First league defeat in approx 2 seasons today. Sticker deserved their victory with both teams playing some nice stuff. Some baffling refereeing decisions but full credit to Sticker.

Grampound 0-0 Polperro

Grampound dominated the first half without really extending the Polperro keeper and were frustrated to turn round level at the break. The second half was more even but Grampound were indebted to goalkeeper Dan Riley for a couple of good saves when Polperro looked as if they might pinch all the points on a couple of occasions. In the end, a point each was about right on the performances but Grampound will have been a little more disappointed than the visitors to not take their recent prolific form into this game.

Good luck to Polperro for the rest of the season - in the main the game was played in an excellent spirit.

JJ JONES DUCHY LEAGUE

Biscovey moved off the bottom of the Premier Division for the first time in months after defeating Lamerton 2-0. Biscovey had the wind in the first half and played good football. Alex Woodcock scored in the 10th and 30th minutes to put them in control. Lamerton had a good chance just before the break but missed the goal. Lamerton pushed on in the second half with the advantage of the elements, but Biscovey defended well. In the last minute Biscovey conceded a penalty, but their keeper made a smart save to keep his clean sheet.

St.Newlyn East fell to a 4-5 home defeat to Pelynt. Mickey Thompson and Liam Dent scored a brace apiece for the home side in a game that concluded with home manager Shaun Pritchard retiring from the game.

St.Columb Major scratched together a side for a visit to St.Cleer after early morning withdrawals so probably surprised themselves by coming away with a 3-0 win.

Altarnun took a major step to the Division One title with a 2-1 win at North Petherwin against one of their chief rivals. Petherwin conceded two soft first half goals to Wayne Francome and Sam Smith. Joe Reeve also scored for the host’s in the first half, but in windy conditions they couldn’t break their rivals down in the second half.

St.Dominick stay in the hunt after beating Calstock 6-0 and only some fine goalkeeping kept the score down. After missing early chances it took until a 25th minute penalty from Karl Whitehead to put Saints ahead. Frazer Ferris drove in from the edge of the box five minutes before half time for the second and two minutes after the restart Connor Pritchard made it three. Fran Dingle increased the lead and on the hour. Calstock put through their own net, and Whitehead scored the sixth in the 70th minute.

Edgcumbe put up a spirited performance against a promotion chasing Padstow. A goalless first half where chances were limited to a couple of half chances which both fell to Sean Blows but he was denied on both occasions by the keeper. Padstow were not at their best in the first half but came out a different side in the second half and deservedly went ahead when Will Daley had a simple tap in from a knock down by Johnny Murt. They went further ahead after Tom Hull was brought down in the box and although Edgcumbe disputed the award of the penalty Darren Roose stepped up and coolly put the ball beyond the diving keeper. The goal of the game came from Kyle Tippett who latched onto a through ball and his delightful chip from 20 yards was too good for the advancing keeper. Padstow created further opportunities to increase the lead but failed add to the total. The home side worked hard throughout and looked a far better side than their league position suggests. The game was handle superbly by referee Steve Nute.

Grampound moved their game with Polperro to St.Mawes to help catch up their fixture backlog. A goalless draw ensued, which didn’t reach great heights. Grampound were slightly the better side in the first half with Polperro reversing those roles after the break. Grampound were indebted to goalkeeper Dan Riley making two fine saves to preserve their point.

Richard Burton scored the only goal of the game as St.Mawgan beat Looe Town 1-0.

Sticker inflicted a first defeat of the season in Division Two on St.Minver to dent the visitor’s title hopes. On a drying pitch perfect for football both teams looked to entertain with some excellent passing play. There was little to choose between the sides with Sticker pressing hard into the wind but the visitors always dangerous on the break. St.Minver were unlucky when a shot bounced off the crossbar and home goalkeeper Richard Osborne had to be alert when defender James Edens back headed. With the wind after the break the home side continued to push forward with Eddie George working tirelessly up front. Chances were few and far between and it took an Andrew Butler free kick which went in off a post to settle the game with the only goal.

Leaders Foxhole took full advantage with a 4-0 defeat of Gerrans & St.Mawes United. Shane Kibell gave them a 5th minute lead. The game flowed to and fro in a blustery cross wind with Jamie Robinson doubling the lead five minutes from half time. A Tom Hicks free kick on the hour held up in the wind deceiving the keeper for the third with Kibell scoring his second ten minutes from time.

LC Phoenix close in on a promotion place after beating Gunnislake 3-0. Early pressure forced an own goal with further goals coming from Nathan Cox, Joe Davis.

St.Breward picked up their first win of the season as they won their derby match at Boscastle 3-2. Luke Richards scored a brace with Dominic Hawkey completing the visitor’s tally. Harley Westlake and Sam Haddy replied for Boscastle.

Premier Sixes and Holywell/Cubert Athletic shared four goals. Holywell took the lead with a scrambled goal from James Nettleton. Neil Currah equalised with a remarkable effort after weaving through numerous defenders. Holywell had the wind in the second half but failed to take advantage until the 80th minute when a long distance shot deceived the home keeper. Steve Capeling volleyed a second equaliser for Sixes three minutes from time.

In Division Three, St Stephen reserves playing against a strong wind took the lead after 7 minutes through Ross Dunn but that lead only lasted four minutes before Delabole drew level through Darren Rivers, and then 3 minutes later went ahead with Rivers second. St Stephen equalised through a penalty after a foul in the area resulted in a Delabole player getting a red card for being the last man and stopping a certain goal. Dan Hooper scored the penalty, but just on half time Delabole went 2-3 up when a shot struck the St.Stephen bar and the rebound was knocked in from close range by Kieran Barrett. The second half started with Delabole going close and then from a St.Stephen goal kick the wind caught the ball it sailed over the defence and Ross Dunn ran through to equalise with only 1 minute of the second half gone. A free kick some 35 yards from goal by James Truscott went straight in to put St Stephen 4-3 up on 69 minutes and then substitute Charlie Stone scored with his first touch. Ciaran Igoe normally the goalkeeper for the first team came on to score after 73 minutes to make it 5-3 Charlie Stone scored again on 79 minutes and then finally Hooper scored his 2nd after he and Stone beat the offside trap and Stone laid the ball into Hooper’s path to make it 8-3 .

Lifton and Welcome inn drew one all. Dan O’Donovan of Lifton traded goals with Ross Willcock.

Veryan moved ever closer to an inevitable Division Four title after a Craig Phillips hat trick helped them to a 6-2 win at Tregony. Martin Bishop, Justin Trebilcock and an own goal completed the Veryan total with Connor Rhodes and Andy Barnes replying for Tregony.

Gorran made the leader’s task even easier by beating third placed St.Cleer reserves 6-4. Even the loss of their regular keeper in the warm up couldn’t deny the home side who led 4-3 at the break. Joe Lewis, Henry Forsyth and Jack Bray-Smith scored a brace apiece for Gorran. St.Cleer replied with a Zak Peel hat trick, one from the spot, and a Rob Cole goal.

St.Merryn need one more point to confirm the Division Five title after a 6-1 win over St.Teath. The visitor’s goalkeeper allowed a harmless looking shot from Kevin Allen to slip through his hands in the 5th minute to give St.Merryn the lead. Allen went on to complete his hat trick before the 20th minute. St.Teath gained a foothold in the game when Andrew Grills struck home a penalty and for a while they threatened to get back in the match. Allen scored his fourth with Mike Shearer scoring a brace to confirm a dominant victory.

Southgate Seniors promotion hopes took a big hit with a 3-1 defeat at Pelynt reserves. They created their own problems with their keeper taking out a Pelynt player in the box in only the 2nd minute and being sent off. Pelynt missed the penalty, but were always favourites from then on against the ten men. Ryan Oxley, Jake Bellamy and goalkeeper Patrick Pollard with a long punt downfield, which sailed in on the wind scored for Pelynt with Carl Aldridge replying.

St.Minver reserves also suffered a major setback beaten by a last minute goal at Godolphin Atlantic reserves. Jason Keatley had scored for the visitor’s but the last minute winner to give Godolphin a 2-1 win has virtually handed the title to St.Merryn.

High Street and Tregrehan Mills drew two apiece. Jake Mansell and Stuart Kesson-Smith scored for High Street with Sam Rowse and Dean Dingle replying.
