cornishteddyboy Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Penzance 1-1 Porthleven Penzance earned a point in their fight to avoid receiving the division’s wooden spoon. For a local derby this promised much, and even though there were a few missed chances it petered out with both sides seeming unable to string a decent set of passes together. Penzance keeper Andrew Curnow made some good blocking saves but was left exposed at the back allowing Porthleven to score their goal. During the first five minutes Penzance press the Port goal but earn nothing before The Fishermen get into the game and have a decent 20 minute spell. Port break into the box, shoot but Curnow stretches out to block the shot. Penzance, when they break, get caught out by the off-side trap several times, much to the forward’s frustration. On 28mins Port get their noses in front. A through ball splits the defence and sees a one-on-one. The ball is fired in from close range allowing Curnow to drop and parry the shot but the ball is knocked in from 10yds by a Port player backing up. The lead lasts 5mins before Lewis Caspell equalises. Penzance work the ball right to left across the front of the box, from out wide the ball is squared back for Caspell to fire in low from 15yds out. Penzance now have a decent 10mins as they try to get in front. Caspell runs into the area, is tripped but manages to stumble a few paces before going down. The ref then proceeds to book him for faking. If he had gone down immediately he would have got the spot kick! Penzance break right, square the ball, and square again but blast over the bar from a couple of yards. Jamie Payne gets the ball out left, roughly 35yds out. He tries a curler which beats the outstretched arm of the young keeper but it bounces back off the top of the far post. HT The second half hardly needs a mention, really bitty football. Too much whistle and broken play. Port get a break right, shoot allowing Curnow to drop and tip the ball onto and round the post for a corner. Penzance have a good shout for a penalty waved away. Ref put whistle to his lips but stopped as Port player comes off worse. A couple of minutes are left when the Port keeper runs out, grabs the ball outside his area but it is not given as handball as he also takes out the striker.
