St Blazey v Ivybridge

Wednesday 7.30ko

Can St Blazey take all 3 points? Ivybridge arrive at Blaize Park unbeaten and top of the league. St Blazey have had a some excellent results and a couple poor performances this season. Bobby Oaten will be encouraged by Saturdays F.A Vase win against Barnstaple. On what will be an excellent pitch, with the rain weve had, this match will be fast paced and worth coming down to watch. St Blazey have a run of home games which could push them up the table before the next round of the F.A Vase at the start of November.

St Blazeys tea hut is now back open after the roof and guttering has been replaced. The bar will be open as always. :drink:

St Blazey 1v0 Ivybridge.

The pitch looked superb tonight and with the heavy rain leading up to kick off, the greasy surface made for a cracking game of football. Not much to seperate the two sides, both sides have decent efforts on goal especially in the first half. In the second half St Blazey gave Ivybridge less room to get decent crosses in the box and possed more of a threat themselves. After Ivybridges keeper made a cracking save from a downward header it looked like our best chance had gone but minutes later Ivybridge failed to close down Seb Broomfield in the box, and on the turn his shot deflected off an outstretched boot to hit the top corner off the net and put St Blazey 1 up. St Blazey held on and defended very well to seal a massive 3 points in their quest for a top 6 finish and qualification for next seasons F.A Cup. Who knows what else this group off players could achieve.

On to Saturday we will face Launceston at home. Another hard fixture yet we find ourselves only 3 points behind them with 6 games in hand!!

Att tonight 60/70. The stay aways are missing some good football. Support your local side.

Good result for Blazey!! Think Ivybridge will struggle unless Smith & Doel turn up most weeks. Losing Smallridge another blow and heard tonight that a Western League side are looking at there tall centre-back who has been very good for them this season and would be a major loss.

It was a good game. Ivybridge might have put a few away on another day but wasted some good chances, with Painter in the Blazey goal having another good day. Blazey made numerous chances too and could also have nicked a couple. In the end the goal was quite lucky, taking a massive deflection to bounce over the diving Ivy keeper.

15 points from 8 isn't a bad start. Apart from a desperately disappointing result against Stoke Gabriel we've had a good start. Considering we conceded 8 of our 10 goals against in two matches we've been pretty hard to break down for most sides. The difference is that instead of losing lots of matches by a single goal (I'm told 14 losses by 1 goal lat season) were winning those games by a goal. Small margins making all the difference.
