Godolphin v Newquay 12.00 Noon Boxing Day

Recommended Posts

Such a shame that a weak, indecisive referee changed the outcome of this game.

2 blatant penalties, neither given. The first one a player was kicked in the face when just about to head the ball into an open net. Referee gave a drop ball outside the box!!!???!! Bottled it.

2nd one, in the last few minutes, striker goes down after twisting the defender inside out, referee gives a freekicks outside the box. Bottled it.

He also let a few flying elbows from Newquay go unpunished. In fact he saw one in the first half, blatant elbow in the face, and was man enough to give a freekick, but then bottled doing anything about it. Last time I checked, an elbow to the face is a red card.

:thumbsup:I would have thought it was more embarrassing for a settled side playing at home to drop points against a side who have not put the same side out in consecutive games all season, the money aspect is really boring.they are building a young side and I know for a fact that what some of the newquay lads are on wouldn't buy a four pack of beer.

Then surely the G player needed to take more care with his back pass? I think Newquay have every right to be pleased with the result and G disappointed with it. When I saw them line up I thought that this looks like men v boys (in the main) and with the recent result and early goal for the G, the writing looked on the wall. Credit to Newquay for staying organised and making the most of the gifted goal.

No doubt if G had got going and taken their chances then they would have prevailed, but they didn't and didn't

The Godolphin player had stooped so low to try and head, the foot was raised to clear the ball which he did - I have the photos to prove it. The Free kick towards the end was outside the box and a blatant dive to try and gain an undeserved penalty.

Flying feet and elbows were mainly from Godolphin who tried to bully the Newquay youngsters, again, photos to prove it. Constant moaning from the home bench as things were not going to plan, which is what is expected from any management team concerned that their side are not doing as instructed, or feel they are not getting 50/50 decisions.

The draw was the right result, we had a wonder goal followed by a silly one. Of course Newquay are the happier, Godolphin are by far the bigger, stronger and well drilled unit, to gain a point away is a fantastic result for the Peppermints. All credit to the Newquay lads, they battled well, struggled at times, gave the ball away too often but still could have won it, as could Godolphin. Sam Trudgian had little to do apart from a wonder save in the first period, he made 3 superb saves to keep Newquay in it towards the end. Semmens was kept busy at the other end, although he didn't really have shots to save, more crosses, scrambles and headers.

I'm sure that both sets of supporters were worried towards the end, either side could have snatched a winner. A good game of football on what was a great surface, well done to both sides.

I tell you what, you guys must have brilliant eyesight if your talking about the first half penalty decision. Crowded area at the bottom goal, wasn't many fans down there.

Lowry was fouled and the fans in the top corner probably had the best view whether it was in or not, probably a better view than the ref, but he's not going to take there word for it is he now.

The ref ruined it is your opinion, not fact.

G not playing to their ability and not taking their chances cost them 2 points, again, not a fact, my opinion.

The Newquay Voice currently own the rights to my photos, I am unable to publish any pics until after next Weds. If you still wish to dispute the facts at that point, please email me at newquayafc@mail.com.

For the record, the G player stooped, the ball was kicked away, hence the ball flying out of the area and the Ref bottling it by giving a dropball.

At the end, Tom Barnett and the G player were both outside the box, G man fell into Barnett looking for a Pen.

Right result in the end, fantastic G goal, a proper local derby where reputation and previous results counted for nothing. Enjoy the rest of the holiday period folks.

Im afraid this thread sums out the website for me now adays. Not one comment about getting the game played, nor 1 comment about the amount of good young footballers playing a decent level of football (and some decent football - thanks to derek and others) form the youth structures put in place in the town. There are countless people who work so hard (youth managers/volunteers/parents/senior managers) in trying develop footballers in the town and allmost all on here are worried about are thier own teams (not the players) getting one over and who can we moan at!!

Such a shame

Wasnt at the game so cannot really comment on any of the issues!!

Try again Granty, I made sure I mentioned the surface, it was superb in the circumstances. The policy of local players for both sides has been done to death in recent weeks, Godolphin attempting to claim they are 'the' local side, whilst Newquay have the biggest and best youth set-up anywhere in Cornwall, plus many discussions on the youngsters who have been promoted into the SWPL side this season.

The town of Newquay is blessed with 2 SWPL Premier sides, a fact that no other town in the County can boast, there are only so many players from the 'local' area to go round. The Peppermints are as Sandra Biggin would say, 'A Mixed Bag' but they are our players, bragging rights are what makes Derbies special, it is why 312 attended.

For me newquay are the towns 'club' due to their ground, past success & history. However its confusing how with newquays youth policy/development why are there so many ex newquay players doing well playing for their local rivals down the road at godolphin!? With godolphin ahead of newquay in the table was these players not good enough when at newquay? Seems a strange one. For me tho without doubt newquay will always be the towns main club

Wish i could of been at the game but due to my illness i couldnt make it good result for Newquay i would of thought like i said a long time ago the man for Newquay is Trevor Mewton and it looks like he has got the team working together at long last .I think people on here are just jealous of Dereks team they are just well run in every department and i really enjoy watching there entertaining style of football .It would be nice to see the G win the league but for me its got to be Bodmin they are such a strong team with the best goalie in Kevin Miller and with Danny O hagan back there they are a formidable team again so for me Bodmin 1st Plymouth Parkway 2nd .When Chris Luxton gets back in a Bodmin shirt they will be even stronger hope he has not had to finish playing a very fine player

Well Bodmin will have to up their game after yesterdays result 100% Cornish. I know it is only one game but they were very poor and they certainly didn't look like a team to be challenging for honours! Camelford were stronger all over the pitch and were deserved winners!

Btw, good luck with your recovery and wishing you better health in 2014.

I sincerely hope the G pull through. Far far better footballing side that Newquay who were poor and were decidedly lucky not to have 1/2 penaltys againts

Nemesis heaps the Shute on his own team by bragging and coming up with crazy observations and statistics when in reality all he was good at was sewing new names on his large flags

No doubt he will bang on about Newquay youth being the best in the county and how everyone else has a budget of x money while they have none

Very short memory old dog...there's good reason everyone is jumping ship

Maybe u need to wind it in a bit, that's not my opinion it's people I know and if u want to win start talking like a winner nota loser

Terry, you really need to stop posting after a night on the Sherry. If you are sober enough later on, you should pop to Mount Wise Stadium and take in the Combo match v St Ives Town (weather permitting), have a look at the youngsters who have come through the system.

Not sure why I need to wind my neck in, I have been more than complimentary about Godolphin and the progress they have made in recent years. The 'G' are currently better than The Peppermints on the pitch, but as with everything in football, it is all swings and roundabouts. Whilst the Newquay SWPL side are in transition, the remainder of the club is in very good health, something I and many others are proud of.

Just for the record, the lettering on all the Newquay AFC flags are printed professionally, I can't sew to save my life !

Nemesis, just an observation, not a dig before people start pipeing up...why if newquay have such agreat youth system have the first team in recent years got players in from over the bridge? Also the 'g' side contain alot of ex-newquay players, why did they move on & leave the club? Surely you would want to keep your better players, not lose them to your local rivals for them to enjoy more success than yourselves? I do still stand by tho that newquay will always be the towns premier club with their ground, support & history.

Hi Leeds, most of the players who left Newquay for Godolphin, did so 5 or 6 years ago. They left Newquay as they were promised regular SWPL football by G, something Newquay couldn't give them at the time. Jim Hiltons side was already full of local players, the youngsters were given some game time during the season but had there heads turned by G, whose side was rapidly ageing and would not be able to compete.

Derek has done a great job in moulding the players into one of the biggest, strongest sides around. You can't blame the players for having their heads turned at a very impressionable age, once you play SWPL you want to do so every week, a big ask for a group of 16/17yr olds. Riggers left after he had recovered from an injury that kept him out for almost a whole season, when he returned, the management at the time, said he'd have to fight for a place in the side, G offered him a starting spot. Jake left for St Austell after not being able to hold down a regular spot.

The Youth policy is working, there are several players at Newquay who have come through the system, Jack Bray-Evans is a fine example. This season has seen Alex Cole put in several MOTM performances, likewise Tom Barnett who has jumped from the 4th team to SWPL in a year, that is 9 Divisions. Luke Haworth is a regular in the SWPL squad as is Callum McOnie, there are many others who are playing for the Reserves at the moment, they all started in the Trelawny sides.

Unfortunately, no one will see The Peppermints youngsters this afternoon, the club have announced the game v St Ives Town in the Combo League is OFF. So all that is left for me to do, is wish all Newquay players and supporters, all forum users and lovers of football everywhere, a wonderful New Year and I hope that you get to see a game soon.

So Nemesis....... Today's Cornish guardian makes for interesting reading, especially with regards to your above comment.

Page 94, top left picture, Godolphin number 5 being kicked in the face at a height of about 6foot I'd say, the Newquay player with both feet out of control and up in the air. ......

So what was it you were saying?? And what was it about those photos you had to prove the opionions you were spouting??

Yep, seen the pics by Chris Cox, mine are from a different angle The CG pic looks bad but the words and pics do not make sense, Cole had kicked the ball away, it was not headed clear by Barnett, Coles momentum took his foot high and the G player was unfortunate to be kicked. Still, just one incident in the game that Newquay deserved a point.

I have invited you to email me so I can send you some pics, perhaps if you see some of them you will make a more balanced comment. For those on Facebook, I have posted some pics on the 'Newquay Loyal' page with an appropriate comment for OGC.
