falfootie
I suppose it depends on what passes as a 'good' budget. Town have what I would have thought was a decent budget but from some of the media comments that I've read the budget is 'very small'. If what Town are currently paying is a very small budget, I'd hate to think what some of the other clubs must be paying. I'm sure Harry Evans will be a decent acquisition for the Lillywhites & will be missed by Falmouth. I think Town, as last year, are fortunate that there even less able than them so will manage to escape the drop.
SuperCooper
We are delighted to have signed Harry, he is one of the hottest young talents in local football at the moment!!! The Town Man
Another big blow for Falmouth. However we have proved that if a youngster does come to us, he will get a run in the team and hence improve. Dan Richardson, Danny Green etc. I am sure that Wayne Hughes would love to hear from anyone else who cannot get first team football maybe at one of the bigger clubs like Harry and Dan Green who both came from Truro. Here's hoping.

Guest
It is actually quite simple. IF ALL CLUBS refused to pay, where would the players go. I raise my hat to those clubs who refuse to pay out ridiculous money to average players. It is about time clubs realised this fact and got rid of managers who think that success only came if they splashed out with every one elses cash. "Wise up clubs because if not there is only one way football will go and that is downhill'. Why should players from Plymouth play for just about every other club in Cornwall. Likewise why should players not play for their home town. Football needs to wake up and fast. What price loyalty
CTID
ECPL. Are you suggesting that players should only play at their home town clubs, what a load of "codswallop" that statement is. Most of the teams in question are quite within their rights to get the best players they can. Surely clubs would struggle to compete in national competitions if there was a cap on how far you live away from the club. Maybe we should take our hats off to the clubs who work hard behind the scenes to secure the monies required to entice the better players to their clubs.
Guest
Oh you silly man. You can't see what is in front of your eyes. Clubs are paying exorbitant monies for average players who have absolutely no loyalty whatsoever. If they don't pay the players move on to someone who does. For what. Clubs are struggling to hold on to valuable club members who work their socks off for their clubs. yet they are taken for a ride because some jumped up manager says he cant win anything without paying out not his cash but every one elses. Wise up and see what is happening in front of your eyes. I am also not saying that players should only play for their home town clubs but if they stopped chasing the money deal they would most probably enjoy their football more. Foot ball must look at itself and clubs must stay within its means if not clubs will fold.
MrEnglefield
Good signing for St Austell. I've seen Harry play a couple of times this season, considering his age he is a very good player. Although, like any team, he'll have to work hard to get in to the team as St Austell have a solid team who are challenging towards the top end of the league. Bruegel the Elder
I have my doubts, I suspect they'll do a Bodmin/Parkway and be too frit to climb the pyramid. They'll prefer to wallow in the pit of mediocracy that is the SWPL, and considering the financial disincentives of being based in the back of beyond, who can blame them? leedsunited
No cornish side would accept the promotion. MrEnglefield
If St Austell were to win the league I think they would be able to challenge in the league above. Like leedsunited said, it's whether they are willing to take the plunge. The cost involved must be quite a bit, a lot more than what the majority of us think anyway. teflon123
Bodmin and Parkway would have easily challenged for league honours in the league above but never took the step up and would bet St Austell would be in the same boat if they won it. Dont see the point in paying massive sums of money just to win £2000 at the end of the season.

People will say through the season they are willing to make take the plunge but it will not happen. Travel, costs etc prevent it from happening I wouldn't go so far to say that no Cornish club would accept promotion, but it's a hack of a decision. Is it really sustainable? Just the travelling alone would cost a fortune compared to their present bill! At present Cullompton is St Austell's longest trip - say 90 miles and if the Lilywhites were in the current Western League Premier, only one team would be closer! Approx mileages - Melksham Town 189 Slimbridge 172 Bitton 168 Longwell Green Sports 168 Cadbury Heath 167 Bradford Town 162 Winterbourne United 160 Brislington 156 Bristol Manor Farm 154 Hallen 154 Odd Down 153 Bishop Sutton 147 Gillingham Town 143 Shepton Mallet 138 Street 132 Sherborne Town 130 Bridport 116 Willand Rovers 92 Buckland Athletic 70 PS - I really must get a life! Dave Deacon
But, many clubs will I'm sure, be satisfied with finishing a season as league champions, without then taking promotion into a league that would place a further financial burden upon them. Then of course we're back to suggesting (and going over old ground), should a club who wins the league not be allowed to take the prize money if they aren't prepared to take the promotion? But, many clubs will I'm sure, be satisfied with finishing a season as league champions, without then taking promotion into a league that would place a further financial burden upon them. Good work Dave!If St.Austell finish high enough to get the chance of promotion I hope (I think!!)that they take it and then aim to push through that division into the Southern League. I doubt the travelling there would be much worse but the standard would be that much higher and something I believe St.Austell can genuinely aspire to.It would be a brave decision though. Money Man
I think personally if 1 club takes the plunge then others will follow, in a few years we could see St Austell, Bodmin, Parkway, Saltash , Ivybridge etc all in the western league and aspiring to go higher . The western league is piss poor and any top 8 side in the SWPL would have a decent chance of walking through the league and towards the Southern leagues. MrEnglefield
If St Austell do win the league this season, which they have a very good chance of doing, then I think they should go up. With the current players they've got plus more additions, they could easily compete in the league above, maybe challenge towards the top end of that league as well. The players they are bringing in you would've thought they are planning for bigger and better things, which you can only credit them for. It would be silly to stay in the same division, keep winning it and not have as much competition as maybe you would in a league or two higher. bushy12
Money money moneyVery true. But where is it coming from.?Are you suggesting someone with ginger hair? David Deacon, please. If you donuts used half a brain cell, you would see that St.Austell average nearly 180 spectators per home game. Say only 140 of them are paying spectators (taking out of the equation children and concessions) that's £700 per home game. There is also a refurbished and generally busy club house which has quite a tidy turn over! Adding on prize money through cup progression, events that are held in the club house (football, and non-football related), sponsorship gained from a very hard working and dedicated committee, sportsmans dinner post season, and the little things like raffles and Christmas draws. And there you have it! A fully financially self sufficient well run football club that deserves nothing but success! The sooner people started concentrating more of their attention on the clubs that they apparently support, who knows, maybe one day you could also start to become a successful football club like St.Austell is on track to becoming? Jealousy maybe!?!?

quiksilver
From what I have heard the committee only put in a relatively small amount to the playing budget (less than £500). The budget is then boosted by external sources/sponsors. If you can find those kind of sponsors and sources in this financial climate fair play

midlandlilywhite
Totally agree. The club has worked really hard to make progress from the bleak situation to the solid ambitious position it is today. A key aspect of this progress is the level of sponsorship the club has generated in the last six years, initially started by you James and others and now being carried on brilliantly by Lea Cooper. Its not just money that attracts the better players it is also the ambition of wanting to improve yourself and to play at a higher level. Money money money Very true. But where is it coming from.? Then Truro players, and are interested in their careers. Although, it baffles me that being interested in their careers involves knowing exactly how much money they get, and St.Austells entire incomings and outgoings? 4thly, I'm not sure what maths you want me to go away and add up again, and what figures I need to go over, because I haven't stated any figures other than gate money which is fairly basic maths. 5thly, I don't particularly want to go away and find out exactly what everyone gets paid up there, because quite frankly, I don't care!
