AVFC4
Holywell 0 3 St Minver Top result for us today. Always know what to expect away at Holywell on a compact pitch in windy conditions. We weathered anything thrown against and in truth could have had a hatful more. Not many sides will come away from here with a clean sheet so delighted. Rubber Duck
Foxhole 6 Premier Sixes 1. Day to forget for us. Can't come to a place like FH with no keeper. Though they wanted it more than us and we carried to many players on the day. Reality check for us. Only positive we kept the scoring run going! Tony R
Pensilva 4-1 Torpoint Pensilva played with the wind in the 1st half and went 1-0 up after 84 seconds through a great strike from Neil Kennedy, Martyn Putt hit the post midway in the half with a volley from a corner but apart from that pensilva struggled to break down Torpoints defence. Torpoint Equalised on 51 minutes through Joe Rothwell with a tidy finish. Pensilva went back in front with in a minute of the restart through a good volley from Matt Carter-Brown. Sam Rogers then captialised on a poor back pass on 62 minutes to have a simple tap in. Its was 4-1 on 65 minutes when Jack Podmore fired into the top corner from 20 yards. The young goal keeper for Torpoint made some great saves in the remainder of the match to keep the score down.
Michael Rabone
St. Teath 1 - 6 St. Merryn Three goals in either half helped table-topping St. Merryn to record a sixth successive win to maintain their 100% start to the season. Yet it was St.Teath who made the more promising start to the game, carefully marshalling their area to build occasional counter-attacks as St. Merryn sought to capitalise with the weather conditions in their favour. The visitors inevitably clicked into their groove, finding the kind of form that has helped the North Cornwall side to an unbeaten run; top scorer Luke Worrall was unfortunate not to convert after a fine run had carved open the home defence and when the match official waved play on following a tight offside call, Worrall could only find the side netting as he dragged his shot wide. St. Teath were also making inroads on the flanks but could not find the right delivery to put the visitors under any real pressure. St. Merryn's possession finally told when a high cross from Craig Allen was spilled by the goalkeeper under pressure from Worrall, who neatly hooked an inviting pass into the path of his grateful strike partner Richard Hughes, who nodded home from a couple of yards for a deserved opener. Despite looking comfortable and having the misfortune of an outrageous dipping volley from Ben Curtis hitting the crossbar, a five minute lapse from the visitors almost changed the dynamics of the game as the hosts drew level in relatively fortuitous circumstances. A hopeful long ball was misjudged by central defender Curtis and a moment of indecision allowed a smart early strike from twenty-five yards to wrong-foot St. Merryn goalkeeper Ben Humber as he sough to recover his ground. Within a matter of minutes a similar scenario occurred with very different consequences as the resulting strike was blasted high and wide. It proved to be a momentary lapse as St. Merryn upped the tempo to secure a healthy half-time advantage courtesy of another two goals from the strike partnership of Worrall and Hughes. St. Merryn edged back in front when neat work on the left from Josh Dark resulted in Hughes picking out Worrall at the near post to slot home with an instinctive finish and the third goal was of particular note as Hughes chased down a seemingly lost cause as Worrall's cross appeared to be running out of play. Hughes neatly turned his marker in a tight space in the corner, cutting along the dead-ball line to bear down on goal, dispatching a measured finish at the near post to give the visitors some breathing space with a wonderful individual contribution. Despite the slight disadvantage of the weather conditions in the second half, a relatively comfortable win was secured by three neatly worked team goals, despite the impressive Hughes being substituted at the break. St. Teath opened the half in optimistic fashion and could have easily reduced the deficit when the visiting goalkeeper's impeccable kicking momentarily escaped him, allowing a clear opening that Humber was more than equal to as he neatly turned a goal bound strike over the crossbar. St. Merryn pushed on and finally had the breathing space they required as a neat team move resulted in the energetic and hard-working Mike Shearer smashing home a lovely rising finish at the near post after some great football from the visitors, with the industrious midfield pairing of Lewis Canfield and Ant Murt at the heart of St. Merryn's attacking play. Humber was called into action as he made the save of the game to deny a powerful long-range strike with an instinctive and full-length save whilst captain Tristan Brown was putting in a man of match performance, marshalling the St. Merryn back four with new addition Michael Rabone featuring as a second half substitute at left-back - and it was the debutant who could have added to the margin when he somehow managed to break through the St. Teath defence with a speculative run from the half-way line, only for his finish to lack the composure that was required. In a brief moment of conversy, St. Merryn had their penalty appeals waved away as Ryan Brown drove goalwards after a flowing move from the league leaders, with the match official concluding that no contact had been made. Worrall then put the icing on the cake in a fine five minute spell, calmly converting two very similar goals from close range for another hat-trick following generous assists from the impressive Shearer and lively second-half substitute Calvin Powell to give the visitors six goals to secure an impressive sixth win of the season courtesy of a cohesive team performance. Premier Sixes
JJ JONES DUCHY FOOTBALL LEAGUE Lamerton fully deserved their Premier Division victory at St.Stephen. They took an 11th minute lead through Richard Searle, and were gifted a second in the 41st minute when a bad goal kick fell kindly for the Lamerton striker Alex Mayne to fire into the net. St.Stephen were better after the break and James Truscott was unlucky with three powerful shots from distance, but found the Lamerton keeper in top form as they held on comfortably for a 2-0 win. Leaders Saltash United maintained their 100 percent start after coming from two down at half time to win 5-2 at St.Columb Major. The hosts took a first minute lead when Darren Farquhar’s cross was deflected in for an own goal. Dom Roberts was sent off for retaliation in the 20th minutes, but numbers were levelled fifteen minutes as a Saltash player was dismissed for pulling back a player. Major doubled their lead a minute before half time with a cracking shot from Alex Bicknell. The second half started with Saltash camped in their opponents end as the efforts of the first half seemed to have drained the home players. They pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute when Jason Rid punched a corner into his own goal. Two minutes later Tony Jane restored parity. Ryan Tetley put the visitors ahead for the first time in the 70th minute with Lewis Fedrick putting the game out of reach. Tetley wrapped up the points with his second near the end. Pensilva had a fine 4-1 victory over Torpoint Athletic to stay in the mix. They took the lead after 84 seconds when good work down the left wing from Matt Carter-Brown let Neil Kennedy in to score. Some woeful finishing kept the score at 1-0 at the break. Torpoint came out all guns blazing and equalised six minutes after the restart from Tom Rothwell. Pensilva restored their lead within a minute following good play by Sam Rogers and Jack Podmore, Carter-Brown volleyed home. Rogers pounced on a bad back pass to score the third with Podmore hitting a thunderous strike into the top corner to seal the win. Altarnun played superbly as they took the unbeaten record of St.Dominick in the big Division One clash winning clearly 3-0. They took the lead straight from the kick off within ten seconds when Danny Moore put the ball over the top for Stuart Cole to steer home. They doubled the advantage in the 10th minute when Wayne Francome put Sam Smith in to go round the keeper. A convincing victory was completed ten minutes from time when Smith pounced on a defensive error to score his second. Polperro put a dismal run behind them to complete a fine 2-0 win over Padstow United. Liam Faulkner gave them the lead near the end of the first half with Colin Wilson bagging a penalty in the second half. St.Mawgan won their first league game of the season beating fellow strugglers St.Dennis 3-2. Spencer Hassell and Stuart Harris were the home scorer’s with Dan Menhenitt and Aydan Rundle replying for St.Dennis. Lostwithiel were trailing 1-0 at half time at home to Calstock and heated words were said in the dressing room at half time. It certainly worked as they scored three quick goals after half time as they ran out 7-1 winners. Kevin Morcom levelled with Ben Wilkinson putting them ahead. Ben Carr, James Hutchings, Lee Ashton and Josh Cook put them well ahead before Wilkinson completed the scoring with his second. Boscastle picked up their first win of the season beating Gerrans & St.Mawes United 4-3 to ignite their season in Division Two. Jamie Burnett scored a brace with Sam Haddy and an own goal completing the home tally. Gerrans replied with goals from James Fryer, Andy Harris and Andy Ayre. Foxhole bounced back from their first defeat of the season last week to trounce previously unbeaten Premier Sixes 6-1. Foxhole were as good this week as bad last. Sixes turned up without a recognised keeper and where made to pay as they gifted Foxhole some of the softest goals they will score this season. Ben Bould scored the opener in the 3rd minute and doubled the lead ten minutes later. Foxhole’s third came from a tame free kick from outside the box fired home by Shane Kibell which dribbled under the keeper. Bould completed his hat trick five minutes before half time as the hosts ended the half as they had begun. Sixes cause wasn’t help when top scorer Probert was forced off the field injured before they break. Sixes pulled one back after the break from Josh Mitchell after a corner, but Foxhole went on to score twice more. Gary Camps scored their fifth from a volley three minutes after the visitor’s goal with Jamie Robinson completing the scoring with another soft effort from distance. St.Minver take over at the top after a 3-0 win at Holywell/Cubert Athletic. Jason Northcott scored a brace with Mike Kempthorne adding the other goal. With a strong wind blowing up the pitch both St.Breward and Sticker found it difficult to control the ball in the conditions. The visitors had the greater possession but were unable to create many clear cut chances. On the half hour they did take the lead when a slip by a home defender was seized upon by Ryan Hale who rounded the keeper to score from an acute angle. With the wind after the break Sticker dominated but a combination of poor finishing and frantic defence kept the scorer to a single goal. The visitors did manage to double their tally late on when Zak Smith-Brokenshire ran through to score from close range to complete a 2-0 win. Welcome Inn stay top of Division Three after an excellent 6-1 win at previously unbeaten Queens Rangers. Peel and Donaghy added a goal apiece in the second half with Kai Pearce scoring a consolation between those two strikes. There was another high scoring game at Gorran with the home team sharing eight goals with Wadebridge Town. Gorran were 3-1 in the first half with goals from Peter Kirby, James Rogers and Dave Jones. Wadebridge levelled by half time and were good value for the draw. Kirby got his second for Gorran’s second half goal while the visitor’s goals came from Ladislav Andrashazi, Josh Carpenter, Aaron White and James Cox.
