Foxhole 2 Vospers Oak Villa 3

Saturday 22nd September 2007

While the visitors always looked the tidier outfit, Foxhole deserved a point after a battling display undermined by more costly defensive errors. They went ahead on 13 minutes when Griffin collected Hill's mishit shot to fire past Johnson from eight yards and ought to have added a second soon after when Ames, seemingly miles offside, crossed for Griffin to force the keeper into a flying save, Ames himself ballooning the rebound over. However, Vospers were playing some neat stuff and it was no surprise when Jones, who had earlier blasted a half chance wide, burst through a static home defence to cleverly lob the equaliser on 32. Within seconds, Fairclough was caught in possession by Butcher, whose drive was well blocked by Adam Rowe.

Vospers made it 2-1 immediately after the break, when Butcher centred for a totally unmarked Hoblin to volley home at the far post, but then Hill scrambled in a fine low cross from Griffin on 54. As the play swung from end to end, the game became nicely competitive and referee McCaffery cautioned Griffin after an altercation with Scott, although Grose was unlucky to receive a booking after an innocent collision with Murphy. Warne and Sully traded opportunities to clinch the points before Yeo's close-range winner on 74, after the Foxes had failed to adequately defend a free-kick.
