OldFan
Teams in the ECPL premier have played more than half their seasons games and a couple have reached the half way point in ECPL div 1. That said, how do people now see the leagues shaping up for the end of season? Arguably with 5 games in hand Parkway will win this league by some way come end of season. Torpoint have some quality in its ranks, however with the first team having to take players they just haven't had the squad this season to challenge. They aren't quite the outfit of old anymore which is disappointing. A lot were predicting Torpoint to win the league at the start of the season, and with results like ending parkways unbeaten run, you can see why, but as stated, they just haven't got the players this season. They'll plug away though so I predict 1. Parkway 2. Torpoint 3. Saltash Division 1 is looking exciting. Looking at the table, several teams will be challenging for that top spot. Fowey have charged up the leagues and it's easy to see why, a very good footballing team, they'd beat half the teams in the Premier Division. A very bad result kicked off their campaign poorly against Lanreath, they soon rectified that and have since only lost to Edgcumbe. 2 draws against St Austell and Mevagissey leave them in 2nd spot with a game in hand. They'll definitely be challenging for the coveted top spot. Roche have been a very good team for years now. Well organised and very hard to break down, possibly not the most exciting team to watch but they more than get the job done. Excellent defence which starts from the front. They've only lost once - to Mevagissey and drew to Edgcumbe. They have games in hand, which looks good, but mistakes happen when playing catch up, a home pitch susceptible to the rain may see more games called off over winter, hiccups may occur and losses come in. If they can avoid this though, they'll definitely be up there come April/May. St Austell are another good footballing side. I don't know too much about them but a single loss to St Blazey and draws to Fowey, Mevagissey & Bude put them in 3rd with 2 games in hand. Personally I don't think they'll win the league but more than likely finish not far off. Mevagissey. Unbeaten in the league. 3 draws against Fowey, St Austell & St Blazey. 4 games in hand but as previously stated mistakes happen in playing catch up. However, they've beat Roche which is no easy task. Although they still have to face Edgcumbe twice. If they manage to go unbeaten all season in the league, which I doubt but you never know, it'll be some mean feat. Another contender for top spot come end of season. Edgcumbe. A team I watch regularly when at home as I live in a village not far away from Torpoint, their home town. I may perhaps be biased, but unintentionally, I don't 'support' them as I just enjoy all teams in football. Very poor last season by their standards, it was important they stayed up, and a change in management I believe just before Xmas last year saw a slight improvement and they managed it. They have a superb manager in Mackenzie Arnold, clearly he was going to turn their fortunes around in the summer and he has done so. Some great signings in Tom Hall, James Cooke, David Lorimer and Mike Heron, as well as a handful of others, have seen Edgcumbe demolish teams and as such are top of the league. However, a hard fought draw away to Roche, a disappointing draw to Probus and definitely 2 disappointing losses to St Austell & St Blazey have seen them drop points. The loss to St Austell shows St Austell's ability and why they'll be there or there abouts for top spot. However, St Austell were very lucky to finish the game with 11 men, some off the ball antics no one likes to see & some on the ball antics missed by the referee allowed them to see a 1-0 home win out. Edgcumbe will be looking to beat them in a few weeks at home! It'll be a must see game! The mid week clash against St Blazey early on in season was a bad loss, Edgcumbe were just not up to task. Missing 4/5 key players they were soundly stuffed. It's difficult to raise a team sometimes on a Saturday let alone a mid week fixture an hours drive away, also St Blazey clearly had a 3/4 'ringers' in, notably in the Rikard brothers (forgive my spelling), and as such they just proved too much to handle. I understand teams bring first teams members in when possible and in a club setup that's just how it is, however when a player brought in is signed to another club who they play most of there football for, it isn't in keep with the spirit of the game. Alas, it's probably something that will never change. When St Blazey visited Edgcumbe and had their 'starting' team it was easy to see they were no match and Edgcume won the game 3-0. St Blazey aren't a bad side by no means, they'll finish mid table IMO. Edgcumbe have a very very strong squad, yet in my opinion their manager has only had his strongest starting 11 twice this season, but the fact they are top and unbeaten in 10 or something games (including cup games) scoring 27 goals in their last 3 games alone, it shows the depth and quality they have which is why I believe they'll win the league. 2 important games against St Austell and Fowey before Xmas will cement my opinion if Edgcumbe win both ties. It would be brilliant to see Edgcumbe V Torpoint seconds next season, two teams from the same town with quality across the board. Difficult to predict who'd win, on current squads I'd go with Edgcumbe but I get ahead of my self. 1. Edgcumbe 2. Fowey 3. Mevagissey 4. Roche 5. St Austell. It's going to be tight, a matter of 1 or 2 points in it and even may come down to goal difference or last game of the season! Please comment on where you see teams finishing in both leagues. Forgive any factual errors and keep it postive, everyone has a gripe, including me as I've shown but for the most part it's praising of everyone. Babos
Don't have any predictions there are a lot of clubs that can win the title lets just see wot happens and to say edgecumbe won't lose again this season is a big statement
Doogle
Babos I never said they wont lose again, I said "hardly" lose a game!! edgecumbe and Fowey best footballing teams in the league and will both be challenging for top spot, followed by st.austell and meva, I have a feeling roche will slip away again with so many games to catch up yet again due to so many of there home games being postponed!! Babos
Only 1 home game called off last season and 2 so far this year as we have has lots of rain this year .I think u will find that polperro had loads of games in hand last season and won the league so that makes no differance.anyway we will let everyone right us off and see wot its like end of the season
Doogle
Thing is babos polperro had a decent sized squad, when I have seen roche play twice this season they only had 12 players both times! But you are right, time will tell.
saturday nite fever
Babos let people think what they want, let the football do the talking!!
MaccaB
Agree with Sat night fever. There a few of us who have made good starts, but that's all we've done and there's hell of a long way to go. Let the football do the talking on the pitch. I hope we are challenging at the end of the season but having played st Austell, blazey, fowey and Roche this season already it's gonna be tough. unitedrhino
Like the Discussion, and obviously have an opinion. We (Nanpean) played Edgcumbe last week and they are a good footballing side and were missing 4 or 5 i believe, although they didn't need them. They will be Top 2 for certain. Good bunch. Roche have a strong squad and don't concede many and will be challenging to the end, Top 3. Agree Fowey good footballing side, but not sure when they play the better sides there defence will stand up. Top 6 St Austell have had a good start and will always have the 1st team to call on. although having seen 2 games against us and 2 home games, they seem to have the Referee's on their side at the moment. Top 3. Mevigissey playing well but will have to see when Chris Dingle not available where there threat will come from Top 6 Plymstock funny side, had 20 players the two games we played them and they played some good stuff. Top 7 St Blazey we have not played yet, but they have a few better players signed on, so will be in and around Top 7. Nanpean will finish in the Bottom 3, but hopefully not Bottom x Only my opinion, but being a Leeds Fan probably correct.
