Guys - this was the statement put out by Probus Committee

"It is with regret that Probus FC have had to make the difficult  decision to withdraw from the East Cornwall Premier League(ECPL)  – Premier Division. This decision has not been taken lightly by the club committee, however  this eventuality has been predicted by the club over the past 2/3 years and has, unfortunately, been as a direct consequence of the clubs geographic location. Being central in Cornwall, coupled with the constitution of the ECPL,  Probus FC has been faced with excessive travelling across the season – this in turn has made player recruitment and retention more problematic than many clubs would normally experience.

Probus FC have tried, for the last two seasons, to seek support from the Combination League and CCFA  by moving sideways to that league, however the Combination League were unable to support that move for constitutional reasons. This move would have saved in excess of 750 miles per season in travelling, which with the times and  cost incurred was the single biggest reason given by leaving players.

Probus FC  have also had a proud recent history of developing youth players and bringing them through into senior (and junior football) – this has over the last three seasons seen young Probus players moving to SWPL clubs (Falmouth x2,  Penryn, Saltash x2, Wadebridge x2, St Austell,Tavistock and  Camelford x3), along with other ‘junior teams’ (Veryan, GSM, Tregony and Trispen). The development of these players and their subsequent advancement  towards achieving  their full potential has been a massive plus for all involved and whilst not regretted has numerically affected local player availability.

The creation of the Probus Reserve team, who are developing well within the Trelawney League will continue to flourish and be supported by existing players and new additions through the youth process.

Mathematically though there are simply insufficient ‘senior players’ to sustain the first team, at this time in senior football.

Probus FC would like to thank the ECPL committee for their support and help with this – the ECPL is a fantastic league, which is well run and has some outstanding teams, all of whom we wish well. We will miss many of the teams and friends we have played, just not the travelling.

Probus Reserves in the Trelawney League will now be known as Probus FC and the Trelawney League will be supplied with the new management structure post haste."

In essence the Reserve Team will continue as normal, other than they will no longer be the 'Reserves' and have a new extended management team and all last seasons players plus some new good young players who have come through from the u16's.

Really sorry to hear that Bob but perfectly understandable. As you've said mate the club has a proud history of bringing some fantastic youngsters through that are now playing or going on to the top level of Cornish football. I'm sure that philosophy will continue with the likes of yourself and Tony involved. Any young player that wants to be nurtured the right way you couldn't wish to play at a better club than Probus. Who knows Bob, perhaps there could be a bit of automatic promotion to the Combo league in a few seasons through the Trelawny league mate!! ⚽️???

I hope all the ex probus players who decided to leave the club for lower league football. Big fish small pond. Are happy with themselves now.

Big kick in the teeth over the last 3 seasons for the clubs hard working members. Many of them who have now left the club because of the attitude and non gratitude from the ex players. . Rant over. Good luck to probus in the future.
