Trelawny League - Saturday April 4th 2015

Recommended Posts

Please post your results and match comments on this thread

I intend to pop into a handful of matches this afternoon for some photographs ahead of my CORNISH SOCCER mag out next week as part of it will be looking closer at the Trelawny divisons title race run-ins.

Apologies if you wonder who the two strangers are that you might see at your match for a fleeting moment or so! :ninja:

Terrific start at the Holmans v Pendeen cup tie! We were only there 10 minutes and four goals with Pendeen leading 3-1 and all their goals coming from dead-ball situations - two free-kicks and a penalty.

It'll be interesting to see how it ended up.

Just got in after watching St Day Res 2, Carharrack 1. Don't know who scored, but it went 1-0, HT, 1-1, 2-1.

Just one punch-up, pretty  tame by St Day vs Carharrack historical standards. Exciting: at 1-1 it was all Carharrack, typical Alamo stuff, then St Day broke and scored 5 mins from time.

Also watched last 25 mins of St Day vs Hayle combo: 1-0, 1-1, HT, 2-1 (pen), 2-2.

Cury 2 - 8 Four lanes.

( Half time 1-1 )

Jason 'Busby' Dyer 3

David Metcalfe 2

Liam Martyn

Andrew Saunders

Ralph Pascoe

Even first half, really but Four lanes creating the More chances down the slope, but just not being clinical enough. Then a penalty in the last few minutes of the first half, had four lanes going in with their heads down at half time.

A stern talking to, and within 9 Minutes of the restart, Four lanes had scored 4 goals.

Then just a flurry at the Cury goal and 3 more goals were scored by four lanes, Great passing on a difficult pitch being the cutting edge.

That sort of killed the game off for Cury and they didn't create anything really till the last 10 when a deflected shot went past four lanes in form keeper.

Hard luck to Jordan Davies who suffered a Dislocated/broken leg, with 6minutes left on the clock. All the best Jordan and we hope you recover from everyone at Four lanes.

Cheers Cury good bunch of footballers who are sadly struggling.

PERCY STEPHENS CUP 1/4 FINAL

Threemilestone 1, Trispen 2.

Trispen came out of the blocks well and took the lead after 7minutes from a corner, think it was Lewis Dodd who scored. Trispen had several other good chances without scoring but increased the lead on the half hour with a back post header from Dodd again following a free kick. The Stones were awarded a penalty 5 mins before half time, but Mcilroys penalty was well saved by Tangye.

The second half was all Threemilestone's and Mike Lloyd pulled a goal back with a great header from Stu Fells cross with half hour to go. The Stones threw everthing at Trispen in search of the equaliser but couldn't find that final ball.

Good luck to Trispen in the semi final, it was a fiesty game today with several bookings on both sides but i think both teams were generally well behaved, and the ref Lee Atkinson did very well to keep all 22 on the field.

Chacewater 0-3 West Cornwall

A Robbie Condie "perfect hat-trick" was enough to claim the spoils today, against a depleted Chacewater, who right up until kick off were bare bones, including their manager! But fair play, they got the game on and didn't make it easy for us, which you never expect when you go down there. For us, comfortable without being totally convincing. Probably should have scored more but 3 points and a clean sheet is great at this time of season. Unfortunately, we lost Ryan Cooper first half from a 50/50 that he came off worse in. Turns out he broke his fib and tib, so we wish him all the best in a speedy recovery. Well reffed by Jamie Marles also. Some shock results elsewhere too.

St Erme - 4 Trevenson reserves - 1

A tough game today for the home side, this was down to Trevenson and how organised they were, very difficult to break down, but eventually we broke through and got the goals and came away with the 3 pts thanks to goals from Elliott Jolly x 1, Mark Mitchell x 1 and Adam Coveney x 2

Well played to the Trevenson lads, have a good remainder of the season and if you play like that you'll be fine, a lot better than what your position suggests.

Good report. We (Trispen) came flying out the blocks and probably should have put the game beyond any doubt in the first half but fair play to Threemilestone they were very much on top in the second half but couldn't force the equaliser. We didn't play well in the second half but held on and maybe could of nicked a couple that half too. A feisty game was well reefed by Lee Atkinson.

Goals; Lewis Dodd 2.

Best of luck to Threemilestone in their remaining fixtures.

West cornwall reserves 0 camborne park 2,

Great result at cornwall college against a very good footballing side in west cornwall, going forward in the first half we created couple chances which should been put away but west cornwall had more possession but we defended well but we knew had to improve as players like owain barrett and jowan kitchener had ability to punish us if continued to give them time and space....

Going forward reece prout, pete norfolk, carl hubbard, marcus grasso and carl lee was all missed in going forward capacity few them unavailable to injury one working and the other on family weekend away, also james findlay missing through illness we had to kind of adapt the way we normally play with width instead went bit more direct using andy and matt osborn's aerial ability to our advantage and winning most of the second balls early in the second half before a disputed disallowed goal for top scorer mike catterall who gambled on flick on and put foot up to lift ball over stranded keeper into back of net for referee to judge that foot was high and dangerous and disallowed the goal, however minutes later jason brookers goal kick was controlled on chest by caterall who turned and lobbed keeper from 30 yards out.

Park was restricting west cornwall too long range shots and crosses in from deep easily defended by parks defence anthony nicholls and adam matthews outstanding all afternoon, and on 60 minutes substitute kieren rowe cross was flicked on by stuart richardson to back post where matt osborn volleyed back across goal into the roof of the net 2-0, last half an hour the game was a battle in middle park with some very committed full blooded tackles from both sides, west cornwall had great chance get goal back late on when barrett crossed for young lad in middle but last ditch tackle from joe day stopped him firing home, great performance all in all with so many regulars missing but everyone stood up and played well....

Holmans next week last league game, looking forward to it best luck to west cornwall reserves for rest of season

Fair report from what i heard Ballsax and good to chat to you in the pub.Chacewater had a number of players out today for various reasons but still put in a competitive shift.

The match was very well refereed by Jamie Marles.

We wish Ryan all the best and hope that he makes a quick and full recovery

Gwinear reserves 10 Madron Reserves 1

Gwin dominant throughout. Should have been 10-3 if it weren't for two really good one-on-one saves by the home keeper.

fair play to Madron, turned up with a bare 11, played twenty minutes with 10 due to injury and had no linesman. they didn't whinge, bitch or give up etc which is a credit to them. Not really much to say, we had plenty more chances to create a bigger scoreline but they just weren't taken.

All the best to Madron for the remainder of the season, a good bunch of lads

Gwin scorers:

Dave Bartlam 3

Connor Arthur 3

Jason Fenton 2

Josh Chandler 1

I don't come on here much but pretty much ditto on that "ballsax"  !

We gave you a game, which unfortunately I was prepared to cancel that morning having  5 players out from our previous game, but the lads had the belief to try and get a result, so credit to them to want to play against probably the "best footballing side"  in the Trelawney Prem ........

With Ian Bromwell our only recognised forward pulled up with a knee injury in warm up,  meant 90 min from me(50 year old), with that a cracking  save from your keeper from me and Gav Bennetts head from the resulting corner.. end of the day we had chances but didn't take them, where as WC had 3 shots on target 3 goals our stand in keeper had little else to do, loads of possession  you had, should have scored more but for several missed chances  West Cornwell are a quality side and I expect Trelawney Prem league winners.. Good Bunch of Guys all round... ohh Caharrack lost    lol

Best wishes to Ryan Cooper, wish you a speedy recovery

Cheers Nige and Brom66! I do try and be as honest and fair as I can on here! Cheers for the mentions about the saves, since I've started playing every other week and winding down on my playing days I've actually been playing better!!! Been shite all year!!

Jamie Marles was bang on, played the game for long enough which I think goes a long way, but still applies common sense and explains his decisions. 2nd time we've had him and was superb both times, and we lost the other time!

Good to see you too Nige, expect we'll see each other again soon!!

Update on Ryan, having an op on Monday. Again, best wishes and a speedy recovery.

Trelawny League Division 4: Ludgvan Reserves 1-0 Lizard Argyle Reserves

Ludgvan maintained their push for promotion with a narrow 1-0 win over Lizard Argyle at Fair Field.

The Hurlers, missing a number of players from the 3-1 win over Falmouth Town last week, were in control of this one for large periods, but a lack of quality in the final third meant it was a scrappy encounter.

Andy Weir, John Matthews and Jamie Leah all could have put the home side ahead in a first half in which Lizard also failed to take their chances on the counter attack.

The second period was similar to the first; lots of possession for Ludgvan but little end product.

The goal - which would ultimately turn out to be the winner - came on 60 minutes when Dan Hopkins' cross was inadvertently turned into the bottom corner by a member of the visiting defence.

Sensing they could perhaps snatch a point, Lizard piled men forward during the closing stages but some wayward shooting enabled the Hurlers to see out the game and maintain their 100% home record.

Ludgvan Reserves: J Fitchett; Southcott, Lane, Matthews, M Harris; Rowe, Fletcher, M Fitchett, J Leah; Hopkins, Weir (J Harris).

Praze An Beeble 0 - 1 Frogpool Reserves

Our first win since 2014 came in a close encounter. A lot of decent played football despite long scrappy periods of play.

Goal came from Craig Rothwell who also put in a man of the match performance in the Frogpool midfield.

Think we did just about enough to get the three points, but Praze did have an excellent half volley saved exceptionally by Alex Roberts in the Frogpool goal.

Mabe res 0-4 newlyn

better team on the day ran out comfortable winners. Newlyn won every individual battle all over the pitch. A day where you just have to put your hands up and say well played!!

we started well and created a couple of openings, newlyn scored just before half time to go in 1-0 up. A goal earlier in the second half seemed to knock is for 6 and we never looked like getting back into it. Will be a close run for the title in division 5

Trelawny 2 - Mullion v Storm

Have spent the last couple of days still trying to wrap my head around this game. After a lack lustre first half from the away side, we were 4-1 down at half time having been outplayed for large parts of the opening 45. Mullion had made us pay for a couple of errors and exposed us badly at set-pieces, whilst our only consolation was the James Chilman finish from David Mitchell's knock down. What followed next was one of the most bizarre halves of football I have witnessed. A quick-fire double for Mitchell at the start of the second half gave the away side a glimmer of hope of getting back in to the game. Not long after though, the home side restored a 2 goal cushion which could well have stopped the comeback. It didn't. Storm ploughed on and Dave Mitchell completed his hat-trick before Sam Charlton lashed home when the ball found him on the edge of the area after a corner.

Storm had the bit between their teeth and with the minutes counting down and Mullion clearly reeling, Mitchell again took full advantage to make it 6-5 to the away side. With literally seconds left, Mullion went all out to find a way through but Storm were holding firm. A long cross field ball played over the centre halves was looking to be shepherded out by Danny Wills at right back when 'keeper Gareth Barber came to cover as well. Unfortunately, a rush of blood to the head saw the keeper try and clear the ball only to clatter the onrushing  Mullion striker and a penalty was awarded. Chris Ensink stepped up to convert, complete his hat trick and equalise for the home side. There was barely enough time to kick off again afterwards.

Mullion 6 (4) - Storm 6 (1)

Storm Scorers: James Chilman, David Mitchell (4), Sam Charlton

Percy Stevens Cup Quarter Final.

Holemans Sports Club 2 v 5 Pendeen Rovers.

Once again Pendeen took to the field, with 5 players missing due to being cup tied. Nevertheless they tore in to Holemans right from the start. Sam Battersby got the first goal, after 2 mins, a well struck 25 yard free kick, just 2 mins later a penalty to Pendeen, Chris Bullock, making it 0 - 2. Back came Holemans and scoring from a good move made it 1 - 2. Straight from the kick off, Pendeen back on the attack a cross finding Chris Bullock, a well taken shot, making it 1 - 3.  Pendeen now in total control almost let it slip again but a fine save from Paul Sweeney keeping Pendeens lead in tact. Shortly after that Sam Battersby got his second and Pendeens fourth.

Second Half.

Holemans unable to find a way through  the Pendeen defence which was well marshaled by Glen Carew. The Ref was beginning to lose control of the game at this time, twice in the space of 5 mins telling the Holemans manager to move away from the Pendeens linesman, As the game grew on Pendeen stayed in total control scoring the goal of the game. Christian Whittaker scoring from 30 yards.  Holemans got a consolation goal right at the end.

Full Time 2 - 5 to Pendeen. A brilliant result.

MOM: Pendeen Football Team.

Referee: Nigel Jewell.

I never come on this forum to bad mouth people but you get it no matter what, but when the manager of Holemans sees it right to say something very disrespectful to one of the ladies watching the game at the end makes you wonder is it really worth it. A lot is said about players using bad language,I hope that manager can say he did the right thing. There were alot of women and children watching this game and it was totally uncalled for.

good luck to holmans for rest of season and with there application to combo but need to sort out the embarrassment of a manager

Newbridge Athletic 4-2 Camborne Town

Both teams started well with some end to end stuff in the first half but it was Camborne Town who had the better of the early chances coming close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Camborne through on goal but Newbridge keeper Aaron Jones dealt with what they had, the second of Camborne's efforts the closer of the two was well saved by Aaron sticking out a hand to turn the effort round the post and out for a corner. The rest of the half was fairly even with neither team taking their chances.

Second half was a different story and Newbridge dominated most of it. Newbridge went in front from an excellent through ball from Joe Ashton found Tom Tallis coming in at the back post and he finished well to give the home team the lead.

Newbridge second goal came from an error by the Camborne keeper, Newbridge got a free-kick about 15 yards inside their own half. Jordan Whaley put plenty of power behind the ball and with the keeper coming to catch it miss the ball completely and it went into the back of the net. After that what we could only believe the keeper was the only Camborne player on the pitch as on numerous occasions he tried to take on the Newbridge team running almost up to the halfway line with the ball.

It was from one of these runs by the keeper Newbridge got a third as Joe Ashton took the ball off him, ran into the box with two players covering on the line and the keeper chasing after him. The keeper was lucky to not get a card as he took down Joe from behind and the ref pointed to the spot. Joe dispatched the penalty well to give Newbridge a 3-0 lead and were looking comfortable to get the 3 points.

Newbridge made some changes with Jordan picking up a knock, after this Newbridge had a lapse in concentration. A long ball over the top with 2 or 3 players in an offside position was left by the Newbridge team waiting for a flag but another player ran through and chipped it over the on rushing Aaron Jones. Camborne the got another goal back as Newbridge defender Jonathan Griffiths failed to clear his lines and lost the ball, the Camborne player put it into the bottom corner to give Camborne a fighting chance of getting back in the game.

Newbridge rattled by these two quick goals were playing very sloppy and another Camborne player went through and Newbridge captain Kyle Jones bought him down just on the edge of the box. Aaron set his wall up on the right hand side of his goal and guarded the other side. The Camborne player took the free-kick put it over the wall and it look destined for the bottom corner, but Aaron got across the goal got down low to the ball and made an excellent save to keep the score at 3-2 to the home side.

From their Newbridge then finished it off, Newbridge had a corner at the other end. Joe crossed the ball in and James Tregay headed it in the goal. The ref was unsure whether the whole ball had crossed the line and needed a second opinion from the linesman (a Newbridge player doing Camborne a favour who is very fair) was level with the line said that the whole ball had crossed the line and the ref gave the goal. Final score 4-2.

Man of the Match- Nathan Oates, Had an excellent game at full back and stopped Camborne coming through on a several occasions.

Carharrack Res (2) 4 -v- 3 (1) Newlyn NA Res

A close game as the score line suggests. Newlyn started the brighter, and could have gone 1 up in the first few minutes, but the keeper saved a shot just outside his area to earn a yellow card, but Newlyn could not punish the home side from the resulting free kick. Moments later, a similar attacking position was created by Newlyn, but with the keeper to beat, a lunging "tackle" from behind by the last defender resulted in another free kick, and another yellow card. This time, the card really should have been red, no doubt, and it was disappointing that only a yellow was awarded. Still, Newlyn did not protest, and again failed to make the most of the free kick. However, it was the away side that broke the deadlock, good work down the right wing, a slightly fortuitous one-two, and neat finish for Sam Smith. The home team did look dangerous with 2 good forwards who are well capable at this level, and slowly they grew into the game. An equaliser eventually came, probably due to a bit of sloppy defending, but we won't go there!! The game now headed towards half time in an increasingly even manner, the home side edging in front from a poorly defended route one free kick header combination straight down the middle. So, to the second half, much the same, Newlyn looking slightly more dangerous in my opinion, but Carharrack may dispute that. Newlyn finally drew level, very poor keeper clearance handed it to the striker on a plate (maybe he felt guilty for the first half handball)!? But back came Carharrack, launching another attack through the middle, and tremendous division 4 defending (in other words, calamitous), resulted the a scuffed shot somehow finding its way through the keepers fingers. So, 3-2, Newlyn pressed for another equaliser, and duly received an opportunity via the penalty spot when the ref gave a very harsh penalty (in my opinion). After measuring out the 12 yards, and placing the ball in the small football-size hole (you could only see the top half of the ball!), I was delighted and somewhat surprised to see the goal scored. So now, 3-3, surely that was it. But no, some attacking play down the left for the home side forced a corner and a headed goal. Which turned out to be the wining goal. No real complaints from Newlyn. What might have been if the red card was awarded we will never know. Good luck to Carharrack in their remaining fixtures.

I think his name is Marky. They played us in the Junior Cup and the bloke is a complete Buffon. Even his players said afterwards when we beat them he is embrassing for the club. He has got a serious attitude issues. No place for it in local football.

He would be better worrying about what he puts in his mouth rather than what is coming out of it.

Well done to Pendeen on getting through to the next round. Sounds like he doesnt like getting beaten by teams below him. Nothing against Holemans they were a good bunch of lads.

Not that I want to get myself involved but starting to get and sound a bit ridiculous. First of all I have respect for marksy and what he has done at holmans he's a good bloke never seen him be anything more than passionate for the game and that's what you want down here passionate people. As for kyle (never occurred until now knowing his surname is marks that he is marksy son...duh) he's a cracking young player very skillful fast and would get into most if not all teams in the ht email trelawny league which is incredible for a 17 year old. If elbows were made in a game behind the refs back then kyle will probably know himself he shouldn't be doing that and I'm sure marksy will be having words with him himself on his own to cut that out of his game as we all know it doesn't need to be done...as for punching him back for it or "expecting to get one back" then that's where the game is going even further wrong than the elbow itself as that condones all the violence. So saying he should expect it back is wrong just the same as elbowing. As for marksy getting involved would anyone on here (whether your a father or not) just stand back and not do anything about it if you saw that happen to your son or even just member of your team. No you wouldn't you would get involved and stand up for your. Marksy will agree with the kyle not needing to elbow part and like I said he will deal with that in his own way but at the time when all that kicks off he's not going to make more of a scene by turning on his own lad he's gonna stick up for him especially if there's been a retaliation. As for abuse and mouthing off at the end marksy will have calmed down afterwards and knowing his passion it was all but of sour grapes and not liking to lose (who does like to lose)!! Had he not been attacked on here the way he did he may have responded with an apology and wished the victorious team good luck in the next round. Because he was attacked on here in that way he (and kyle) have decided to respond with banter (which is what I love about this forum) and try to move on with things. They both know what happened shouldn't have and like I said I'm sure he will deal with it in himself. I'd like to think the opposing team will do the same with whoever retaliated and abuses and continued it as well instead of condoning the retaliation. Now let's all leave this alone now move on...good luck in the next round to the winners (pendeen I think it was) and good luck to marksy and the holmans lot for the rest of their season...end of!

Not yet another school teacher on the forum (probably Grammer School!). Come to think of it though Willow Tree you do get around a bit, must be the long holidays and week-ends and evenings off!

I ain't a school teacher, just an ordinary person trying to add a bit of light hearted banter to the bitchfest that was ensuing.

Sorry Willow Tree, no offence intended, and I do agree that this thread needed a degree of levity, not to say the levelheadedness of feedtheshak's intervention. I suspect that the Moderators are having a day off or I'm sure some of this offensive personal abuse would disappear in a puff of technology. I really didn't intend to accuse you of being a teacher.

Wazza1999 what a shame it is to read such disgusting comments from yourself. Having played for Marksy in the past, along side his son and the rest of the Holmans players, I couldn't disagree more with your foul comments. You may have won the game but you cannot be proud of winning the game with the type of players you had on the pitch Saturday. It must be embarrassing to control such vile people but then again I'm sure you're all use to it considering majority of them were on the side line. (the loud mouth females) As for Mullion Raider I am pretty certain no one understands your comments due to the fact you cannot spell half of them but there we are. Truthbetold what an absolute muppet you are. Not even worth an argument with you because you're probably as thick as the rest of them.

LOVE ALL the banter to be honest, funny as hell!! How are you Dave? Seen millser lately?

No offence taken, although it did make me laugh!

Yes enjoying the sunshine! Sitting in a town square while waiting for my car to be fixed.

I did see the progress of this thread earlier and wondered about it.

However, from the language I can overhear all around me right at this moment, from people of all a ages - sadly this thread is quite tame. 😀

How sad society is now, it wasn't like this when I was at Grammar School!
