Mossy
Cancelled because of no ref, then on again because ref was found, so got the lads to rush upto the meeting point so we could get there in time (1 hours drive) for it to be cancelled again because the manager didn't want to get his lads to meet up again. Not being funny but that is embarrassing and should be looked at by the league.
Mongoose
I understand the frustration and apologise for the mix up but the only embarrassing thing is the title of the thread. I take it as an insult! Here's how it actally went...... 1) I rang to cancel the game after repeated efforts since Wednesday until this morning to get a ref. 2) Less than an hour passed and a ref rang to say he had become available due to a postponed game. 3) I thought great, there may still be time and in my haste rang Tania ( a very understanding and pleasant lady indeed) to see if there was any chance you guys could still travel and get the game on. 4) Tania gets back to me and says YES, you guys still can come, I said to her, 'Ideal Game On' 5) I ring our manager who tells me that he has informed the team its OFF already and a few of the players were to make use of the chance to work/go out etc and we are now too short to comply 6) I immediatley ring Godolphin chairman and the once again, very understanding lady tells me no worries and thanks for trying etc. 7) Embarrassing? Yes. But all we were endeavouring to do as secretaies, was get the game on. Many phone calls/arrangements and rushing about for players to get an afternoon of enjoyment. I understand the annoyance but this knee jerk reaction thread,..... really?? I hope this clears up the confusion. Once again sorry and thanks to Godolphin. greenarmy21
As a secretary I'm with North Petherwin on this one. Ideally you have a ref and the game is confirmed on the Monday before as usual but as we all know this season isn't ideal for that. But how long do you wait before one is available? I'd be pretty annoyed about losing a Saturday if I was waiting around for a match when we'd known from the previous Wednesday that there was no ref and there was no game because of it. You have to give people the chance to work or have family time ASAP. I'm also of the opinion that once a game is called off it is off. I'd tell my players immediately and then everyone's in the loop. Confusion and changing of decisions doesn't benefit anyone. Games get cancelled, we have to accept that.
AJW
Don't know what time the N. Petherwin manager told his players it was off, but Paul Murphy usually says wait until 11am. If you haven't heard by then, assume no ref is available.
