le boss
Such a sad loss - one the the few you could have a laugh with on the pitch and a drink afterwards. Lovely man and a great ref. Hope ALL the leagues have a minutes silence at their next game. R.I.P. Lennie
Pitty
Rest in peace Lenny. A fantastic local football ref always fair and would talk to players throughout the game and have some good natured banter with everyone. A crying shame and I think everyone should hold a minutes silence for him over the Xmas period before the match and i'm sure he would enjoy a sly smile knowing everyone would enjoy a beer in his memory after as well. Advantage!
In Memoriam Lenny Stevens, whose funeral was held on Friday last.We stood in silence like players round the centre-circleHead bowed, eyes closed, praying for a friend who had past. You lay in your coffin, your whistle now silent, but loved ones beside youLonged to see you give it just one more blast. No more will you control our one-minutes silenceCounting down the seconds until the football can start.Your kits finally folded, your notebook is empty and your cards and your coin are all set apart. No more will you have players question your parentageNor a spectator offer his glasses to help with your sight.Neither the managers cry of diabolical decisionOnly later to admit you probably were rightToo late the skilful players quiet Thank youFor your well played advantage that led to a goal. And our own sobering realisation thatPart of Cornish football has gone with your soul. And for us who ref while we still have our healthMay we follow your example of Service Before Self
Eank
All at Newlyn NAFC would like to send our best wishes to Lenny's family at this sad time. Always please to see that he was our allocated ref and some of us are old enough to to have enjoyed playing with & against him. RIP
