Richard Chown
Trelawny Div 4: Gulval Res 5 Carharrack Res 7 (HT 3-1) A entertaining match for any neutral. Goals galore. Firstly, a massive thanks to the Gulval groundsman for getting the pitch ready after this weeks storms. A minute silence was observed by both sides in respect to local referree Lenny Stevens who sadly passed away. Following kick off, it was Gulval who took the lead after only 3 minutes when a clearance from the wing was not dealt with by the Carharrack defence. Carharrack then switched off allowing a Gulval forward to basically have a direct free kick from open play. With nobody picking him up he tap the ball at speed right into the top right hand corner. The same happened again with Gulval extending their lead before we woke up. Luckily just before half time Deano clawed one back before the interval after converting a nice through ball. The second half then became a bit of a blur when Gulval scored again just after the restart. Then in what should have finished off the game Gulval were awarded a penalty but in was saved by stand in 16 year old Goalkeeper Mikey Palmer. All over? Not so. Carharrack pushed forward and began to put balls into the attack who managed to put them into the back of the net. At 4 each with 20 to go Gulval went into the lead. Heads should have dropped for the visitors but instead they pressed on and after a strike was deemed to have gone over the line by the match official the game was once again level. Carharrack scented the win and with everything they had, went onto to score two more goals before full time. Much to the dismay of the home crowd. A entertaining match and well played by both teams. Best of luck to Gulval for the rest of the season. Man of the match for me was young 16 year old Carharrack goalkeeper Mickey Palmer who stood in today. flipt17
Divvy 4 Gulval Reserves 5- 7 Carharrack Res Gulval started the game brightly and were able to deal with the away teams attacking threat early on which saw them take a 3 goal lead after a tap in from Joz and two similar beauties from the right foot of Mr Hopkins. Carharrack pulled a goal back before a superb individual goal from Ellis made it 4-1. Gulval had the chance to extend their lead, but, the young visiting keeper pulled off a superb save after Gulval were awarded a spot kick. (ht 4-1). Gulval took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half whilst Carharrack were looking to go all out attack and boot the ball up to the numerous attacking players, this saw them pull it back to 4-4. Gulval again took the lead with about 20 to go after Belly slotted the hard working Ellis in to round off a solid shift from the winger (5-4). Gulval were finally put to bed with some quality goals from the Carharrack strikers (ft 5-7). A good game for the neutral which kept everyone guessing. Decent ref, who was possibly a little keen to dish the cards out. Carharracks Keeper deserves a mention after it's become clear he is only sixteen, he was brave and influenced the game in an extremely positive way for his team today. GMOTM: Ellis deserves it today for his effort in a defensive role, and his contribution to the attack, well played sir.

bluenose
Marazion Res 3-5 Newquay 3rds Today we were given a footballing lesson from a young, talented team. First half was just a write off as we were out passed and out played for most of it. Newquay scored after about 15 mins with a shot from well outside the box which went straight over Kevin in goal. We would have been lucky if that the the half time score but Newquay nicked another one from a free kick which was bundled over from close range. Opening period was very different as we got back on level terms within the first 20 mins. A ball down the left flank and Liam Mooney crossed for Matty Thomas (resigned from Hayle) hammered into the roof of the net. Craig Rennard then rifled in from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance. We then had a couple of other chances but got caught on the break when their striker took it around Kevin a tapped it in the back of the net. Unfortunately there was to be no great comeback like last week. Again caught out a few minutes later from our own corner, their winger rang the length of our half unchallenged to curl the ball past the keeper. The fifth was a looping header from a corner. Matty did get one back late on but all in all it was a poor performance from us but Newquay were well worth the win. Game was well reffed and he played the advantage as much as possible. Shifty
PREMIER: St Buryan 4-2 Mawnan Mawnan made the long trek down to ST Buryan for the only Premier Division game of the day, knowing a victory would move them into the top 4. For the first 30 minutes Mawnan were by the far the better side, having a couple of goals disallowed before taking the lead after 20 minutes. Mawnan continued to domiinate but were unable to add to their lead. AFter 35 minutes ST Buryan started to work their way back into the game, and were awarded a penalty. Fortunately for Mawnan the penalty was missed, but this was a short reprieve as the equaliser came just 2 minutes later. At half time the score was 1-1 but Mawnan were to rue the fact they didnt make enough of the first half possession. St Buryan came out a completely different side in the second half and were in the ascendancy straight away, taking the lead when the striker beat two or three players in the box to tuck home the finish, After this Mawnan changed players and formation to try and get a foothold in the game but were soon 3-1 down when a St Buryan finished from a corner that wasnt cleared. Following this Mawnan then started to get some possession again and had a couple of chances to get back in the game, but then were caught on the counter for St Buryan to make it 4-1. With 20 minutes to go Mawnan pulled one back to cut the lead to 2 and continued to press. One more goal may have made St Buryan nervy but it wasnt to be, St Buryan an excellent side in the second half and a great little setup down there. Pitch held up very well with the weather we've had

Guest BenTheYeti
In that order Ben? Ha, that's the million dollar question isn't it. To be honest, it's a lot more open than I anticipated, I thought that both Titans and Chacewater would probably go unbeaten until they faced each other. With the usual suspects of West Cornwall and Camborne School of Mines floating around near the top too. Trevenson and Rosudgeon have, to me personally, been the two (for want of a better word) surprises of the season
Poppet Payne
Trelawney Div 2 Pendeen Rovers 2 v 1 Redruth Res. On a cold wet saturday afternoon both teams played some good football on a pitch which held up well under the conditions. Refruth took the lead midway through the first half through an unfortunate mistake my the Pendeen keeper. Pendeen had earlier hit the post from some good work by Christian. Half time 1-0 to Redruth. Second Half. Pendeen were very quick out of the blocks looking for the equaliser which was hard to come by. Pendeen were putting alot of pressure on the Redruth defence but Redruth held firm and were very quick on the counter attack hitting the Pendeen post with 14 mins left to play. All of Pendeens pressure paid off with 7 mins to go a through ball to Andrew Annis who shot in to the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Pendeen ow with their tails up went for the winner which they got with 2 mins to go.Glen Carew heading in from a corner. A BIG SHOUT OUT FOR SHANE ARTHUR WHO MANAGED TO MISS FROM 2 YARDS OUT!!! OVER THE BAR!! (OH DEAR) Well played to Redruth all the best for the rest of the season. MOM For Pendeen - Shane Williams who was superb in Deffence. And also FOR THE GERMAN. Mangle
Division 1 Titans 2 -vs- 2 Newlyn Non Athletico A fairly even start, although Titans shaded the first 20 mins. Conditions not ideal (very sticky mud up through the middle). Newlyn took the lead from a corner, great finish from a scrappy delivery following a couple of break-away moves. As time went on, Newlyn got more into the match, and perhaps Titans needed half-time more. At the start of the second half, Titans piled forward, and after only 5 minutes had equalised. It was backs to the wall for Newlyn for a time, but Titans were unable to break through a dogged defence. And Newlyn always looked dangerous on the counter attack, and once again, following a couple of corners, regained the lead. Back came the home side, creating several half-chances. Finally, a penalty 10 minutes from time brought the scores level again, and both teams had chances to get a winner before the ref blew the final whistle. Probably a fair result at the end of the day. Titans No. 9 (centre midfield) class player. Don't know his name. Great food back at the club - thanks for that. Good luck for your season Titans, except when you come to our place of course!! Guest BenTheYeti
Division 1 Halsetown 1 - 1 St Ives Reserves Whilst most of the County's football had fallen foul of Hurricane 'Dreckly, The Wind Farm has once again shown it's remarkable sustainability as we didn't even require a pitch inspection before we trudged out into the Gale Force 5. Both teams were showing changes from their last meeting before Christmas, with St Ives switching Noah Tanner to centre back to partner Ed Wilkes, and Lee Norman playing from the start in his usual position of Central Attacking Whinger. After last week's impressive performance against Lizard, the Halsetown manager kept with the same starting 11, and the message was clear; "kick the ball, not them" Playing against the wind in the first half, and some strange, blinding, yellow object in the sky, we knew keeping the ball on the deck was imperative, as was defending manfully, as George Hatton was looking to pick up where he left off in the previous meeting in being a constant thorn in our side. For the first 15 minutes, we stuck to both of these tasks well, with St Ives restricted to one cross-come-shot which Wayne diverted over, and several corners which were well defended by our lankier members of the team. And with Beau and J Binney Jnr at a combined age of 14 out on the wings, we were making frequent visits to the St Ives penalty area, without troubling "lifetime" goalkeeper Ryan Bushby. As always, something was bound to go catastrophically wrong, and I cannot over state the sense of deja vu.. After young Mr Hatton had won two penalties over at The Saltings, Kyle's remit for marking him was clear "don't dive in". So, after 15 minutes, when he catapulted himself into a challenge inside the area with all the grace of Miley Cyrus' infamous wrecking ball, only to see the ball a yard away and George hitting the turf, there was barely a whisper of complaint or surprise when the penalty was awarded. Despite Lee Norman putting his winning penalty into the top corner last time out, Wayne had felt aggrieved with himself for not saving it, so he must have used some Jedi Mind-Control as Lee once again directed the ball towards the top corner, only to see Wayne claw it away like a Grizzly Bear chasing it's lunch. This missed opportunity only spurned the "away" side on, and but for Wayne once again thwarting Norman, and George Hatton kindly converting over the rugby posts when 3 yards out after Kyle had tried to sit on the ball, we would have found ourselves 1 down. As mentioned before, we ourselves were not lacking in attacking intent, and with the Chris' starting to take control of the midfield tug-o-war with Lee Norman and Elliot Fox, we were ourselves probing for an opening goal. With half an hour played, a breakthrough finally came, and for the first time in 390 minutes of football against St Ives, we scored a goal. From one of Wayne's "agricultural" goal kicks, the ball whizzed around the centre circle off several boots and shins, before Chris Goodall managed to play the ball into the path of his partner in crime Chris Pugh. His through ball, although exceptional in direction, would have asked a lot of Usain Bolt to catch it before it arrived in the goalkeeper's clutches. However, Ed Wilkes' leg suddenly became possessed by the ghosts of Halsetown players past, as he inexplicably stuck out a right shin, thus killing the pace on the ball and setting Beau Stevens through on goal in his last game for us before he returns to the Shire to save it from Mordor again. When faced with a one on one situation 25 yards out, most players would at least advance in to the penalty area before trying to score, but Beau is of the FIFA generation, and after one touch, promptly tried to scorch one in to the top corner. Luckily, it was hit straight at Bushby's snout, and all he could do was parry it back into Beau's path, who this time, having used all his might with the first strike, lofted the ball just over the fingertips of the goalie and with just enough oomph to get it over the line. As with last week, the goal seemed to galvanise us, with even yours truly galavanting down the wing and whipping in a cross which somehow evaded Westy's perfectly maintained fringe, though we could have gone in at the break all square, when John Leach and Wayne were both blinded by the sun and collided like a wave hitting Portreath, with the ball thankfully running behind. HT 1-0 With the wind at our backs and a lead in this fixture for the first time since 1957, we started the half determined to see this one through, and with Kyle now resembling a Welsh Terry Butcher, after some clumsy Oaf kicked him in the head in the first half (I still haven't apologised enough for that..) marshalling the defence with seeming ease, we set about trying to add to the scoreline. Any St Ives team is a tough nut to crack though, and they were in no mood to give up on getting back into the game, and the first 15 minutes of the half were once again a see-saw affair, with Chris Goodall having a shot deflected over after I'd crossed from nose bleed territory again, and Elliot Fox responding with an effort that decimated a colony of squirrels in the trees behind the goal. With 65 minutes played, the bad luck Ed had succumb to in our first goal evened itself out, as good work by Binney Jnr and Popeye resulted in a driven cross which fell to skipper Chris Goodall, whose driven effort deflected off Ed and into the shins, knees and chin of Ryan Bushby on the goal line, who probably still doesn't know anything about it. A goal was to come soon enough, and although disheartening at the time that it was the equaliser, it was unfortunately of no surprise that it came from switching off at a set piece. This week's episode of Narcolepsy was so bad, that the 9 men back in black and white shirts, seemed as though they'd all donned sleeping bags on the 18 yard line, as George Hatton and John "Macca" McWilliams found themselves almost holding hands 8 yards out. Although the previous couldn't control the ball into the box, it fell straight into the path of Macca, who slotted home with Wayne stranded. After the usual "where were we?!?!" inquisition, the manager threw on Jeff Robinson and Richard Thompson upfront, as we once again went in search of a goal to put us ahead. Within 5 minutes of the restart, some thought we'd achieved it, as a blocked shot by Tommo was sent back across goal, where Beau had been hiding amongst the blades of grass. But his acrobatic volley from 5 yards beat the keeper, but not Rob Lagor's linesman flag. With 5 minutes to go, and officially into "kitchen sink" time, one last chance came our way, with Chris Pugh bouncing a ball over the St Ives defence and into the path of both Jeff and Tommo bearing down on just the keeper. Unfortunately, they seemingly had their boot laces tied together, as one proceeded to get in the way of the other, and vice versa, and Jeff's outside of the boot lob drifted just over. A rare result in this particular derby, and perhaps we deserved more on this particular day, but 1-1, with no bad tackles, no controversy, and more importantly, no arguing in the pubs of St Ives, means we wait until next season to start winding each other up again. Sam Mills was the man in the middle, and he did an exceptional job, especially considering he had to put up with a certain veteran of local football appealing for hand ball every 15 seconds.. which was greatly ironic when he was the first person to be blown up for handling the ball.
