Premier Sixes
JJ JONES DUCHY FOOTBALL LEAGUE Premier side St.Columb Major weakened by injuries succumbed to a 7-2 defeat in the second round of the KMD Developments Knock Out Cup. Their keeper was late arriving and they were already trailing to a Lee Ashton goal when he joined the game after ten minutes. Major equalised from a Casey Hawkey penalty in the 27th minute, but straight from the kick off, Lostwithiel broke and James Hutchings restored their lead. Graham Rule stretched the visitors lead ten minutes after the restart and Hutchings lobbed the keeper two minutes later to put them in control. Tom Ball followed up a rebound from a fierce shot to reduce the arrears on the hour, but again from the restart Lostwithiel regained their advantage with a Ben Wilkinson goal. Hutchings completed his hat trick in the 75th minute. Major battled back with Aaron Talbot hitting a post and two shots being cleared off the line. Wilkinson completed the scoring in the 81st minute as the visitor’s superior finishing and fine display by veteran keeper Bill Davies ruled the day The tie of the day had to be the Torpoint Athletic clash with neighbours Saltash United. This was a fine game of football. Saltash won through 3-2 with Tony Jane hitting a hat trick and they also missed a last minute penalty. Torpoint replied through Luke Britzman and Rob Edwards. Another first division side toppled premier opposition as St.Dominick beat St.Stephen 6-1. St.Stephen started brighter with Charlie Stone giving them the lead. Kian Armitage volleyed St.Dominick level with Frazer Ferris them putting them ahead. Scott Coombe made it three with a great individual goal with Adam Keith heading the fourth. Corey Nesbitt produced a superb cross for Coombe to score his second and Coombe then rounded off the scoring with his hat trick goal. Padstow United were given a very tight game before beating Sticker 1-0. Kyle Tippett scored the only goal in the first half. Padstow also hit a post and saw a shot spectacularly saved. But in the second half they stopped playing and struggled to keep out their lower division opponents before securing their place in the next round. Third Division leaders North Hill had reality check with a six nil home beating by higher division Holywell/Cubert Athletic in their second round Bodmin Sports Trophies League Cup tie. The home team were not at the races as Simon Holmes hit a hat trick, Peter Bruce a brace and James Nettleton scored once to complete the visitors tally. Class told as LC Phoenix crushed Roche 10-1 to progress to the next round. Harry Marsh and Paul Daymond both hit hat tricks with Bradley Stokes adding a brace. Josh Barron and Darren Webber completed the rout. Callington Town proved too strong for Mevagissey winning 7-1. Kevin Pethick hit a hat trick and Liam Bryant a brace. Ollie Turner and an own goal completed the home tally with Ryan Lavery scoring the visitor’s consolation. Gerrans & St.Mawes United had to go to extra time before beating Tintagel 3-2. Charlie Jones scored a brace, which was reciprocated by Tintagel’s Shaun Keeble as the game ended two all at ninety minutes. Penalties were looming when Jones struck in the last minute of extra time to complete his hat trick and put his side through. St.Breward’s miserable season continued with a 3-0 home defeat by fifth division High Street. This was a sloppy performance by the home team. Karl Croft missed a chance from the spot to put them ahead, and they then fell behind to a Stuart Kesson-Smith goal. Dale Gilbert’s penalty put the visitor’s further ahead before half time with Jake Mansell scoring their third in the second half. St.Cleer reserves as expected were too powerful for St.Newlyn East reserves and won 9-2. Zak Peel scored four goals with Liam Donaghy adding a brace. Kyle Tamblyn, Brad Cole and Rob Cole completed the home tally with Chris Symons and Alex Rice replying. Pelynt reserves collapsed in the second half as they crashed 0-8 at home to North Petherwin reserves in a Reserve Team Cup quarter-final. Lee Robinson scored a hat trick with Glenn Charnock and Dan Warring hitting a brace apiece. Liam Denne completed the rout. Godolphin Atlantic reserves are through to the semi-finals after toppling higher division Grampound reserves. Kevin McHugh scored the game’s only goal. St.Newlyn East stay in the Premier Division title hunt after a goal from Mickey Thompson in the second half gave them victory over Lamerton. Calstock improved their position near the foot of Division One with a 5-1 win over St.Mawgan. Jon Wild scored a brace with Mike Brown, and own goal and Berryn Phillips completing the scoring. The bottom two picked up a point apiece from a one all draw as St.Dennis made the long journey to Edgcumbe. Jay Boyle scored the home goal with Courtney Rowe scoring for St.Dennis. Boscastle picked up a second win of the season in Division Two with Matt Pethick scoring both goals their 2-1 win. Kieren Jasper replied for Gunnislake. Leaders Foxhole stretched their lead with Jamie Robinson scoring a hat trick in their 3-1 win at Week St.Mary. Rob Pearce replied for the hosts. There was just one game in Division Three with St.Neot finally finding their scoring touch and picking up a first win of the season. They stunned Delabole hitting eight without reply. Connor Stone and Darren Chapman scored a brace apiece with Will Stapleton, Ryan Chapman, Nathan Berry and Matt Lorenz completing their tally. Wadebridge Town are starting to find some good form in Division Four. They easily beat Pensilva 6-1 with Paul Dingle and Aaron White both hitting hat tricks. Marc Tuck scored the visitors consolation. Dean Dingle scored a hat trick as Royal Par won 5-1 at Boscastle reserves to reverse a recent home defeat to the same team. Further goals from Krztsztop Kruszewski and Cezary Kiraga consolidated fourth place in Division Five with this excellent result. Rob Nute replied for Boscastle. There was no stopping St.Merryn who went back on top of the division after a crushing 8-0 win at Tregrehan Mills. It was a learning experience for the home side who couldn’t compete with the visitors all round play. Luke Worrall struck a hat trick with Ryan Brown (2), Mike Shearer, Ashley Rescorla and Anthony Murt completing the scoring. In a delayed Cornwall Junior Cup second round tie, Veryan hammered Southgate Seniors 8-1. The home side were in good form and blew their opponents away with Craig Phillips, Martin Bishop and Liam Cope scoring a brace apiece. Bobby Lee Johns and Martin O’Callaghan completed the scoring. St.Minver won the other outstanding tie beating Grampound 2-1. Ryan Butler and Ben Beesley scored for St.Minver. Columbia
Biscovey 1 Pelynt 6 in Duchy Premier. Biscovey battled well with a bare 11 and players with injuries. They took the lead near the break when Pelynt's defence went to sleep but the visitors levelled 5 minutes later when Anthony Harman pounced onto a rebound off the crossbar. Pelynt took the lead early in the second half through a disputed Liam Jones penalty and Billy Tedder Hart put the tie beyond Biscovey with a well taken lob over the keeper from 25 yards. Jones scored another from a tight angle before Harman scored Pelynt's second penalty. Jake Thomas completed the scoring when he tapped in a Tedder Hart shot that was parried by the home keeper. A good game played in the right spirit and, if endeavour counts for anything, Biscovey could still fight their way off the bottom of the table. AVFC4
St Minver 2 1 Grampound Played some great football and kept a high intensity throughout against our higher league opponents. Grampound nearly took the lead after a couple minutes but from then on we looked the more dangerous side. MOM: Jason Northcott
