Dave Marks Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Lizard 1 Titans 2 With the Lizard still attempting to win the league & Titans playing for a good league finish, this was always going to be interesting. With Manager Casey Adams having to play due to a shortage of players Titans were ready to roll there sleeves up & as myself as stand in manager for the day we set out to defend as best we could to frustrate the home side. To be fair though from the first whistle we were up & at the Lizard but had little or no end product to give us a slight but possible fair lead. With the half ending 0-0 we were slightly getting up the noses of the home team. Second half & with stand in goalkeeper Mark Miller in the sticks our normal centre half/ striker, we continued to try & get in around the back of a decent defence, but the breaks weren't falling right for the final shot. With about 65 mins on the clock Lizard scored a fluke of a goal which hit one of our players & then hit our keeper who knew nothing of what happened. At that point you have to think its not your day but when you got players like Jack stocker theres always an opportunity. 70ish minutes free kick after a great move from Stu hull to get the free kick & bang Stocker smashed a quality free kick in the top left corner to level it up1-1. The crowd of about 40 plus 8 kids playing footy one bloke looking over the wall & 4 others having tea across the road weren't happy QUIET but not happy Within 5 minutes stu hull broke down the wing received a good pass from stocker & hull then played a great back flick for stocker to run on & smash the ball in to the bottom right corner, 1-2 & deadly silence as far out as the lighthouse. With the ref seemingly stopping the watch for everything we were in the 48th minute with no stoppages when our centre half gave away a cheap penalty , with the usual banter from the Titans lads of ( hope you score matey & your misses made my dinner last night ) our Stand in keeper dived & saved it. With another 3 minutes of ref can we go home its getting dark & the pitch only lights up when the lighthouse light comes round, he finally blew on 51 minutes, for a well deserved victory. Thanks to all at the Lizard for after & the banter it was fun , one bloody tough side on any day, but today we won.

Mangle Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 I played in a match that finished 7 - 7, back in the Amor Shield days, mid eighties I guess, when I was playing for Exiles (of Porthcurnow), ironically, against Mousehole (if my memory serves me correctly).
Pitty Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 St Agnes 1-2 Holman Sports Club So after the omnishambles last week of starting a game with 7 the boys from Blaythorne travelled up the A30 to St Agnes....well not quite to the picturesque seaside resort due to a 1st team game we had the marvellous opportunity to experience the 'chivvy roundabout' pitch. Resisting the urge for a nearby pre-game Starbucks caramel macchiato I proceeded to give some worldly words of wisdom to our 'no shows' last week and was greeted by some fantastic excuses bordering on science fiction! Pep talk over and with a squad of 13 we lined up with me alongside Scott 'papa smurf' Jones in the centre of defence. Being just a little bit shy of the size of Wembley......by about 15 metres!!! We knew it would be tight and with Alex playing a game of 'hack, maim, kill' in front of us the free kicks were starting to get a little bit tiresome!!! Luckily for us the Aggie keeper who must have thought it was 'pirate' day or else he was wearing the only bandana known to man to keep the sunshine out of his eyes decided to have a bit of a 'flap' at a Selley free kick which sailed over his head into the back of the net to take us 0-1 up. Obviously it couldn't last and after Jase had decided to do another 'upend' on the edge of the area Scott decided to play an offside trap rather then mark his player...cue rubbish offside trap dodgy marking and Aggie equaliser. Half Time 1-1 Pretty much the same 2nd half the home side had a break through with only me and then the flying potato sack in goal to beat but luckily my sizeable backside deflected the shot wide then Jase went on one of his marauding runs unleashed a shot and with a shout of "wide" hanging in the air from the home side captain Jack Sparrow left it and the ball promptly snuck in the near corner and then through the net over the back hedge, luckily from the reaction from captain jack the (excellent) ref Charlie Philpott gave the goal and we were 1-2 up.....at this point you would think we would shut up shop now and hold out for the win but luckily for the spectators 'foghorn' likes to show his tactical prowess akin to a world war 1 general during the Somme offensive and decided to drag me off and go to a back 3 to hold out for the win....to be fair to him (which is rare for me) we held out but I have a feeling against other sides we might not have been so lucky but 3 points very welcome and whilst not setting the trelawny premier alight like we would have liked this season at least we have consolidated mid table and not done a 'Penzance' Back to a midweek game this week and our top club men of the year (minnsy) let us know we have a nice little trip to Bickland to play Mawnan on Thursday night which will be good.
Scoffy Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Always entertaining pitty, good luck Thursday bud and to shifty and mawnan as well #fencesitting
stokefan1 Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Camborne Park 4-1 Newquay 3rds The score-line flattered us in the end, wouldnt say we were 3 goals better than a very talented newquay side who going forward had a lot of pace and trickery, and their number 9 ( ross i beleive he was called will not be in that newquay team for long). By first 20 minutes you could tell we had won the league on wednesday and couldn't string 3 passes together! we created couple chances from couple set-pieces but newquay keeper kept out couple good powerful headers, newquay were always threat on the counter attack a couple last ditch tackles stopped them getting shots away. About half an hour in newquay had corner we won the ball and centre back malcolm nicholls raced up-field beating 2 or 3 men before holding off the final newquay defender before beating the keeper 1-0, just before half-time newquay had a couple of long range efforts one from their number 9 from all of 35 yards going towards top corner, but brilliantly tipped over by park's keeper Jason Brooker, applauded by all on side-line from both teams. Half-Time 1-0, Message at half-time was we couldn't play as bad as did first half but we still lead. Take charge of midfield and we,ll create chances by keeping the ball. But 2 minutes into second half their number 9 cut inside 2 men before curling effort from 20 yards into far top corner 1-1 some goal!!!, but their equaliser was short lived couple changes and when on fire strikers grasso and caterall linked up caterall fired home 2-1 back in front. We went and put an extra man in midfield and left 1 man up front, and we started taking charge of the game pressuring newquay with lots of good solid tackles and getting up in their faces, Then we wrapped game up in my opinion on 70 minutes top goal scorer marcus grasso was found by caterall and grasso made no mistake to make it 3-1, couple more changes giving whole squad a run out and late on got a 4th goal Grasso tooken down from behind in the box and reece prout found the bottom corner from the spot, 4-1 Good win against a very good side, lot potential in their team Great day for the club getting presented with the league trophy and medals, and still unbeaten in the league 3 games left to keep that record intact, big task but we,ll do all we can to make it happen. Cup semi-final next sunday against marazion should be cracker.
YoungPercy Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Carharrack 1 - 7 St Buryan As Richard has said St Buryan dominated this game, head and shoulders the better side, and we were lucky to get 1. Nobody knew why the penalty was given, But Kevin Smith dispatched the penalty with ease into the bottom right hand corner. A good side at St Buryan not far off challenging for the league. Good bit of banter and a laugh during the game. Just a shame we didn't get any kind of result. 2 games to go then we can regroup and improve for next season
