West Cornwall 3 Chacewater 2 h/t 1-0

Fairly even game overall with both sides having periods of possession, played on the all weather facility at Cornwall College

West Cornwall took a lead with a low drive from the edge of the box in the first half.

Travis Hitchens equalised with a shot across Gary Stephens in the second half but a poor kick by Jason Gribble ended with Owain Barrett putting the home team ahead.Gribble did redeem himself with two very good saves later. It was a corner from Barrett that extended the lead before Chris Shackley pulled one back with a late goal.

Well played West Cornwall, thought your left sided defender was outstanding.

Gulval Reserves 1- Camborne Park 11..... Suprised firstly game was on then when got their the pitch looked in decent condition, good work by Rhonda and all at Gulval to get game on...

We went 1-0 down inside first 5 minutes but then started playing 20 minutes in and scored six before half-time. Team talk was kind of same again but no more defensive lapses weather and wind was getting worse but we managed to score five more second half.

Great bunch at Gulval nice laugh after in clubhouse, lovely facilities and i even won a raffle prize :) see you in our league cup tie soon :)

Redruth Utd Res 2 Mullion Res 1

A much harder game for us than the reverse fixture two weeks ago.

Mullion started well until we settled down bossing the midfield forcing mullion to put 3 in there making more room for our fullbacks to push on. we finished the first half well on top going in at two nil up.

Second half Mullion came out all guns blazing scoring after 60 mins but we put in a shift to hold on and in fact should have pinched a few more on the break.

The pitch held up well considering the amount of rain we have had.

Good luck to Mullion for the rest of the season

Gulval Reserves 1 - 11 Camborne Park

Gulval started the brighter of the two teams and were the better side for 20 mins which possibly could of seen them more than 1 goal up. But, Camborne are a side who know how to score goals and duly made Gulval pay with some quality counter attacking (hoof-ball :P ) football which resulted in a hat full of goals for them.

GMOTM: Saggy in the sticks did not have the easiest job today, but he gave his all and helped his team to keep the scoreline down. Well done sir.

A young ref today who did a cracking job.

A good bunch of lads at Camborne who play (and drink) like a team, we look forward to our next meeting on our route to the cup.

Caharrack Res 2 - 4 West Cornwall Res

Tough game for both teams in the conditions, West Cornwall started really well forcing the opposition back, a lucky pen put them in front, in my opinion ball to hand but the ref saw it differently, Nathan Jeffree slotting in the pen, 5 mins later 2-0 up, Sam Jenkins finding the corner after good work from Owen Hodge. Unfortunately that seemed to kick start Caharrack and they began bossing the game without really testing the West Cornwall keeper, Caharrack did score when their front man went 1v1 and our keeper could only palm it onto the post and in. Caharrack equalised just before the break, everyone stopping assuming offside but the flag stayed down and they converted.

A kick up the back side at half time and a West Cornwall were far better, defending solidly and breaking with intent, Sam Jenkins volleyed in a Luke Dennison-Reed through ball to make it 3-2 and although Caharrack had more possession they never threatened the goal, on the final whistle Will O'Neill notched the 4th, a well deserved. 3 points.

Made even better when we found out the first team had beaten Chacewater, top results for the club with 8 regulars missing.

Best of luck to Caharrack

Top of div 3 clash.... I don't normally credit our performances but today Chacewater 2nds were pure class...

After losing to Marazion Res 3-1 in Arthur Pearce cup 2 weeks ago there was no doubt Chace 2nds would struggle against Marazion 1st

with losing "greedy" forward to work commitments, we were going to be up against it, but the squad struck to the task involved and dominated 1st half albeit wind assisted but going in 0-0, with Lee Smith missing a simple task of putting us 1 nil up after 30min, with Chace continuing to dominate Lee Smith was brought down on a 1 on 1 situation with Marazion defender, which was only to be issued with a yellow.

Half time 0-0

2nd half with Marazion dominating after 10 minutes gone Chace finished a classic counter attack against the wind with Lee Smith putting us 1-0 up with an acute finish , game on... then a few mins later a corner that was never Marazion equalised with a "OG" tbh a very poor ref decision, but he only gets the one chance to see 1-1. More Marazion attacks saw a cracking save from Chace keeper "Woody" and couple cleared off the line by Justin Bennetts an Chris Pridham, 5 mins later after more wind assisted Marazion attacks, another Chace counter attack saw a shot from Lee Smith who followed in from the initial Marazion keeper save to make it 2-1, . Chace 3rd goal came from Darren Bennetts ...Darren Bennetts and Darren Bennetts and what a finish... pure quality 3-1 ....

Chace defensive qualities were outstanding today, team effort 100% , team togetherness 200%

and I just got home.. bad !

MOM Lee Smith with a squad not to far behind

Trelawney premier

Illogan 2-1 Constantine ( 0-0 ht)

(Matt callaway, Jason Roberts)

1st half

Played up the slope 1st into a really strong wind and it was really hard going but we did manage play some nice football at times mixed in with some ugly football due to the conditions. Even with such tricky conditions we still created some good chances but couldn't finish them, Dan Richards going close a couple times, one was a great strike that hit the post and came straight back into the beaten keepers arms as he lay on the floor! This was a sign of how the game was going. The half ended goalless with tine not working our keeper once.

2nd half

Playing with the strong wind it was one way traffic but after 15 mins constantine broke and scored with their 1st shot on goal sneaking inside our keepers near post!

Normal service resumed with us on the attack and we again went close several times but eventually scored from matt callaway with 25 mins to go. We continued to attack and the resolute Constantine defence kept battling, we then thought we had the winner when a cross from Garry sturmey was headed in by me but dubiously ruled out for off side. We kept plugging away and hit the post, we missed getting a toe to a ball 2yrds out and it looked like being one of those days until with 2mins left on the clock a free kick knocked into the box eventually came to robbo at the far post who nodded it across goal into the top corner!!!!

Some excited celebrations by us all skidding across the pitch left our groundsman with his head in hands and worrying about Boxing Day, sorry muggy!

A close score line which didn't reflect the actual game but a last minute goal means we keep the pressure up on all the rest of the sides and it looks like this season is going down to the last week of the season I think!

Fair reflection on the game I would say (I was the Marazion keeper for first 60 mins) good bunch of lads to play against and certainly the best game I have been a part of this season. See you at the return fixture

Division 1

St Ives Reserves 1 - 0 Halsetown

Naturally with such a game on the cards, we journeyed across town with a squad of 21 as we looked to overturn a recent run of three straight defeats without scoring against St Ives (though I might have had something to do with that last season..).
The 21 were whittled down to the allowed 16, with Richard Thompson returning to the frontline, and Beau Stevens returning from Uni to take his customary role at left back.
St Ives were bolstered by the cancellation of their first team game, with Andy "Yaya" Barry and Elliot Fox making up the midfield partnership, and Martyn Harding on the bench.
Although the rain had thankfully abated for most of the day, the wind had seemingly followed us from the Rugby Club, and a nice gentle Gale Force 12 was blowing from the car park end.
We were tasked with playing against said wind in the Ski Mogul half of the pitch, and the remit was clear.. defend for your lives until half time.
Both teams created an early chance apiece, with Richard Thompson working some space 18 yards out but curling harmlessly wide, whilst at the other end, George Hatton got onto a through ball and hit a deflected low drive which Wayne got down well to keep out one handed.
St Ives were quick to turn the screw with the wind at their backs, and the pace of George Hatton and James "Gilly" De Seta was proving problematic for our centre backs, particularly Chris Goodall who had been on his works do the night before, and had skin the colour of his football boots. Meanwhile, the Halsetown lads had decided to play a game of "see who can kick a St Ives player the highest in the air" with several hefty challenges being handed out, along with the obligatory free kicks.
Midway through the first half, St Ives should have got a breakthrough their early pressure would have warranted. A throw-in on the St Ives right caught the Halsetown defence napping, and again George Hatton found himself with some space. This time he tried to roll Jon Binney with his back to goal in the penalty area, and was promptly felled like a lumberjack taking down an Oak Tree. Andy Barry stepped up to take the penalty, but rather kindly hit a mild-mannered effort straight down the middle, which Wayne blocked away with his legs.
The rest of the half was devoted to something more suited to No Man's Land in World War I on Christmas Day, with only a swift break by Gilly well thwarted by Wayne, and a burst of pace and a fiery cross by Binney Jnr which somehow evaded all 49 bodies in the box, the only noteworthy moments.
HT 0-0
Despite stopping St Ives from scoring in the first half hurricane, the manager was less than pleased to say the least, and an instruction of "kick the ball to each other rather than kicking lumps out of them" was left ringing in the ears as the lads took to the field once more.
With the wind showing no signs of abating, a second half similar to the first seemed likely to be on the cards. However, St Ives started the half the brighter of the two teams, with a now front 2 of George Hatton and the wiley Lee Norman holding the ball up well and getting it wide, but an end product was not forthcoming.
With Chris "Popeye" Pugh also feeling the effects of some festivities the night before, we were increasingly looking to get the ball directly out wide to Kyle Roberts and Binney Jnr, but unfortunately the latter had clearly swapped his boots around at half time as his normal assured touch deserted him, and Kyle finding himself crowded out by the two St Ives Under 13's on their right.
This game had draw or 1 nil written all over it, and the goal came after 10 minutes of the half. Again, it was George Hatton who found himself advancing into the penalty area, albeit seemingly crowded out. Unfortunately for us, Chris Goodall had a rush of blood to the head, and went through the back of him with all the subtly of a Scania 12 wheeler, and penalty number 2 of the afternoon was awarded.
This time, Lee Norman stepped up, and sent the keeper the wrong way to the delight of the home fans.
The goal seemed to coincide with a worsening of the weather, with the wind now threatening to blow the pitch into the Atlantic, and a nice Arctic blast of rain to really make it feel like winter.
With the addition of some fresh legs, and naturally the desire not to have to come back into town on the losing side, we huffed and puffed as hard as we could, with even Alex Bonner seen charging down the right wing so hard his toes bled, and Chris Goodall & Binney Snr sending anything they could aerially into the St Ives half. A centre half pairing of Ed Wilkes and Nick Strong for St Ives though is, as I found out last season, a fairly tough nut to crack, and they were throwing all manner of body parts in front of everything and anything.
As darkness started to fall, and we had two shouts for penalties of our own waved away by referee Mike Glanville, even a succession of 5 corners in a row couldn't force the ball home, with Ryan Bushby in goal being able to gather anything that didn't hit a St Ives body, and Daryl "Fellaini" Smith just not having a big enough Afro to get a header on target when well placed.
St Ives could have wrapped up the points late on, but Andy Barry's skiddy toe poke clipped the base of the post, and the game finished with a big cheer from the home support.

In truth, I think I've sugar coated what was a pretty dire affair, which can mostly be blamed on the weather, and hopefully conditions will improve and the result will be different in 2 weeks time!

Good to see some old friends from last season, and being booed onto the pitch when I came on for the last 10 minutes was amusing.

Ha! In such an unattractive game, I think it was hard to miss anything noteworthy!

Football at this level should be about the enjoyment of the game, and other than obviously those who play for and support St Ives, there was nothing to enjoy yesterday until the final whistle blew and we could all get out of there!
