Sad News about Sid Thomas

Im really surprised some one has not already posted this.

Sid Thomas, a well renowned and highly respected local ref has passed away after long battle with cancer.

Best wishes to his family at this very sad time.

A real character on and off the pitch.

A great loss to local football & sport in general. A referee you could talk to ( & he'd talk back ), you could have a laugh with, would always stay & have a few drinks with us at Porthleven, & the red hankerchief in the top pocket will long be remembered.

A top top man.

Very sorry. I will always remember him as the referee who certified me as fit to run the line and for his spontaneous addition of the rugby ten yard rule at free kicks if there was dissent. There could only ever be one Sid. Condolences to his family.

Would like to send our condolences from everyone at mousehole afc,one of the great characters of local football and will always remember as a mouthy teenager Sid calling me over and expecting to get booked but as I walked towards him he would eventually go to his top pocked and not produce the yellow you were expecting but a handkerchief to blow his nose,it was clever refereeing because you knew if you did it again you would be booked,rip Sid one of the good ones

Sad news indeed , not the biggest of guys but one of the largest characters , top guy who was respected by all.

would agree with all the above comments a top ref who had respect from players and he respected players if you had sid for a ref you knew you were in for a good afternoons football , when at longrock [many moons ago ] can remember a player kicking the ball away ,down the other side of the field ,said player was sent by sid to get ball both sides were laughing as the player had to run 100 yards to retreive the ball ,when he got back the player threw the ball towards sid ,who had held his hand out sid then made the player pick the ball up and put it in his hand both teams were now in hysterics and the player could not have lokked any sillier job done and he did not even have to book him great ref great man

Terrible shame, one of football's really good guys. Had his own style and will be sorely missed. I remember him running the line in games and he was nearer the 18 yard box than the touchline.

very sad news we played down pendeen sid reffed gary braunton clean through shot middle of the goal hit the garage behind sid did not give it when asked about the hole in the net he replied there is a lotes of holes in the net then stood there listening for comments from touchline great reff always had a drink and a chat after game all the best from penryn to sids family

Great ref and great man,last saw him at the yacht about a year ago.He had,nt changed, still the same old Sid ,still had time to tell me about when he booked me many years ago....RIP Sid.....Condolences to his family
