mid teen caps and Josh Penrose, Joe Adkins, Olly Walker, Cam Turner, Jack Rapsey and Luke Gwilliam all qualifying for their caps last night - Olly and Luke and the rest of the squad hopefully adding loads more caps next season. I think Luke, Charlie and Ed having also started every match for the County this season - an achievement in itself.

The County senior side had a few missing players due to work commitments and battling through Truro traffic for the ko time, but they were ably replaced by a couple of Falmouth and Helston players. Great credit must go to these players - they gave up their time and raced to Helston to play for the County and more importantly make the evening for the U18's.

The game itself was a fairly 'strange' affair - I have never seen such a well mannered game, no swearing, no questioning decision, no dodgy tackles (but plenty of well contested tackles) and respect shown by every player, manager, official taking part. The score line flattered the senior side a little, the outfield play was edged by the seniors, but their power / game management was the difference - and some clinical finishing, unlike the u18's who missed a couple of 'sitters'.

Been a great season for the County Reps sides and best of luck to Glynn and his team - next years trials are starting soon and I would urge all players / clubs to put forward their talented youngsters - if they have half the season of this one, they will have a great time.

Well done to both sides. Played in almost a friendly feeling to it. Although looking at the Cornwall seniors side it is probably the weakest I can ever remember in all my years in Cornish Football. I know some of the guys had to be drafted in short notice as a few of the regulars were unavailable

Such is life! The main thing was that the County were able to present the lads with appropriate awards for a great season! ??

Enjoyable game and evening. Helston looking immaculate as usual. Great idea to play this game in the first place, well done to the County FA again ? Agree with Bob, 5-0 was a bit flattering for the seniors who did have quite a few pull outs before the game but a strong side nevertheless. Nothing in the game at all for the opening 35 minutes and the Youth could and probably should have been 2-0 up before the Seniors scored their quick two goals before the break. Goldie made it 3-0 on the hour with a trademark clinical finish and Hoops changed it around a bit after that, putting Luke Gwilliam in goal for the seniors and swapping the two strikers with Rob Wearne and Goldie joining Matt Buchan up front to form a potent front three for the youth with Joe Adkins and Jack Rapsey going up front for the seniors. Luke pulled off a couple of great saves one particularly from Mattie but it didn't change the course or flow of the game with the seniors adding two more goals. Joe and Jack did well up top for them I thought last 20 and Jack scored and set one up last ten minutes to give the scoreline a rather flattering look. Loved watching the youth play this season, thought Ed Harrison and Cam Turner were a match in midfield once again and the two flying wingers Josh Penrose and Tiago Soures both did some great work on either flank. As Dave said, really nice for the boys to get their caps after and the future is bright for Hoops again next season with half the squad still young enough for another year! Would stress to any young player get yourself to the trials, the coaching you will get is first class and you'll learn so much in a short space of time and who knows another run to the final could well be on the cards!!??! An experience you'll never forget as long as you play football. Good luck for next season and well done again for this, been a pleasure to watch it. ??⚽
