United's 1st team squad in action.

United head to Saltash United for the 1st team’s first taste of pre-season action.

The match is a testimonial for two Saltash United players – Toby Clarke and Steve Sargison.

Torquay United player-manager is looking for more than just a kick about from his 1st team squad.

“As daft as it sounds, it is a pre-season game I want to win. I want the players to do what we will be asking of them in the season” said Kevin.

“I want us to develop our style and the way we are going to win games. I want to see a bit of character and spirit – plenty of shots, and a clean sheet.

“I’m taking it seriously because too many times in pre-season you go to these types of games and it’s just a kick about because it is ‘that’ time of year. I don’t deal with it like that. It’s a proper game and a testimonial for two of their lads. It’s great for them to have stayed with one club for as long as they have.

“My players won’t be playing at their full intensity yet, and none of them will play more than an hour, but I expect them to give it a right good go.”

Was a good performance despite the 5-1 score.  Took time to settle after going 2-0 but fought back well to go in 2-1 down.  Changed the team almost completely and couldn't handle the crosses although Menhennick twice headed narrowly wide as well as having a shot roll along the goal.  overall an impressive performance which augers well for the future.  They are home to Bideford in Saturday 2pm another tough match.  Great to see two players Clarke and Sargison being honored for ten years service.  How many clubs have one let alone two.   ..   .
