stokefan1 Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Camborne park vs marazion reserves at marazion wow what a game!!! Park needed 1 point to secure the league title and marazion were well up for not letting it happening on their own patch and also knew if won here had slight chance of still winning the title and getting upper-hand before next weeks league cup semi-final. This game had everything, misses, great saves, red card!!!, some great goals, and a very good crowd! Very vocal on both sides. Park started quickly and top scorer marcus grasso fired home a goal inside first 10 minutes to put park 1-0 up, then the huge moment happened a foul was given away out near touch-line our defender kicked ball away yellow card given ( totally fair) then as our player walked back to join his players to defend it referee said he heard a comment ( which no-one else from either team said they heard) pulled another yellow and then the red! AWFUL DECISION..... but rest game was very fair but the one big decision he made got it totally wrong. Most teams could of thrown towel in but we knew what was on the line, and with pete norfolk excelling in middle of defence next to skipper ben pearson our defence took everything marazion had to offer then on break 3 passes up-field released mike catterall who beat two men and delivered a great cross for grasso who found top corner and made it 2-0 half-time. Everyone needed half-time break, but 2 minutes after marazion winger jason o,sullivan cut inside and fired shot through lots of bodies leaving our keeper unsighted until too late and was in corner of net, marazion next 35 minutes had all of ball but our defending from front to back was incredible our keeper made couple great stops from long range efforts and couple last-ditch tackles, last minute we broke clear marazion keeper saved well from caterall and whistle blew we won the league, overall whole season think we,ve deserved it credit marazion chucked everything at us and be cracking semi-final next sunday too i am sure

Mangle Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 The Thriller in Manilla (well, St. Clare - up behind the fire station). Whilst Park and The Blues were fighting over the league title at Marazion, sharing a meagre 3 goals between them, Newlyn NA Reserves welcomed Frogpool Reserves to fight over mid-table obscurity, sharing 11 goals and beating the hell out of each other (fairly) in the process! The first obstacle that the visitors had to face was the traffic jam over near Sainsbury's, where an old chap had apparently tried to dive over the top of the "new" roundabout as opposed to around it. Although air-lifted to hospital, I understand his injuries are not life threatening. Anyway, Newlyn took advantage of this by extending our warm-up of blasting the ball at the goalkeeper for about 20 minutes longer than usual. When the game got underway, it initially gave no indications that the goals would be flying in. Rather cagey, Frogpool looked tidy and quick up front. There were a couple of half-chances that alerted Newlyn to a long game ahead. However, possibly against the run of play, it was Newlyn who took the lead. A smart finish from inside the box. Back came Frogpool, always looking sharp, and duly equalising a few minutes later. Rolling subs were started by both teams, possibly opening the game up a little more, and Newlyn broke to squeeze in their second to go ahead once more. Back came Frogpool drawing level with a peach of goal (the bloke had 69 on his back - I mean, c'mon), a 25 yarder that found the top corner. It looked like the half-time whistle would then blow, but not before Newlyn immediately hit back with our own 25 yarder, but it did take an almighty deflection! So, 3-2 at half-time to Newlyn. Much the same in the second half, although Newlyn looked a little more out-of-shape, and Frogpool were on it. The visitors started to press higher up the field, and managed to draw level and then hit the front (both goals again excellent efforts by Monsieur Soixante Neuf). Could Newlyn drag themselves back into it. It did not look like it. However, somehow, we did, managing to put some pressure on the visitors and whacking in the fourth. Still 15 minutes left, and anybody's game, but suddenly, it was Newlyn that carried the threat. Chances were created (maybe the Frogpool defenders were getting tired) and eventually, Newlyn took the lead. Could they hang on.....hold on, they've scored another......now its a one-on-one....missed chance, but surely it's all over. 6 - 4 and a couple of minutes left. Back come Frogpool, forcing a great save by the Newlyn keeper, and scoring their fifth of the night from the corner. But there was no time left, and Newlyn nervously held on for the win. Thanks must go to the referee, who was top notch throughout, and Frogpool, who made the long mid-week journey, played in very good spirits, and deserved a point out of that game (but we needed it more than you anyway).
bluenose Posted May 1, 2014 Report Posted May 1, 2014 Congrats Scott and the rest of the Park lads.....couldn't make the game on Wednesday and am away for the semi so hopefully the lads can end the season on a high.....looking forward to playing you again next season
RAPPO Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Congratulations Scott!! Remember saying end of last season that the 4 quality teams that went up from div 5 would all be at the top of 4 this season, yourselves, Marazion, Helston and Gwinear were all excellent teams and I see all 4 are in the top 6 with you lot going all the way, well done mate. Apart from 4 games I've not been involved in football this season but from what I can gather and seen I think the same will happen with Mabe and Falmouth Town, two excellent young teams if they stay together. Reckon you or Marazion for div 3 winners next season as well Scott!! :-)
erby ruin Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Cheers rappo and hope we do same next year and yeah I think Falmouth and Mabe will also be doing the same in forthcoming seasons Hope all ok with you bud
RAPPO Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Congratulations Pete. Heard you've had a great season mate. Yeah fine apart from a knackered knee or two bud!! Missed seeing everyone this season but enjoyed watching a lot of south west league and pro games weekends. Taking the boys Torquay tomorrow to see the Wycombe game and maybe both teams relegated out of the league!!? Hopefully catch you somewhere next season? Well done mate. :-)

Reckon you or Marazion for div 3 winners next season as well Scott!! :-) we,ll see what happens, we are looking no further forward than saturdays league game against newquay 3rds a very strong side, with lot of talented youngsters in their own right, our manager won't let us relax, we have set high standards this year and will continue to attempt to do so! Need keep playing well and luckily everyones still hungry as the whole squad is battling for a semi-final starting places and want to keep this unbeaten run going aslong as possible! I for one never thought couple seasons ago i would say it, but i definitely want marazion to go up along with ourselves and continue a big rivalry, shame we meet in semi-finals on sunday 11th would of been a great final, but i am sure we will both make it another great game! Falmouth and mabe are very strong sides but think they would agree especially mabe division 5 wasn't like it was last year this year! I remember all top 8 all being real tough games, you had ourselves, marazion, gwinear, helston, newquay, st erme, ludgvan, mabe, stithians too was a great league to be a part of and was awesome to go up and win a cup. We will focus on next year after our last game at lizard, and try and keep squad together and try even harder to improve it and the club as a whole on and off the field Hope sort few injuries out, could get you half game for us pre season if need game-time take care Rappo
