Cornwall Combination League and Trelawney Football League Pre-season Behaviour and Respect Meetings

Wednesday 10th August – Combination League and Trelawney Premier, Division 1 and Division 2

Meetings to start at 7:15pm

Venue – Holmans Sports and Social Club

The Cornwall FA, Combination League and Trelawney League will be holding pre-season meetings and inviting managers, a club official and the captains of all sides in membership of the respective leagues, we will also be inviting all referees who officiate on these leagues to attend.

This meeting will give all parties an opportunity to discuss how behaviour can be improved across the leagues and follows on from the successful workshops already carried out with a wide set of stakeholders at all levels of football.

The Leagues and County Association and attendees will have an opportunity to discuss how we can work better together to improve behaviour, which would save clubs time/money and create a more constructive environment for referees and a more enjoyable experience for players and spectators.

It is extremely important that every club is represented at this meeting by the manager of the team but we would equally like to invite a club official and one player from the squad, preferably the captain.

This is your opportunity to have you say and offer ideas for solutions. It is an excellent opportunity to start the season off on a positive note and set the standards for the 2016/17 season.

If your league or division is on a date where representatives cannot attend please attend the other date (detailed in the Trelawny League Forum)

Please let myself or Richard Pallot know if you or representatives of your club will be attending the meeting

Richard @ Cornwall FA has arranged the dates. I'm sure he would have done so, although these meetings are aimed at club representatives and referees, not the league committees (of course they will be made aware of the outcome) :c:

Shame the fa have decided to make this meeting on a night when many teams train and now want a manager and captain to miss a final training session before the first league game lol

If it saves your clubs money, it's got to be worth it, surely?

I am not disagreeing with the meeting not being a good idea, it is a good idea!  I just think a Monday or a Friday would maybe have been a better option so managers and some players didn't have to miss training just before the opening game of the season

Monday "still hanging out from the weekend". Friday "Bugger that, it's game day tomorrow". Any day would have been a pain in the arse  It's just the generic mid-week meeting day I suppose. I am hoping for a good attendance, there's been a lot of changes this year and I personally feel that it's important for the clubs to all be on the same hymn sheet, that way when the season comes, there won't be any nasty little surprises :)

Personally, I feel that the meetings were both advantageous and productive, with plenty of feedback coming from both the referees and the clubs.

Im optimistic that the set of guidelines that will be produced by the Working Group in the near future will be well received by all parties alike.

It is quite a cynical opinion if I'm honest, "nobody pays it any attention", the clubs and refs that were present are the ones, in my opinion that would like to see some form of change. These are the people that we want to listen too; not the cynics nor the people that couldn't be bothered to come.

The truth is these meetings are just a waste of time when club marks affect a ref remove clubs marking referees so they can do there job and not get marked down for booking a player that way desent would of been I radicated years ago.

Obviously a referee who cannot manage both the Laws of the Game and ensuring that they can use common sense to keep the clubs "happy". There are many clubs who bemoan their own players who get cautions for dissent/foul language when it is warranted. I think the meetings have allowed for more interaction between clubs, referees and club officials and your negative attitude will not help to make things any better. I'm glad Dave and others are trying their best to sort things out. Removing club marks will make matters worse in my opinion as league/county officials will not be aware of potential problems with referees and club will believe that referees are unapproachable and it doesn't matter what the referee does as the clubs won't be able to do anything about it. Perhaps if you attended the meeting you will have had a much more positive experience.
