News about the Mount Wise club .............

Recommended Posts

What I heard from a very good source, as well as also from someone shopping in Sainsburys Truro who while there heard from someone else that rumblings were being heard!

In any case, it's now been tweeted by Kevin Marriott that the club has confirmed it to him ...."@kjmarriott57: Newquay confirm Alan Carey has been 'relieved of his duties' as manager at Mount Wise. #cornishfootball @SportCornwall" - nice one Kevin

Trying to stir the bodmin pot here, why would dan leave bodmin after only couple games, when he stated that he wanted time out to concentrate on playing. Plus with laffs at town & their budget, it will be difficult to entice any of his old players down to newquay. Just my thoughts. He stands agood chance of silverware at bodmin also!

You're quite right, but on the strength of my source, I went with it :)

I get concerned when the "heard" factor is likely to bring the game of local football into disrepute, and I think you'll agree if we can avoid that, all the better!

I don't know what has gone behind the scenes at mountwise but what I do know was that Alan was given a remit to keep Newquay in the league and to build from there,Newquay are not in any danger of going down,Alan also put three local youngsters in the side and has been loyal to these players, his other remit was to build a side with local lads which he has started to do.Things have progressed at the club and it will be interesting to see who comes in and what the expectations are.

Good luck Alan and hopefully you will be backat a club soon.

I heard that Nanks wants to play at Sticker.

I'm not going to comment on what has happened with regards Alan Carey, there were and still are many varied opinions at 'The Mount Wise Club', more commonly known as Newquay AFC.

Looking forward, the club may want to promote from within. Andy Savage is a well liked and respected fella, he and Middsy could be in the frame !

Would be agood choice I would say nemesis, didnt he play agood standard of football up the line? Surely be abit naive of commitee to overlook someone with that level of experience, plus midsy knowing the local scene wouldnt rock the current squad either as both are know to them, & they way the club works

No team is going to compete with parkway or bodmin this season, better off reducing budget, employ from within or with a managerial record without big budgets, keep current players/staff happy & see out the season. Stabalising club should be paramount without guys that only do it with money to spend. I wonder if newquay were to slash budget considerably how many genuine applications they would recieve, maybe try it

Jim hilton another good shout winno, didnt he accumilate all the young lads at newquay originally, the one that got them all together in the first place? Again a man with plenty of experience. Nemesis had agood shout aswell with andy savage experience with midsy. Just shows that appointing someone like alan carey, might have the 'name' but doesnt always bring stability to a club. I suppose jim would keep & utalise as many of the young local lads as he knows most of them & would put them all under the club umbrella so to speak. Preventing them from losing even more of their good local talent to other teams

So glad Carey has gone he made bad signings and his still of play was boring now maybe a good manager would take over top of my wish list would be the Gs Derek Martin and his fine team coming with him but that would never happen my 2nd choice would put Trevor Mewton in temporary charge and see how that goes .Im stil looking forward to the cup match this weekend between Godolphin and Newquay i will predict a 4-1 win to the G .Whoever Newquay appoint must be better than Carey

Names so far that I've heard that might be in the frame...

Dan Nankarrow

Kelvin Hunkin (as an Asst)

Andy Savage

Sean Middleton (as an Asst)

Trevor Mewton

Jim Hilton

John Hodge

Nanks is said to want a break from management. Kelvin from what I'm hearing would be happy being an Asst Manager. Andy Savage has done wonders with the Kids in the Combo side, with Middsy at his side, the players and fans would be happy. Trevor is known throughout Cornwall, Jim Hilton is a Newquay Legend and half the players he had are at, or have been at Godolphin. John Hodge would be a wild card.

What's done is done, I have mixed feelings about the sacking but nothing I can do, it was a decision made by a select few from what I'm told. I get the feeling that the 'General Manager' is going to have to start living up to that title, he may have to take the side on Saturday at Godolphin. Since his appointment with the grand title, we have had 'names' in the Manager seat, perhaps it is time to take it 'in-house', settle the club down and look to rebuild for next season. The SWPL side are too good to be relegated this season, won't win a Cup and may have blown the points per game ratio for the FA Cup. No point trying to do anything but take a step back, look at what we have at the club and start again.

No point looking backwards, big name managers and players have come and gone, for those that make decisions, it has not worked in the last 18 months, the SWPL sided has not taken the next step forwards. I will stick my neck out and say I'm in the Savage/Middsy camp, having thought about it for 24hrs, I'd rather we kept things in-house and rebuild.

Before the trolls say that all is not well at 'The Mount Wise Club', beneath the flagship SWPL side, the club is in good health. The bank balance is in the black, the youth section is coming on leaps and bounds, especially with the £50k grant approved to start building the training centre at Quintrell Downs. The Reserves and Trelawny sides continue to produce players who will be SWPL stars in the future, the Ladies are starting to get back to where they were, before Truro came and ripped them apart.

Let's hope that 'The General Manager' advises the 'select few' in the right way, time will tell, but the wrong appointment now, could set the SWPL side back again.

im going to predict Trevor Mewton as manager with Jim HIlton as his assitant or even Chris Morris if he is still around Alec Farguson not doing much now or Holloway or Neil Warnock lol .Nothing in my Newquay Voice about Carey going .It seems Godolphin have no strikers for there match with Newquay on satday so Newquay maybe in with a chance still going for a 4-1 win to the G

The news broke just before the printing deadline, but as not all the facts had come out, the Voice decided against going to print. It is however on the Newquay Voice website, just click this link, it will take you straight to it. http://www.newquayvoice.co.uk/news/6/article/4425/

By the way 100%, the Wife has the Car Sticker on her motor, if you come and see me at Godolphin (I'll have a Red & White hat and Camera), we can get it off her back window for you after the match.

Don't be fooled by Derek's comments, he is playing mind games. Godolphin are big favourites for this match, probably for the first time since they joined the SWPL. Whilst beating the neighbours is always nice, it would not be the end of the world this season. Obviously, the Reserves are at home on Saturday v St Just 2.30pm, no doubt some will watch that match instead.

Just add to the fuel, I have quit as combo manager, the club had sounded me out for the job twice before sacking Alan, and know I wanted the job but haven't even interviewed me, instead saying I needed to apply in writing. I have done everything and more for the club since arriving in April, now feel massively disrespected.

All the best to the players and supporters for the rest of the season, and good luck to the new manager.

Gutted that you have quit Andy, I know that you had some backing from supporters for the main job, the club seem determined to bring in a young manager with an older head to assist. It is clear they wanted you to remain in the Combo job and continue the good work you have done since April, they just didn't see you as having the 'local' knowledge they require.

I, on behalf of all those who have watched the Combo side since April, thank you for all you have done on and off the pitch, there are many youngsters who would not be the players they are now without your input.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do next and have a great Xmas and New Year.

Cheers

Mark

Andy I don't know you personally but when you took over the combo side at the end of last season the lads responded straight away and I know from what Luke has been telling me you would have been a great choice for him personally as first team manager, crying shame you have left the club all the best and whatever club you go to will be extremely luck
