Braunton have Peninsula League Inspection

Recommended Posts

From the North Devon Journal

BRAUNTON will apply for promotion to the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League for next season.

Representatives from the league, including secretary Phil Hiscox, visited the club last week.

With four senior teams in the North Devon League and a thriving youth section, Braunton have decided the time is right to step up.

To meet league standards before the official ground inspection in April they only need to carry out minimal work. A hard path needs to be laid from the car park to the dugouts and a buzzer added from the referee's room to the players' changing rooms.

Applications for promotion must be sent to the Peninsula League in March. To secure their place, Braunton must finish in the top two of the North Devon League Premier Division although they can afford to finish lower if Appledore, Bideford or Ilfracombe Town all reserve teams are above them.

Would they go straight into the prem or would they go into the East/West?

North Devon FL promotes to either East or West (not Premier). With Appledore in East it seems the most likely division. Brixham have not dropped a point in South devon and seem destined for promotion to East also.

Has to be the East hasn't it. What a journey that would be for Penzance.

All I said was only one team can get promoted. I didn't say what position they finish.

SWPL rules state they can only take one team from each of it's feeder leagues which means in any season, one from the Combo and one from the ECPL can be promoted if team(s) from each apply and finish in the top three unless one or more of those teams are reserve sides when the fourth placed team might be considered.

The East & West are both allowed 18 clubs. So depending on who applies and qualifies for promotion will determine what happens at season end. My belief is that no club will be relegated from West cos only 2 clubs (1 from Combo and 1 from ECPL) can be promoted making 18 in total. However teams can be moved from East to West or v.v. which can muddy the waters. The League committee will not make any formal announcements until the season has finished and all the facts are known. You cannot second guess the situation.
