Morwenstow 0-5 Plymouth Parkway

Glad to have won that. Parkway didn't give the ref the names of their sins until just before kick off. Shaun Edge decided to enforce the rule that they should have been in 15 minutes before kick off but chose to say nothing until half time when a sub was about to be used even after agreeing the team sheet was fine albeit late. I understand rules are there for a reason, however the Morwenstow manager backed this and didn't agree to let the 4 guys who travelled 3 hours have any football. It was already 5-0 at this point so it's not as if it was a close game.

Parkway finished with 9 men due to injuries, 1 being carried from the first half and Morwenstow still couldn't score. Makes me happy due to the sporting behaviour of the club.

Don't normally post on my own games however I felt this should be brought up. It's a hobby at this level. Denying guys a game especially with the distance travelled is a joke.

Outstanding.. The only way to describe Holsworthy res today! 3-3 2mns to go and Holsworthy pushed for the winner ; 3 point blank saves from the blazy keeper kept Holsworthy from hitting the winner they broke and themselves hit the winner last kick of the game Blazey 4 3 holsworthy

Yeah holsworthy can certainly take heart from there performance positive for st blazey. 3pts 1 home defeat all season certainly a step forward from last year when they were other end of the table.good luck to holsworthy for next year hope you can celebrates wins and draws rather than narrow defeats

That does make me laugh Jasa, because last season whilst iwas manager osf Saltash, Morwenstow did exactly the same and i allowed them to ply there subs and we were 3-0 up. the referee said it was upto me and i plied common sensefor the very reasons you have just given.Shame on you morwenstow

I remember that stew and yes it is common sense mate . I am surprised by this as morwenstow are one of the most nicest clubs and have good standards . At least it didn't effect the result but do feel sorry for 3 of the guys ( the 4th wouldn't of got on lol)

From my understanding from the morwenstow v parkway game that the SUBS were not named before kick off and parkway didnt write their team on an official form. So on this occasion the referee was right to enforce the rule which is a league rule and in the laws of the game as well. If teams dont bother telling the referee their subs why should the referee chase them. Now the club should learn but the hard way. If the referee doesnt do his paper work ie not handing in the match report or bookings he will be suspended.after all it is a senior league.

while we are talking about refs would like to add thought the young lad who was in charge of the here tavi game was very good yesterday for a young man was in total control and done a better job than more experienced refs who have done this fixture in the past not sure of his name but very good

Rules are rules if u break them you should expect whats comming!!! Why should teams who break them to get away with it. If mowenstow can get a team sheet in why couldnt the away team. Its just lack of admin. Yes it is common sense but common sense to do the teamsheet. I also as a nuetral on here i love the way people slate referees on here why dont they referee i stead of moaning about the standard. Just remember no referee no game.

But it's ok for the ref to turn up at 2-15pm 15mins before kick off. Nothing gets said about that!

Isn't it no wonder Mr Edge has never ref a cup final cos he doesn't deserve it....

Posted

Al capone mr edge was there at 150pm as i was there watching and also mr edge was due to officate the league cup final but he decided to turn it down due to that torpoint was in the cup final.

I've played in a number of games where Shaun edge has done something ridiculous making the game all about him! Worse ref in the league by a country mile I'm surprised the league still put up with him I know for a fact they've had several complaints about him the guy has absolutely no common sense and loves the controversy. What type of person enforces a rules at this level at half time when the team is 5-0 up the lads travel 3 hours just to play football which is all we look forward to after a long week at work. Shame on the morwenstow manager for agreeing this as well.

We have got some great Referee's at the moment and i think we need to concentrate of giving them the time of day instead of running down Ref's who have an indifferent game.

You never hear a Ref complain about the poor showing of a team to a Manager

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Talking about refs, had our 1st experience with the lynx effect Saturday, and have to say was really impressed.he controlled the game well, was always talking and explaining his decisions,so hopefully the same again tomorrow night! !

I can accept a ref having an indifferent game but when you constantly have the same experience with an individual (mr edge) then you can't help but criticise, So unitedrhino I agree we have some great refs in the league and I'm not running them all down just giving my opinion about an individual and I'm intiteled to do so cause I'm the one paying for his services.

why would we hear about a ref complaining about a team they are there to to a job and get paid for it and like we've both said they do a great job apart from this one idiot who seems to make outrageous decisions and feel the need to make controversy where ever he referees.

Posted

Well frankie, you paid for his services and that`s what you got, he was absolutely correct in his application of the Law regarding substitutes, if you do not want referee`s to apply the law`s correctly then inform the League/CCFA that you will supply your own official who will do as you ask. In fact the referee is not on his own on this issue it is something I have done in the past.

Seems to be a vendetta against Mr Edge. People should grow up and get on with it. I have criticised many officials for strange decisions but the referee only sees an incident once and everyone has an opinion on that incident. I have watched Mr Edge over the years and yes at times he was to strict with the letter of the law but he has improved dramatically and is now a competent referee.

Final thought on this. I've just found out that a memo has been sent to referees to explain that common sense should occur on this.

It was also mentioned, as Mr Edge arrived with another ref that was doing a match nearby, that he didn't arrive until 2:10. I think you're telling porkies Soccer fan saying you saw him at 1:50. This was also mentioned to have been later than he should have arrived, rules are rules after all. I didn't see him warm up and he strolled onto the pitch 5 minutes before kick off. No pre match inspection took place either.

I'm glad the issue has been recognised as a lack of common sense from the relevant powers above. Shouldn't have got to the stage where that was required but hopefully if a team have this issue again the same thing won't happen.

Jasa, not awkward at all, as an assessor as well as an experienced referee i know he applied the LOAF correctly and nowhere in LOAF does it state that perhaps you should use common sense in any of the 17 Laws.

Posted

Mr Manning, you comment on every refereeing situation without being there. On this occasion, as has already been noted, he should have given the benefit of the doubt.

You therefore do not know that he applied LOAF correctly as you were not there to assess this in person yourself. You are going on a book of laws without physically seeing how they were applied. This is not knocking his performance in any way, it's saying common sense should applied.

There's no need to be so defensive.

Posted

Jasa, I am not being defensive, a point of Law was under debate all I have done (if you care to read my posts) is to state that under LOAF the referee was correct in how he applied those Laws. I do not know how you can argue about that and I do not even have to be at the game to know he was correct.

Credit where it's due, Shaun Edge did our SWPL game against Helston yesterday on a rapidly deteriorating playing surface and reffed the game very well....Not a booking in sight and no controversial decisions.

LOAF is a guide for all involved in football. In my opinion it should not be followed strictly but as a tool to settle disputes and ensure the game runs smoothly and safely as possible. Common sense should prevail if the circumstances allows it. After all football is a game and the overriding objective is enjoyment/entertainment.

Although Mr. Edge was correct in law and has done nothing wrong, in the circumstances common sense should have prevailed. These types of decisions should never go against the ref regarding their standard of officiating because to a certain extent he/she is just doing their job.

just my opinion...
