Foul Throw 3
A good game on Saturday ended with Saltash progressing in the KO Cup. A lot of talk in pre-season of both sides looking to do well and this game was a good advert for both. Two young sides who try to play good football. Saltash took an early lead from a direct free-kick which the Torpoint GK let slip through his greasy mits. I think it was Tony Jane who took it. Not long after that he calmly finished from close range to make it 2-0. At this point I did predict the worst but Torpoint didn't bend over and let themselves down. Good work on the left resulted in a good save from the Saltash GK but it was bundled in by Rob Edwards. In the 2nd half, Torpoint equalised after a free kick was crossed into the box to the towering Will Dunstone whose header somehow fell to fellow defender Luke Britzman to slide home. The 2nd half was played at a fast pace but Saltash did eventually break the deadlock once more with another superbly taken goal from Jane. A cross from the right was brought down and slid into the corner past the GK. From then Torpoint were chasing the game once more but Saltash were experienced in their play, controlling possession and slowing at down when they could. The lad in the middle who came on particularly impressed me with his tempo and distribution. I think his name is Dan Parks but i'm not 100%. I've seen him play a lot higher standard in the past and his quality did show through. Despite losing I think we at Torpoint can be confident that our young side will continue to improve and the results will come I am sure of that. On Saltash, I think they are the best we've played this year and should be disappointed not to finish the season with at least one piece of silverware. I think they will finished the Duchy Prem in the top 2, alongside the robust Pensilva. Will be an interesting fixture between those two. All the best for the remainder of this cup run!
