Recommended Posts

Good luck to Holmans this afternoon in a tough tie away to Perranporth

Would be great to see the club back in the area semi final of the Junior Cup for the first time in 10 years since the move up to senior football in 2004 when they lost the final to Morwenstow at St Blazey.....I would comment on the game that day but I had maybe had a few too many shandies!!!

Perranprth 2 vs holmans sc 1

the day pretty much started as expected with frantic panicking as to who we were going to have playing due to players being suspended and unavailable.

We managed to scrape together some what of a good side but I carefully noted en route that we didn't have a recognised striker within the squad. I did offer caddy and Tasker myself to act as an emergency number 9 for the day and to throw myself about up front but they kind of went down a different route by shoving me in goal (apparently where I belong).

The team looked good with ( to quote pitty) old man lavo organising the defence, Chris minns was given the role of holding midfielder to release Alex and jason a bit further forward which did happen with jason thinking he was Wayne Rooney just in behind eggy up front. Emo kid Aaron Meredith was back he would not confirm wether the my chemical romance show he went to was any good but with him on the right and our Turkish international on the left it still looked like a side that could get goals.

The game kicked off and holmans got a foot god in the game early on and after a couple corners we got our reward with a goal from Simon lavis with a powerful header. I then thought this might spur us on to go and keep the pressure and attacking up. but how wrong was I.

Perranporth grew in to the game and holmans kept giving possession away to easily to allow perranporth back into the game, and on the half hour mark perranporth were back in the game from a corner whipped in from there right hand side flicked on at the front post past myself into the goal.

Holmans tried to rally but straight from kick off holmans were caught playing around at the back and the perranporth left winger broke one on one but slipped his shot past the post.

Holmans and perranporth then failed to create anything until right on half time where holmans were caught napping the ball somehow ended up with the perranporth player in the middle of the box blazing his shot wide of goal meaning we went in at the break 1-1.

After an emotional and passionate team talk like something out of braveheart, holmans took to the pitch inspired and hoping to improve upon the performance, but unfortunately this didnt happen.

After about 10 mins in the second half holmans got caught on the break and sam king slipped as he was clearing leaving the player to run through and slip it into the net to make it 2-1.

Holmans went looking for a quick response and nearly had after a big punt up field from a free kick found Chris minns in the area unmarked with just the keeper to beat but he smashed his effort up the cliffs hoping his gf on the beach might be able to find it.

With holmans looking for an equaliser they were left short at the back and at risk to the quick counters of perranporth who nearly made it 3-1 when another counter attack ended up with the left winger crashing his shot onto the bar from about 12 yards out. Holmans made some changes to try get the goal we needed with monty cloutman coming on for sam king in a tactical re shuffle and Ben page being thrown up top to act as target man.

Holmans created a few more chances but were to all be denied by some good solid defending from perranporth.

The full time whistle come and I think perran just about deserved the win today and would like to say thank you for the food in the bar I after the game and wish them good luck in the next round and for the rest of the season.

Also i must mention that referee Paul Murphy had a good game as he always does when he officiates us and thank him aswell.
