Gwinear Res 3 Helston 4. One a piece within fifteen minutes and then two red cards on 20 and 25 minutes saw Giwinear down to nine men. Helston took a 3-1 lead until the Cat was unleashed, scoring two great goals. Three a piece with ten mins to go then the tiredness and fatigue crept in, it was at that point that that we conceded against the run of play.

Despite being down to nine men, the Helston keepers (first keeper went off injured on the hour mark, kept Helston in the game in the first half with some top draw saves) had more to do than ours, if we'd have kept our discipline (the first red card was extremely odd, the player was booked for taking a throw in the wrong place, a bit of miscommunication (no rudeness or anything) saw our player ask again where to take the throw, because of that he saw a second yellow. Pathetic decisions by the ref. well within her rights to send our cb off though, in the heat of the moment, he said something stupid) I believe we'd be through to the next round.

The nine remaining Gwinear players battled extremely hard against all the odds and almost pulled off a complete shocker!!

Chacewater were awful today, too many players not up for the battle. Take nothing away from Rosudgeon, very good and well organised side. They all ran there socks off and thoroughly deserved the win. There number 6 scored an absolute stonker of a free kick.best one I will see all year,no doubt about it. Good bunch of lads, will look forward to the return fixture

Division 3

Goonhavern reserves 2-2 hayle 3rds (1-2)

Probably one of the best pitches in the league and perfect weather gave the option of a good afternoon of footy hayle scoring in first 5 mins but then 5 mins later GH equalised with an own goal from our defender as the shot was going wide. Good end to end footy up till half time where hayle lead 2-1

Second half seemed to be dominated by a frustrated GH loads of harsh challenges and cursing towards hayle few stern words an yellow card didnt really stop them throwing toys out of their pram. Then the last 4mins hayle forward went down injured so play was halted, when the ball was dropped for customary pass bk which we had obliged to earlier, the GH right back ran off up the pitch no sportsmanship or etiquette shown whatsoever very poor show, just to top it off the ball eventually made it to their striker in a few secs went down on the edge and a pen awarded. 2-2 in 93rd minute.

After the match even the. GH manager said he was disappointed at the fact they all acted in a childish way.

Disapointment doesnt quite feel strong enough for me. Felt like we were conned. I know its not in the rules but the whole performance was summed up by that moment which ruined the game.

Percy Stephens Cup
Redruth Athletic 2 - 3 Halsetown
On our first venture out of St Ives for 5 weeks, we travelled up to Clijah Croft and promptly got so confused by being so far away from home, walked out onto the wrong pitch.
With 6 players AWOL, coupled with getting onto the right pitch 2 minutes before kick off, our cobbled together team looked rustier than the Tin Man in a monsoon.
Redruth were straight on the offensive, with the wingers and the lone striker all finding space in behind the Halsetown back line (which luckily included James Hutchinson at 18, to reduce the average age to 56.2) and winning several early corners via either the returning John Leach's shins or Mr Insanity's gloves.
An opening goal was almost a formality, and despite my desperate cries of "everyone on a man" from the touchline, a well delivered corner was met with a powerful Redruth header and a shout of "Ah s**!" from Jo Binney as he realised it was his man in 34 yards of space.
Under usual Halsetown circumstances, this would have been followed by the conceding of another 5 goals in as many minutes. But quite alarmingly, it gave everyone the wake up call they needed, and suddenly, football became a very simple game of kicking a leather bag to one another until you got to the other end of the grass field.
With Alex Collier showing no signs of nerves on his full debut, peppering the oppositions penalty area from all angles, and Gareth Clifton-Dey getting the freedom of the West Cornwall Mining Community on the other wing, we carved out 4 or 5 good chances, with the Redruth keeper tipping over very well from an Alex piledriver and a Josh "Anderton" Francis header.
The pressure finally told and it was all square from an almost carbon copy goal of the first one.
Acting manager, Darren "Willow" Bromley, made his furthest run of the match to go from left back to take a corner on the opposite side of the pitch, and after he got his breath back, delivered an inviting cross which was met by a charging Jo Binney, whose clearly been watching his Dad head the ball as he rose like a curly-haired salmon to thunder a header home.
With the bit firmly between the teeth, the Halsetown lads continued to press forward in search of a second, with Daryl "Bob Marley" Smith pausing his 94 Cruyff turns long enough to smash a rasping half volley over the bar, and Chris Goodall being blinded by his nuclear waste coloured boots and firing a few half chances wide and over.
HT 1-1
As I'd spent 45 minutes barking nonsense from the touchline, I was charged with giving a team talk.. Surprisingly for me, it only lasted about 4 seconds and the message was an obvious one; Keep it up.
We started the second half in the usual fashion... snails in salt comes to mind.. and Mr Insanity (who we managed to tranquilize before the game this week, so he was almost normal) was called into action early on when he kindly shinned a goal kick to the Redruth striker, but made amends by racing to the edge of his box like an obese Puma and smothering the ball, man and pitch in one swoop.
Halsetown were still playing good football, and Redruth were defending excellently, so an intriguing game was panning out, and then the Referee decide to have a bit of a moment.
A few fouls had been conceded by both teams for less contact than you'd see in a netball match, but when Anderton skipped past a defender and played a perfectly weighted reverse pass to Chris Goodall, who was superbly tackled by the centre back, the ball heading off somewhere towards St Day, you can imagine both teams surprise when the Ref pointed to the spot.
Luckily for us, Chris has no conscience on a football pitch, and after bizarrely being asked to retake his first penalty which found the bottom corner, he duly smashed the second effort straight down the middle at 90mph.
I clearly got far too excited by this goal, and giddily brought myself on at left midfield. After my first touch was to hit an overhead kick narrowly wide, my second touch almost brought about the equalise for Redruth. After expertly blocking off our own left back with said touch, I was duly ploughed into the turf by the Redruth right winger, thus having my shorts and boxer shorts removed in the process. Whilst I was still mooning the Redruth goalie, the winger had charged the length of the pitch and sent the striker through on goal, whose first touch luckily left him a bit to do, and I was the most grateful man on the pitch to see the ball hit Wayne's glove and one of his bellies before going off the post for a corner.
However, the Referee was clearly having second thoughts about his earlier penalty award, and after the corner was half cleared, the second delivery into the box brought John Leach up against a Redruth midfielder. They could have given each other a kiss on the cheek and made more contact, but the Redruth lad chanced his arm, fell to the floor and appealed, and the penalty was given. 21 men shook their heads in disbelief, and John Leach shook his fist in anger.
Wayne was clearly on a mission to avoid any chance of extra time and less time in the pub, and he dived away to his right to brilliantly save the penalty with his hand, then knee, then foot.
No more than two minutes had passed, and we looked to have put the game to bed. James Hutchinson had been excellent in both attack and defence all game at right back, (nd was also pulling off a mean Phil Jones facial expression impression for every header), and his tenacity to win the ball back, led us on a quick break with Chris Goodall making inroads into the opposition penalty area. He wisely ignored my screams of "pull it back!" and beat his man before firing in a fizzing cross across the 6 yard area. Alex Collier was the first to meet it with an assured right foot.. which went off at a 90 degree angle and onto the underside of the cross bar. For once a ricochete went in our favour, and the ball fell back to his feet, and he took 7 touches before hammering home from 2 inches.
Redruth were in no mood to be rolled over though, and kept throwing everything at us, and as our walking wounded started to tire on a heavy pitch, they made the last 10 minutes somewhat frantic by pulling a goal back.
With the Halsetown defence backing off, a Redruth midfielder decided he'd run far enough and tried his luck from 25 yards. The ball vanished up Gareth's arse, and when it returned, it bounced kindly into the strikers path, who took a touch before smashing home a truly brilliant effort into the top corner from a tight angle.
There was plenty of huff and puff for the last few minutes, but we stood firm, and Chris Goodall should have added to his tally at the death when my punt up field found him bearing down on the keeper, but his bending, swerving, dipping shot, bent, swerved and dipped straight at the goalies gloves.
FT 2-3
Not a classic on a heavy pitch but both teams made it an entertaining game, and I think we deserved the win, and the little bit of luck we've been lacking in all departments all season. Massive credit to our lads that played today, with several carrying injuries and a few out of position, and thanks again to Redruth for a good, competitive game.

Pleasing to see a man of the match performance from one of our 16 year olds. Certain to be two hard battles to come against you in the league

Hi Kempy, hope you and the family are well! Send my regards please mate. I've torn my MCL (medial collateral ligament) in my knee. Physio said no footie for 6/8 weeks minimum. I did it second game of the season but rushed it. Played two games, out for 8 weeks, come back for two out another six bud! Knees and old age eh mate! Courtney used to say "Kempy would limp around all week then score a hat-trick on Saturday!!!" Stuck on 21 goals to go for a while but still hopeful I can retire by the end of the season!? All the best bud x

Div 1

Stithians 1-1 West Cornwall

WC dominated for the vast majority of the game, 2nd half especially was literally one way traffic. Unfortunately the last few weeks has been a struggle in front of goal. We're creating enough chances to win a game 3 times over, but a combination of some top keeping/body on the line defending, width of the goal frames being widened, and some wayward finishing is becoming slightly frustrating!! At least we are creating great chances so it will come together soon! Credit to Stithians who kept going yesterday, and almost nicked it at the end with their only effort in the 2nd half as we were pushing everyone forward looking for the winner, and nearly got caught out. Disappointed to not come away with all 3 points as we probably deserved it, but could be a good point come the end of the season. Plenty of points to play for still and everyone will drop points through the season. All the best to Stithians for the rest of the season, good bunch of guys down there! Also your lino was top drawer, well done Sir. Well reffed by Alan Pearce also.

Any thoughts on the third goal nige? Best you've ever seen ;)

Certainly a superb strike as all that were there will testify, nearly 40 yards and top corner not giving the keeper, who had an inspired match,an earthly. At my age and with the games that i've done,i've seen some great goals but that has to be up there too.

Jayer's second goal was also a very clean strike from 25 yards and into the top corner.

Division 4

Carharrack Res 2 Camborne Park 10

HT 2-6

Park Scorers

Grasso 4

Prout 2 (1 pen)

Knuckey 2

Fenton 1

Norfolk 1

Park came straight out the blocks and Grasso had completed his hat trick within ten minutes of the game starting with three neat finishes barring down on on goal.

The fourth came from a cross from the left which was headed in by Knuckey at the far post.

Carharrack then made a few changes which steadied the ship a bit before a ball over the top found Norfolk who shot and found the top corner of the net.

Carharrack rallied together and started to get themselves in good positions and got a goal back when a switched ball found there left winger free and he calmly lofted the ball into the far corner of the net

Park responded quickly and got there sixth when a free kick from Nicholls on the left found Fenton at the back post who headed it back across goal where Prout was lurking to head home his first ever headed goal

Just before half time Carharrack had a corner which found one of there players free in the box and he drilled it across the box and with the help of there winger found the back of the net to take the scores in at half time 6-2

Our team talk was to make sure we didn't take our foot of the gas because we knew Carharrack could profit from it plus no offence to Carharrack but GD could be crucial come end of the season as it did last season

We got out the blocks quickly when within 30 seconds of the restart we were awarded a penalty when Norfolk was taken out on the left hand side of the area. Prout stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to put us 7-2 up

Park then enjoyed a lot of the possession without really testing the keeper until a ball through the middle found Knuckey who with the outside of his boot found the top corner of the net for his second and parks eighth

Carharrack fair play to them were still trying to play football the right way but were unable to find that final ball to get a scoring opportunity

Park were always looking dangerous and the ninth came when the ball found Norfolk on the right and after beating two players found Grasso free in the middle to finish the move off to grab his fourth of the game.

The last goal came when good work on the left ended with a cross coming in which found Fenton to head home.

Despite seeing all these topics on refs recently, I have to say Kevin Bennetts had a cracking game in the middle and even apologised for not allowing advantage on one occasion

A big shout to Carharrack who never gave up for the whole 90 and for the brilliant post match hospitality, the best we've had away from home ever, that gd tempted to reverse our fixture to just get another spread like it again :) :) :)

Our Man of the Match was Grasso for his four goals but the club nearly had to rethink when Scorer from Carharrack beat him by 30 seconds in the Man of the Match downing contest ;)

You've always had a good set of youngsters down there, it's good to see.

I played on the right wing in the first half, I was a distance away from the throw in at the time so I'm not entirely sure what was said, but I was told the player wasn't rude and was simply asking where to take the throw, then, I believe rightfully so, he then went on to question the yellow card, to which he then saw a second. As I said, I'm not entirely sure what was said.

I must admit that unless you are made of tough stuff, as a female referee, I could imagine it could get quite intimidating to be the man in the middle (or in this case woman), so I suppose the cards are there to be a shield.

I think some of my teammates may disagree, some may agree, but I don't think she done a bad job. Our CB's first yellow card was once again questionable, but the red wasn't. You can't say what he said, but he knows that's and he had the courage to walk into our changing room and apologise to the team after the game. He knows he up. But he was frustrated, he'd just seen a player sent off for what we believe was an extremely weird and dubious situation. It's kinda understandable he was frustrated but I do think the ref should have had a bit of leniency and just spoke to him, told him to calm down etc.

I certainly won't criticise the ref, after all, we need one for next week. Apart from the red with the throw in situation, She got most decisions right and done a decent job, in my opinion; although I'm sure some may disagree.

It'll certainly make the next fixtures more interesting :)

Percy Stephens cup

Illogan 6 - 4 Hayle res (3-1 ht)

(Adam callaway 2, Matt Callaway 2, Gareth Pitt, Ryan treloar)

1st half

We took the lead after 5 mins through Adam and expected to go on and win comfortably but how we were wrong! Hayle never stopped running for the whole game showing loads of enthusiasm and desire to win putting us to shame and eventually got a deserved equalizer from Barnaby. We then struggled for 25 minutes trying to play football but being very sloppy in possession. Just before the end of the half and rather fortunately we scored 2 quick goals one from a corner by me when I was totally unmarked to nod in from 4 yards (easy when your not marked isn't Blakey ha ha!) and one from Ryan treloar.

2nd half

Much the same I'm afraid with us thinking we would win it comfortably and Hayle youngsters having other ideas. Usual team talk, keep it tight for 1st ten, and within 5 we were back to 3-2!!! We then managed to go 5-2 through matt and Adam callaway but again Hayle never stopped and I think they dragged it back to 5-4 before we eventually killed off the game to make it 6-4 through matt.

We weren't at our best yesterday with a few out but equally I thought Hayle played really well and never gave up which was great to see and any neutral watching wouldn't think they were 2 leagues below us and we wish them all the best for their season.

Div 2

Frogpool 5 Culdrose 2

Scorers - Vicary, James RIBERY Reburn 2, Alex Bawden 2.

Both teams had started to show some good recent form, with Frogpool unbeaten in the last four games with Culdrose winning their last four.

The game was a really good match with some strong tackles and great play. Frogpool went in front after a scambke in the Culdrose six yard box and Lewis Vicary instinctively stabbed the ball home through two Culdrose defenders from close range.

The second was scored from a great free kick from Alex Bawden from 28 yards out high in the corner to the keepers right. This came at a good time as Culdrose had threatened with a few chances.

James Ribery Reburn nearly scored an amazing over head kick from a deflected cross he made good contact but the Culdrose keeper made a comfortable save in the end.

Culdrose made it 2-1 after a free kick which was deflected from Nick Lasseters head and this took it past Lee Booker into the corner.

This gave Culdrose hope and they had a good spell in the game and made it two each when there number 7 headed into the corner from a corner. Culdrose were now going for the win. This seemed to work against them as it created more space for Fogpool. Culdrose had a few chances but the turning point was the third goal scored by Alex Bawden. The ball was played back to him on the edge of the box and he hit a looping cross/shot which the Culdrose keeper mis judged, the ball then just floated into the corner of the net. This was a big blow to them as they could of gone on to win, but they didn't as James Reburn tapped home after an unselfish cross from Vicary to make it 4-2.

The fifth was scored after Neil Nakata Carter amazingly juggled the ball of his chest did three keep ups and then played a reverse half volley pass which Reburn just smashed through the keeper to make it five.

A great win against a strong Culdrose side who will be hard to beat on their own ground. Their player manager played the game in the right way and their striker number nine played well, but ten legs had a good game against him.

A very modern approach by Colin Bennetts the ref, who let the game flow and explained his decisions.

Also a big well done to 2nd team keeper Adam Batchelor for refereeing the 2nd team game down at wendron when the referee failed to turn up, and didnt even charge wendron a match fee for doing that. Top guy who filled in to prevent his team from.not having a game.

Cheers Ben.

To be honest, I thought the Referee had a very good first half, then maybe knew he'd made a mistake in awarding our penalty, which gave way to a few stranger decisions in the second half. Your lad was still laughing after the game about how he won your penalty!

Glad that the game didn't rest on one or both of those decisions, and not a bad tackle or word spoken in the match

Mousehole Res 2 v 5 Marazion Res

A cup match against a team that are doing very well in Div 4 and on one of the worst pitches around was always going to be difficult but thankfully we had enough to get through to he next round. Playing against our old keeper there was a bit of banter going around before kick off. We started brightly and had a few chances before eventually taking the lead. Craig Rennard played in Matty Thomas down the right hand side of the box, he cut back on to his left foot and rifled it into the top corner from a tight angle. It wasn't long until we had doubled the advantage when Craig again became the provider, beating a couple of defenders before cutting the ball back to an unmarked Nicky Webber to side foot past Eric in goal. 2-0 we should have gone on to kill the game but let Mousehole back in it when we gave a free kick away just outside the box and their striker curled it around the wall and into the bottom corner. We continued to create chances but failed to make Eric work at all. Our third was a counter attack with a ball over the top which Matty out paced the defender, dropped his shoulder taking it past Eric and tapped it into the empty net. 3-1 seemed a fair reflection of the first half.

Second half and the first goal was always going to be vital. Mousehole scored it from a corner when their sub headed in unchallenged from a corner, all 6'8" of him. Strange why they didn't play him from the start as he seemed a decent player. Credit to Mousehole they put us under a bit of pressure especially from set pieces but we killed the game with about 5 mins left when Matty again out paced the back four and with Eric leaving his near post open, Matty just had to pass it past him. The last goal came in the final minute when Mark Hampton played in a corner which I headed passed Eric.

Difficult game on an awful pitch so glad to be in the next round. Game well reffed by Phil Cuthbert who barely had anything but a bit of talking to do. Same again next week against Mousehole but on our pitch so hopefully be able to play a bit more football.

fair reflection of the game Bluenose, the pitch wasn't as bad as i've seen it, but it wasn't great good luck in the next round, really unsure as to whether ill be playing next week, my legs in no fit state for anything good bit of banter before and after the game we at Mousehole wanted to make a game of it, and i think you got one!

cya next week!

Trelawny 2
Porthleven Reserves 1 (1) Storm 2 (0)
Storm scorers : Mitchell, Kellow
Not a great game, not the best display by us, with a couple of absentees already, the early withdrawal of skipper James Chilman weakened us further and the withdrawal of Ben Turner 5 mins before half time certainly didn't help. The home side took the lead through a disputed penalty, and while we created a few chances in the first half, the closest of which was a Turner long-ranger going narrowly wide, we found ourselves given very little time and space by a hard-working Porthleven side.
Whilst I felt we had the better of what football was played, the Porthleven game plan was more effective early in the 2nd half, with keeper Craig Allen pulling off a string of top draw saves to keep us in the game. Mitchell slotted in to the bottom corner after a fine run to create the opportunity and Kellow slipped the ball through the keeper's legs to secure the points.
Brief report this week as I believe the saying goes "Discretion is the better part of valour"
Good luck to Porthleven for the rest of the season.

The two red cards were actually within about 30 seconds of each other. ..and the first was not quite as simple asking where to take the throw from. Apart from all that Gwinear showed real character and grit at 3-1 down with 9 men and the nine men outplayed the 11! We played better when it was 11 v 11. But we scraped through in the end. Pleasing to see a man of the match performance from one of our 16 year olds. Certain to be two hard battles to come against you in the league You've always had a good set of youngsters down there, it's good to see.

Gwinears goals scored by Nick Troon and Mikey Catteral x2

I have to agree that I thought she reffed well on the whole. I have to agree that the first yellow was a bit harsh. I was right by the incident. ..although she did say to him that he had already been vwarned about taking throw in s from the wrong place. He then did say something to the ref ( dont think he swore) and guess after being yellow carded once you are inviting another for saying something . But you are obviously going to get decisions that not everyone agrees with in a game as we did not agree with some decisions, that happens week in week. .but she did a good job and fair play to her.

By the way mike catteralls second goal was quality

Our Man of the Match was Grasso for his four goals but the club nearly had to rethink when Scorer from Carharrack beat him by 30 seconds in the Man of the Match downing contest ;)

thought you were not playing for bthe foreseeable pete!

Newbridge Athletic 4-0 Stithians Reserves

Adam Smith

James Tregay

Josh Turner 2

Another 3 points, a 2nd clean sheet of the season and our 4th win in a row in the league. Newbridge dominated this game from start to finish and the game could have been alot more than four. Newbridge started well having several chances but it wasn't till about 15 minutes gone Newbridge got a corner. Josh Turner whipped in an excellent corner and Adam Smith with a bullet header put it in the top corner to take the lead 1-0. More chances came and went but Newbridge then made it 2-0 with a throw-in in our own half from Ben Montgomery going straight through to James Tregay who beat the defence and the goalkeeper to slot the ball home to double our advantage. We then had one ruled out from another Josh Turner corner and Craig Helgesen headed into the net but the ref deemed he had his hand on the defenders back and ruled the goal out. Newbridge continued the pressure on Stithians who failed to have an attempt at goal in the first half leaving me with very little to do. We then made it 3-0, Kyle Jones chipped the ball over the top, the defender getting a touch on his head but went over the top of him and Josh Turner run in took it round the keeper and put it into the far corner. Half-Time 3-0.

Second half Newbridge started a bit sluggish but Stithians still failed to have a shot on goal. Further chances come for Newbridge and Josh Turner made it 4-0 with the keeper off his line he chipped it over the top of him in an identical goal he scored against Camborne Athletic. Stithians finally got a attempt on goal when a corner came in and was headed directly at me for an easy save. Then it could of been 5-0 when Alex Skelton put the ball across the box Craig Helgesen shot was then blocked on the line by a defender. Another chance came with another excellent cross, Jonathan Wright went for a diving header but only just failed to get his head onto it. Josh almost scored his hat-trick but the goal was ruled out again from being offside after James Tregay's effort was saved. Full-Time 4-0

M.O.M Craig Banner and Matt Montgomery who both had excellent games, but due to an equal amount of votes for m.o.m it was tied. So for a bit of a laugh they had a shoot-out to decide who won. Both having a shot saved, both skying one over the bar, both scored two and then took one with their eyes shut. After those two hilarious penalties it was tied so m.o.m was shared.

Good game of football. Many thanks to Pendeen for coming back to the Social Club for a Drink! ... Safe to say Liam wont be forgetting that goal for a while. Martyns was also top draw. Good luck to Pendeen for the rest of the season.

The laws provide that the restart in this case is a contested drop ball. But nowadays the sporting thing to do is for one team to kick the ball back to the other keeper which is a much better way of doing it.

In this situation when all concerned believed the sporting option was adopted then those who were unsporting should be cautioned for unsporting behavior and an indirect free kick to the other team.
