Was certainly some game! after being 2-0 up and seeing tms come back to 2-2 to take it to extra time. ..then to go 3-2 down with 3 mins remaining. ..then to score what appeared to be an equaliser with last kick off game only for it to be ruled out for an off side flag which from all concerned seemed to be the wrong decision was gutting. Was proud of the way my lads played against a team two divisions higher. Good luck to tms in the final

Arthur Pearce semi final.

Threemilestone reserves 3, Helston 3rds 2. aet.

Att approx 60.

Threemilestone made it through to their 1st final since the formation of the Trelawney league.

Helston were the much better side in the 1st half, and scored after a mistake in the stones back line was punished by the number 9(twiggy). Early in the 2nd half the same man again pounced on a tms mistake to make it 2-0 with a cool finish. With half an hour to go Tms manager made some subs to try to get back in the game and this proved to be the right decision. Sub Joss Hawkins made an immediate contribution poking the ball back from the deadball line to Pope, who scored with a low shot at the near post. Sub Liam Patterson then outpaced the Helston right back and curled a lovely shot over the onrushing keeper to take the tie into extra time. With 5 minutes of the extra time remaining a cross was driven low across the box from the right for James Bright to tap in at the back post and put threemilestone in front. Then with the last kick of the game Helston had the ball in the back of the stones net, but unknown to them the lino on the far side had his flag up and the goal was ruled out.

Well done to Matt and the boys.

Very entertaining game last night, both sides got it down and played football, helston more than matching their opponents from a higher league.

Helston were much the better side for 60mins + and really should have wrapped it up. Credit to TMS who came back and really put helston under pressure. Both goals taken well, the second was a tidy finish that rolled past the keeper in the far corner-it didn't leave the ground to go over the keeper.

Extra time came and it was anyone's, tempers started to flair slightly and it was destined to go to pens (which there was some confusion about!).

With minutes left TMS scored after a low cross found the striker who poked it home. From my view, which in fairness wasn't a good one as I was at the other end, the forward looked offside but the goal stood.

Helston proceeded to put TMS under a lot of pressure and seemed to grab a goal with the last kick. However, the linesman had his flag up and the goal was disallowed. Not sure what for as I was stood opposite true Lino and through all the phases of play I did not see one offside. When the goal was disallowed the lino called the ref over, but the ref refused to speak to him-it would have been interested to hear what he would have said. Perhaps something along the lines of "I thought there was an offside so raised my flag, but realised I was mistaken and by that time I couldn't put my flag down, so overrule me and give the goal." Maybe not.

Very entertaining game and well done to bothe sides. Helston thirds are too good for their league on that performance.

Just on an aside, TMS' 15 - Pope I believe, really needs to learn some respect toward officials. He seemed to think he was above everybody there, and although I understand he is a talented player, not much went his way last night and he really needs to keep his toys in the pram. That being said, he took his goal well. Also the TMS number 17 showed a complete lack of respect and immaturity which I thought really let the club down. When helston scored their 'equaliser' in extra time they celebrated with class as a team. When it was disallowed this TMS player made a point to go up to several helston players and celebrate wildly in their faces, worse than keown versus van nistleroy.

Best of luck to TMS in the final. Heads up helston you played extremely well and this will be a massive learning curve for you-making you want it more next time round.

Wendronofficial it's seems like you have a problem with TMS, a lot of negativity towards them from your part!! Seems like it was a great game, and wish them all the best in the final!!

Posted

Wendron official. I think you're being very harsh pal, Brightys winner was not even close to being offside and the equaliser which was ruled out, was offside. Harry is a very passionaite player and would never think of himself as above anyone else on the football pitch, it was just a very frustrating game to play in as a threemilestone player, as we know we are far far better than what we showed last night. Thought Heston were good a lot better going forward then they were at the back, number 12 always looked dangerous and 'twiggy' was a handful!! Good luck to Heston in their remaining games.

Sorry lads, wasn't meant to sound negative towards tms. Just my thoughts as a spectator on the night.

#coys, like I said, In fairness I was at the other end, so obviously wasn't in prime position for the tms winner.

I was opposite the disallowed Helston goal and was baffled as to why the offside was given - I was well up for a penno shoutout!

Just thought that Harry is it? Obviously a good player, think he manages the first team, was a bit of am Unnecessary whinger! We are all passionate about the game!

Both clubs are obviously moving in the right direction and fair play to them. Like is said, best of luck to tms in the final and Helston too. Sorry if it read as being negative!

Apparently the linesman flagged very early and wasn't seen until the next phase, and treve sims, who I'd say is as honest as they come, was also dead in line and said it was 100% offside, I like

You had no idea why he'd given offside until I spoke to treve. Although Heston did have a lot of the ball and put us under a lot of pressure our keeper didn't really make a save that I can remember and to be fair other than the outstanding save the Heston keeper made he also didn't have a lot to do, I think 2-2 would had been fair

This was a very good game to watch as a neutral last night. Helston took the lead through 2 decent finishes from Mark "twiggy" Thomas and then TMS started putting more pressure on the Helston goal. There seemed slight confusion at the end to whether or not the game went to extra time or penalties which was amusing to watch from the sidelines!!!

For the goal at the end of extra time the Lino had his flag up for a while before the ball went in. The Lino also signaled the ref over to discuss what happened but the ref blew the final whistle. Think TMS just shaded it overall but I was dissapointed not to see a tense penalty shoutout!!

Posted

#coys fair enough. I was stood opposite the Lino and his flag did go up early, I did not spot an offside in any of the build up or previous phases leading to the goal, would have been interesting to know what the Lino would have told the ref. but that's by the by now. Good side you've got. Decent footballer in will Harvey in middle of the park.

Pez8. Were you the one who had the reem haircut and Joey Essex jacket standing on the sideline?

Posted

That's me pal! Enjoyed the atmosphere although the half time beer could have been better! Good to see you scoring goals again Wendron Official

No, no. Not twiggy he was too busy scoring goals to notice the fine hair cut of pez8 standing on the sidelines last night. Just a local football fan, occasionally grace the green stuff with my presence.

My affiliation with Wendron however is now less.

Best of luck in the final boys.

I also noticed a certain Matt 'Macca' McIlroy sitting with the TMS boys whilst wearing a Wendron jacket. Is this a sign?

After to speaking to the lino after the game I asked him who was off side...after originally saying he could not remember he told me who it was. .the lad in question was not near the ball and certainly did not touch the ball. The tms winner may or may not off been offside. But listen...whatever your opinion of the decisions its gone. I was a great game to be involved in.. with both sides looking to play football. Obviously gutted by the result. .but pleased with the performance commitment and work rate my team showed

Posted

Why do TMS have so many problems with paperwork/rules... Surely someone at the club must be aware of all these? Gutting for TMS nether the less.... Another Helston team go through due to illegal players. Rules are rules I guess.

The fans the other night were passionate I wouldn't say they were gobshite fans but everyone is entitled to there opinion. A member of the reserve squad recently received some horrible news that he could never play contact sport again due to an eye condition. The win was for him and this was made clear before the game as he was a key member of the side and is only 23. The player in question was then going to be allowed to take the kick off to be part of the final before being subbed as a gesture. This may partly explain the scenes as well as being 2-0 down in the tie and coming back to make a cup final.

Unfortunately this wont happen due a breaching of the rules regarding first team players and the club has to accept this.

Too many times this season has this happened whether it be cup games where the winning team has been eliminated or league fixtures where points are deducted. Clearly it shows this rule hasn't worked. At some clubs it has caused divides between 1st and 2nd teams because people don't to step up and help a 1st team out because if they do this (and with the fixture listing and backlog it is always going to be needed) they risk becoming at '1st teamer' and then being 1 of the 2 players the 2nd team can use. In this event for tms are teamsheets not written out before a game? Do they not get looked at by the officials and the opposing team? And surely there would have been some representation from the league who could have also looked at the sheets and all parties agreed to the players playing or informed any team who has intelligible players of that before the game? Did the junior cup match between Helston and lizard not shine some light on how poorly monitored that was and how new measures needed to be looked at from that point to prevent that happening again.

Posted

Agree the rule needs looking at. Especially now at the end of the season with so many evening games and 2nd team players being asked to help out a team in a higher division. I suggest one way of maybe tweaking it as it's appearing to be a big problem now in the final months of the season is if a player has played more then 10 games for the lower division side they can move up and back down freely.

Posted

Correct me if I am wrong. ..but I think the rule they breeched was that the players involved had not played the five qualifying games needed to play in the semi final rather than it being two many first team players. This rule has been in place for years.

Posted

Nope, it's because two players stepped up to help the first team, plus 2 first teamers playing = 4 players.

This would have probably happened in league games as well so do points get removed for that?

It's a rule that needs looking at as it doesn't encourage clubs to be clubs anymore.

It's down to the club to check, it's as easy as making a phone call before the game, especially for a semi final. I agree that the whole rule disrupts a club and needs looking at - the whole senior/junior/2 players rule needs looking at throughout Cornish football.

Terrible news about the young lad, I wish him all the best and hope he stays involved on football or sport. It's so accessible these days, so best of luck.

The cup rules state that teams in semi finals and finals should send a list of players they intend to use in these games for verification 5 days before the game to the registration secretary along with kit colours..

If the secretaries done their job properly, they would know who is eligible to play in certain games etc... and they wouldn't break the rules, that mainly is having a good relationship and communication between the clubs managers and secretary.

Everyone moans about the rules, stick to them and you will have no problem, i understand it's tough with so many midweek games that 2nds or 3rds step up to help out and if play 2 games in 35 days their classed as higher division players!! But most these clubs have quite few players signed on and it seems it's same teams making these (MISTAKES.....) every season, either their just unlucky but time after time the same teams, playing too many 1st teamers or 2 many senior players or unregistered players isn't a coincidence in my opinion.

Whatever rules are put in place for next season we will be posting about same kind things on here this time next year as teams would of tried breaking rules again, if they wasn't found out teams would probably keep doing it.

End day in this situation Helston are in a final, ain't best way to do it but end of day a place in a final is a final and chance of winning some silverware, best of luck to them :)

Helston have had some luck with such rules this season, but I watched the game last week and it could have gone either way so I'm sure Helston will give it a good go in the final!! Very sad to hear about the TMS lad who's retiring! TMS fans were nice and vocal last week, mostly good natured, not sure who the lad was who walked past some of the Helston supporters bragging the stones go marching on but I hope he feels a little silly now. These rules are stupid but there obviously being followed by most teams so clubs can only blame themselves!! Check and double check to make sure these things don't happen. Must b absolutely gutting.

Correct Reno and stoke fan, rules are the rules and like them or not these are the things that need to be doudle checked before the team takes the field. They could of then left the two first team players out. The subs that came on did a great job and had they started the result may well of still gone in favour of the stones. In my time we had to send a squad list to George Osborne (mining league sec) a week before the game and he would then give me a call if any player was inelegible.

I feel for the sixteen players that could of had a great day out and a chance for some silverware.

Best of luck to Helston 3's and West Cornwall in the final.

I agree with the sentiments expressed by Ron Manager above, the club is obviously disappointed. Best wishes too Helston and West Cornwall in the Final!
