Grampound 1-2 Millbrook

Grampound took the lead through Shane Weeks early on but Millbrook equalised minutes later when a corner was not cleared well.

The second half was pretty even but the winner came when a header came back off the bar, hit the keeper and rolled in.

Millbrook were a very tidy, well-organised team who were prepared to battle and we wish them good luck in the rounds to come.

I have to agree that today's ref, Ian Roberts, was absolutely superb. He usually refs at a much higher level and it showed through his quiet authority, good decision making, willingness to smile and explain his decisions as the game proceeded and above all, his fitness and knack of never being more than a few yards from any incident. He played advantage perfectly, always willing to pull play back if necessary, and I did not really see much in the way of his decisions being questioned even in this match that was fiercely contested from the first minute.

I also agree that other refs could learn a lot simply by watching him.

Before, during and after he was also a real gentleman. Thanks Ian, I wish we could have you every week, a sentiment expressed by both teams!

I was at the game as a neutral and have to say that Grampound deserved to take it into extra time on the basis of the second half, but just couldn't find the equaliser. Shame to go out at the hands of a bizarre own goal, but I guess they're lucky they had this tie to play in the first place!

Excellent game to watch, played by both teams in decent spirits and as mentioned above well reffed (and linesman'd too if that's a word)

Wow - what a game.

I would firstly like to congratulate Millbrook on winning today and I look forward to sharing a few pints with them when I watch them in the final. Millbrook played the game in an excellent competitive spirit, full-blooded but fair throughout, well organised and a great bunch of lads who fully deserved the win in the end. Also, a great spirit displayed by Millbrook's supporters, management and an excellent performance by their assistant referee.

Thank you to Mr Rundle for your kind words but I do think Millbrook edged it on the day.

I would secondly like to thank my players who made me so proud today and never gave up, nearly forcing a deserved equaliser in stoppage time.

And finally, thank you to Ian Roberts who in my opinion was absolutely fantastic and as a referee myself, I can only aspire to your performance today and wish to thank you for an inspirational performance. I agree with previous contributors when I say that many referees could learn a great deal from watching you.

A fantastic day although I would obviously have liked to be progressing but I think this tie displayed all that is great about Cornish football. A huge thank you to all involved.

:c:
