Guest ggr_garth
Jersey Youth put paid to any early aspiration's that Cornwall Youth may have had of making progress in this season's FA County Youth Cup when they came back from a 2-1 half time deficit to snatch victory by 3 goals to 2. Liam Dingle [Newquay] and Liam Eddy [ Helston Athletic] were the Cornwall goalscorers, certainly Cornwall had chances to level the match and take it to extra time, but were guilty of squandering their opportunities. Cornwall Youth return to South West Counties Championship action on November 24 when they host Berks & Bucks. The starting XI on Saturday was: Richard Pennington / Truro City Patrick Rushdon / Newquay Stuart Peters / Illogan RBL Luke Rigby / Newquay Dan Meens / Sticker Musa Saba / Illogan RBL Aaron Bicknell / Exeter City Luke Appleton / Falmouth Town Liam Eddy / Helston Athletic Liam Dingle / Newquay Cameron Palin / Camelford On the bench were: Ollie DART / Newquay Sam Hunter / Newquay Neil Slateford / Camelford Martin Moon / Truro City Rob Rosevear / Sticker Recieved from Mr David Bray, on behalf of the CCFA
Tommy Matthews
David's report pretty much sums up the game. We played some good stuff at times but at other times also looked like a side who were having their first game together. Jersey had a couple of pre-season games against Scotland U-16s and that certainly sharpened them up, as well as having training session every week. I guess it's a little easier when you're all living a few miles apart and not having to arrange training around club matches. A lot of positives came out of the game for us but I must also give Jersey a lot of credit for the way they played. They were technically very good and worked very hard for each other. We were guilty of missing chances and a lack of cohesion at times which was to be expected. I can't fault our effort but hopefully we'll get the chance to have a friendly between now and November 24 to iron out some of the creases. Thanks to all at Jersey FA for their organisation and hospitality and we wish them all the best in the next round.
Guest Postie Pidge
Just out of interest, how is there an Exeter City player in the Cornwall squad? Is he registered with a Cornish club?
Richard Rundle
Just out of interest, how is there an Exeter City player in the Cornwall squad? Is he registered with a Cornish club? Aaron was born and bred in Cornwall, his whole family are Cornish, and he still lives in St Columb. -- Richard
Guest Peppermint
Just to add to Richard's posting Aaron Bicknell played for Newquay Under 16 Team last season. His Dad Andy was the Manager and Aaron is certainly a talent to watch for the future and has Richard stated Aaron lives in St Columb Major. His Grandfather plays an important role with St Columb Minor Football Club.
