SuperCooper Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 AFC St Austell are delighted to have secured the services of striker Liam Eddy from Truro City. Liam is a proven goal scorer and was Truro's 2nd highest goalscorer last season. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam to AFC St Austell and extend our best wishes to him for the coming season. This hopefully will be the 1st of many high profile signings as we look to gain promotion. Lea Cooper Director of Football
Wellpassedit Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Fantastic signing for St Austell, Liam is capable of scoring a very large number of goals at this level, his movement and the positions he takes up make him a real handful for centre backs
leedsunited Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Rumour is £85 a game with potential for more on goal bonus etc. That information was from a player who has already been offered agood wedge himself by Town to join there revolution! Cant blame the boy eddy as he would struggle to get that elsewhere in cornwall. A big statement from st.austell in securing liams signature but remember they did same thing last season with the signing of tom smith etc. Liam will be a handful for most defenders each week. Maybe st.austell will be carrying the 'favourites' tag, as they did last pre season
leedsunited Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 That was not a dig either before anyone starts! Just a point that money doesnt always guarantee success cos i cant imagen it was the poltair pitch that made him sign! Credit to st.austell & lets hope more cornish teams can get abit closer to parkway next season
Henning Berg Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Refreshing that a club from below the exeter end of the league having the ambition to go up. St Austell, you have won an admirer for the coming season in me.

Mike Odgers Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 I see A.F.C St.Austell with their progress and ambition to become the next top club in the SWL/SWPL, following the domination of Bodmin-St.Blazey-Falmouth-Newquay since the 1980's
Father Ted Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Leedsunited talking about other clubs spending money again theres a suprise
midlandlilywhite Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 We will need to improve our defending if we are to be chasing the title next season. We gave away too many sloppy goals last season. No doubt this aspect will be improved.
Nemesis Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Good signing. Problem in Cornwall, is that it is a huge County in mileage from one end to the other, with very few quality players in a relatively small population. Any club who can generate a decent income through the gates, sponsorship or clubhouse, will have the advantage over most of the others when it comes to attracting the better players. Plymouth has a population of 250,000 but just 4 SWPL sides, Cornwall has double the people but 7 times as many clubs, which makes the likes of Plymouth Parkway a disappointment. They should be getting crowds bigger than Truro city and have better players based on the figures quoted. Not going down the Argyle excuse route, anyone who has tried to cross the Tamar by bus, car or train when they are home, knows that 50% of PAFC fans travel from the Duchy. Back to St austell, if they can move on a few older players who turn up for an envelope and attract players for the love of the game, they will become the top Cornish SWPL side for the next few years, before the wheel of fortune turns again, it always does.
leedsunited Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Some interesting & correct points above, obviously if st.austell want to win the league they have to get some better players in to achieve this, they may have a big budget, they might be joint favourites with parkway but its been proven before that lots of swag doesnt always buy the title.
L.Ricks9 Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Great signing for town, hopefully this could push Carlo Ricks back out way lol ?????
Follower Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Rumours have it the boy Eddy was spotted at Combination new boys Helston Athletics Reserves end of season trip to Butlins! Going back to where it all started and his true level
best Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 A good Centre Mid and a good Centre Back is Needed If they can sort theses 2 positions out, I would say a top 2 finish!
Outsider Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 What position does 44 year old Jason Cundy play?
razor61 Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 Great signing for town, hopefully this could push Carlo Ricks back out way lol Is that wishful thinking Lee? I would have thought that a twin strike force with Carl and Liam would be just what Lafs is wanting!
leedsunited Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 Nanks & bods? St.austell have certainly laid the gauntlet & flexed their financial muscle, very much like last pre season. Going forward they are going to be very strong
Tom Schmidt Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 Great signings like this, and 2-3 local boys back from Truro and Bodmin will be enough to entice a good 50+ more spectators to home games. It works financially as long as they play attractive football and get the results to take the club onto the next level. Good work Lafs and team.
Santini11 Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Great signing for town, hopefully this could push Carlo Ricks back out way lol No chance Leezo......looking forward to teaming up with Eds
Gripper Stebson Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Seems to be following a pattern from last seasons pre season . So much was promised yet such a disappointing season for "Town" That defeat to Goldolphin certainly set the scene for a poor season. Defence definitely needs improving, but I still rate Dan Lean as one of the best defenders in the league.
leedsunited Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Martin giles best defender at st.austell by a mile. Can pass, tackle, organise. Only my opinion. The rest are good but wouldnt say they were title winners. Again only my opinion. They never have problems going forward its conceding them.
unitedrhino Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Good Luck to Town, nice seeing teams with ambition. - Waiting to see what Pre Season midweek games they have lined up, should be some good games

However agree that Town must start the season well. Two home matches to start and, whilst tricky, they must return 6 points!!
