Dan Inch
West Cornwall Res 4 - 6 Marazion Res Where to start on this one?? West Cornwall took the lead through a one on one which Ali Pollock slotted home neatly, the lead was extended when Jowan Kitchener drove low and hard into the bottom corner from 20 yards. Marazion responded pulling one back with a lobbed effort but West Cornwall were 2 goals up again when Jordan Harvey drove inside and shot low left footed, a deflection helping the ball past the stricken keeper, then a crazy 2 minutes which eventually decided the game in my opinion, with two mins to see out til half time a mix up in the defence left the Marazion striker with a tap in and then a lack of marking at the back stick left the half time score line 3 - 3 (worst celebration ever for the 3rd Marazion goal as well), two gifts for Marazion from the West Cornwall team. (If we had held out til half time I think we would have won but we'll never know) Start of the second half and West Cornwall almost scored with the opening attack, a cracking run from Kitchener and a fine cross from Owen Hodge not being dispatched by the front line. Soon after though West Cornwall were in front again, Ryan Hooper nodding in from a corner. Marazion equalised and then took the lead for the first time (cracking free kick) after a big miss from Sam Jenkins, the final goal was a well taken effort, smashing in off the post. In my opinion the best TEAM lost, West Cornwall played the better football and moved the ball well from side to side and in to the strikers to link off of but the two strikers for Marazion were the difference, get it to them and hope they do something, it worked today to be fair but it will be interesting to see if either are not available or mis-firing how well they do. bluenose
Div 4 West Cornwall 4-6 Marazion Res With both teams agreeing, the match was played on the 3G pitch. West Cornwall started the brighter and took the lead when their striker beat the offside and scored past Kevin in goal. We started to get more into the game and equalised when Craig Rennard latched onto a Matt Thomas through ball and then lobbed the keeper who was in no man's land. Both side had chances to take the lead but it was West Cornwall that took the initiative with a rocket from outside the area that flew into the back of the net. Soon after they made it 3-1 when a cross was sliced into his own net by Danny Taylor. Craig then reduced the deficit when he tapped into an empty net after a mix up by the keeper and defender. Then right at the end of the half Steve Hunt's cross was met by me and my header clipped the post and into the back of the net. 3-3 at half time but it was more defensive errors from both teams that created the goals. Second half West Cornwall again took the lead when their tall centre half flicked on a free kick which just beat Kevin at the far post. Both side had chances but with about 20 minutes to go Steve Hunt curled a free kick into the top corner leaving the keeper rooted. From then on we piled forward down each flank and it was down the left wing that we scored our fifth to take the lead for the first time in the game. Liam Mooney crossed and Craig controlled turned and placed the ball passed the keeper. We had a few nervy moments late on but Matt sealed the win late on when his shot went in off the post. This was a real advert for Div 4 football with both sides playing good football and looking to attack. Could have gone either way but thankfully we managed to get the three much needed points. With players slowly coming back from injury and a couple more hopefully next week we should be back to full strength. The game was well refereed by the man in black who allowed both teams to play football. Good to see the Camborne Park lads watching on the sidelines giving a bit of banter throughout the game. Nelly Furtado
I don't believe you guys - falling out and getting testy and argumentative about food. All the posts have been removed. What's wrong with them arguing over food? It is a source of frustration for a lot of clubs when people don't show the courtesy to return to the club house/pub. Especially when food is supplied for free. Seen plenty worse comments in this forum that have been left to run their course. If you are going to start excessively removing posts you may as well close the forum. It's not as if the posts were getting in the way of the masses of match reports that are flowing in. Dave Deacon
It's simple - either every visiting club should go back to the home side's venue or cook less food! 😇 And the reason, when there are games, that people don't post match reports any more is because of personal slagging off - so just trying to get back to the basics of why the forum was set up. Guest BenTheYeti
Division 1 Halsetown 4 - 2 Lizard Argyle With most football pitches in Cornwall resembling the Lost City of Atlantis, it was a very pleasant surprise to find out that once again the Wind Farm had survived the deluge.. apart from for Beau Stevens, who after a 17 hour session on the PS4, looked like he needed to check in to The Priory Nothing short of a Christmas miracle, not only was the pitch in good shape, there was nothing but a horse's whisper of wind, and with the turkey curries fully digested, off we set. The first 10 minutes were rather cagey from us, with the Lizard central midfielder at a mere 6"11 winning all the aerial battles and spraying the ball forward swiftly for the forwards to chase. Luckily for us, our 76th centre back pairing of the season of Kyle "Pirlo" Roberts and John Leach were seemingly the perfect foil for each other, ably assisted by the Yeti and Binney Snr at full back. The first 2 chances of the game came almost back to back after 15 minutes, with Chris Goodall making his first surge forward from midfield of the game and alarmingly getting a shot on target from 20 yards, and not heading towards St Just, only to see the Lizard goalie produce a brilliant one handed tip on to the cross bar and over. After clearing the resulting corner and winning a free kick shortly afterwards just in the Halsetown half, Lizard took the lead. Again it was the curse of the Halsetown Narcolepsy, as the ball in found the head of the Lizard central midfielder in several hectares of space, and his expertly guided, cushioned header was volleyed in by the onrushing winger from 6 yards, he too in a small farm yard of space. Normally 1-0 down after 15 minutes, on a cold, damp day, against opposition high up the table equals something close to a Nuclear Apocalypse in the Halsetown ranks, but yesterday, and long may it continue, we used going behind to spur us on to a near faultless half an hour of football. The early exchanges on our pitch, which as most know is big enough to land a Boeing 747, had shown plenty of swift passing, getting the ball wide and creating space for others to expose. On once such foray forward after 25 minutes, Binney Jnr was sent tumbling to the ground under the challenge of two Lizard players. The free kick was awarded 25 yards out, and after Chris' Goodall & Pugh had an arm wrestle over who was going to take it, Popeye naturally won and lined up his options. With 4 men in the box, and yours truly hoping he'd lay it off to the side so I could clearly score the greatest goal ever seen, Chris took the best option of hitting a wonderful effort so perfectly into the top corner, the keeper could have dived on Christmas Day and not saved it. Such a goal, albeit a brilliant piece of solo technique, galvanised the team as a whole even more, and 5 minutes later, we found ourselves 2-1 to the good. This time the build up came down the left, with Beau using his Hobbit stature to run through a couple of Lizard legs, and although his initial ball in was half cleared, Steve West retrieved the ball, shovelling it onto Josh "Anderton" Francis (who was managing his 9th game in a row without injury.. might need a new nickname that one..). With his back to goal and being closed out by an orange wall, he squeezed a bouncing ball back to the edge of the D, where once again Chris Pugh was on hand to strike another blockbusting, first time howitzer beyond the despairing dive of the keeper. Despite me waxing lyrical about our goalscoring exploits, Lizard were a constant threat on the break, and finding themselves behind was only serving to intensify their willingness to find gaps in our defence. After narrowly avoiding slicing a fizzing cross into my own net, which eventually evaded everyone. I was moderately awake enough to come charging in to my own penalty box and hack the ball out for a throw with the Lizard striker about to tee up a free shot on goal. My other defensive cohorts all had similar important last ditch lunges and blocks clear, as the game really opened up. Thankfully, good things come in threes, and with 10 minutes of the half remaining, Chris Pugh completed a memorable hat trick. Again the build up contained crisp, concise passing, and with Chris Goodall starting to worry that his top goal scorer claims would be under threat, he made a dash for the Lizard penalty area in an attempt to create an angle to shoot. Although he was forced wide and towards the byline, he managed to fire in a venomous cross, which the Lizard keeper did well to parry away right from under Westy's left nostril. The ball was bouncing towards the D once more, and the familiar sight of Chris Pugh charging onto it led to cries of "Shoooooot!".. and loe, from 20 yards, again with a first time effort.. he found the back of the net, despite the best efforts of the defender on the line. HT 3-1 The manager, albeit delighted with his charges, carried words of caution that we'd played "the easy half" and the men in orange would be right up for hauling themselves back into the game. After we kicked the second half off, and the ball was sent wide to me, I was duly set upon by two Lizard players, as I had a touch heavier than me Mum's Christmas cake, and it was clear that they were indeed up for reducing the deficit. The first 15 minutes of the half was your standard, dig a trench and kick the ball as far away as possible, as several waves of Argyle attacks were thwarted, with a couple of efforts getting through to the bellies of Wayne The Pain, and his unerring ability to strike fear into all those within 1 mile radius with his war cries of "Keepers!!!!!" at corners.. you do not want to get in the way of a flying 15 stone man with eyes like a Zulu Warrior. With an hour played, and the substitute merry-go-round for both teams in effect, the game was still being played at a hectic pace, which is a credit to both teams considering the time of year and the slightly heavy nature of the pitch. Naturally, in such conditions, the free kick count was starting to tally up (though not one bad challenge in the game by either team.. apart from Beau literally trying to run through someone.. must have thought he had the One Ring on..), and one such free kick nearly brought us goal number 4. Once again, Popeye was to the fore, with his whipped delivery from wide left being met by a glancing head of Chris Goodall, who had almost started celebrating before he landed, only to see the Lizard keeper (who was excellent throughout), once again pull off a quite brilliant save to tip it behind. We weren't to be denied for long though, and it was of no surprise to anyone playing or watching where the 4th goal came from... After a quick interchange between the Chris', Popeye was again rampaging towards the opposition penalty area. For once, his touch was a little heavy, and two Lizard players converged to quell the danger. The lad isn't called Popeye for nothing though, and a quick flex of either bicep left both defenders in a trough in his wake, and he took one more touch before sliding the ball under the onrushing keeper. Even at 4-1 down and just 20 minutes to go, Lizard didn't once look like giving us an easy time of it, maintaining their high tempo, passing game, and another day, if Kyle hadn't been playing like he'd just wandered down from the Snowdonian Mountains to save his dwindling tribe by playing centre back for Halsetown, they may well have got something from the game. As it's a festive time of year, Wayne decided to give the Lizard player's a belief of getting a draw, when a low driven cross from the left somehow sneaked between his hands and at least 2 of his stomachs, leaving the Lizard striker the simplest of tap-ins with 15 minutes to go. That was to be our only error thankfully, and we could have added to the score when Binney Jnr twice went close with trademark headers from corners, and Jeff Robinson finally getting a shot on target in his third game back for the club. A great game of football by both teams yesterday, with some outstanding passages of play given the conditions, thanks to all the lads from the Lizard for a really enjoyable one, sorry that the bar wasn't open.. them rugby lot couldn't care less if there's not an egg to be chased around the other pitch. We had Wynroe Heath yesterday for the first time in about 18 months, and I can honestly say he was absolutely superb. Every decision was spot on, advantage was played often, his communication with every player was excellent, and he too clearly enjoyed being out there yesterday.. a credit to all Referees

realaleman
Congratulations to the referee & both teams - Mabe & Camborne Athletic - for getting it on (Saturday 28/12) which delighted two Devon based groundhoppers who seriously doubted whether we'd tick a new ground given the deluge that greeted us on arrival! Camborne held out for the first 20 minutes before the goals started coming (4-0 at the break) with the second half proving increasingly one-way traffic, although a brief surge did at least allow the visitors to get on the scoresheet. Goal machine Luke Murray managed to take the total to double figures with just about the last kick of the game, but after all those squandered chances he will have to sharpen up if he's to keep his place!! Not bashing Mabe at all, but, 4 or 5 of their players have played 5/6 leagues above that level, it made the game a joke to me. Redruth were bamboozled at ever turn. Saw the boxing day fixture as well, both teams loaded up for that one, ridiculous some of the players drafted in for that game. Both of those clubs should know better, and so should the players. Cury fc
Division 3 Cury 4 Redruth athletic 0 Excellent performance from Cury from start to finish, well contested first half with Cury having chance after chance mainly from around the edge of the box with a mixture of poor shooting and a touch of poor fortune the teams went in 0-0 at half itime. After half time Cury came out the blocks firing and grabbed a couple of quick goals which really finished the game as a contest, cury continued to move to ball round and create more chances that lead to 2 more goals. The game could of slipped out of control as Redruths best player (Ben Beasley) I think started to make a number lunging tackles what seemed to be in frustration. In the end the clock run down and cury came away as comprehensive winners. Not sure the pitch will recover for our next home game Saturday but we will just have to wait and see. These guys have been doing an amazing job, at the forefront of a massive humanitarian taskforce saving lives, and whole communities in the Philippines after the devastating storms that killed many and destroyed nearly half a nation. When I next read about one of Pitty' s adventures on the Football pitch I shall recall that while some of us have nothing better to do than whinge about referees, others in our midst are out there doing untold good. Best wishes and a happy New Year to you Pitty and all your shipmates. Have a great break before you go back and do it all again. I salute you. All you have to do now is save Holmans, the world and everything really!
