ECPL AGM

The forthcoming ECPL AGM will have a number of problems to overcome as they prepare for next season. With the constitution able to have two division of 16 teams each the league will have to look at next seasons constitution.

At the end of last season Sticker took promotion to the SWPL which left 15 teams – Bodmin Town and St Stephens Borough were relegated with Liskeard Athletic and Millbrook promoted from Division One leaving 15 teams to contest the Premier Division.

With no teams coming up from the Duchy League – Division One started the season with 15 teams but quickly lost Holsworthy Reserves who pulled out leaving 14 teams to contest the season.

With Bude Town taking promotion to the SWPL this will leave the Premier Division with 14 teams. Probus have already stated they wish to pull out of the Premier Division to go into Division One which will leave 13 teams. The rules state that two teams will take relegation from the Premier Division – if this is the case then the Premier Division will either use Probus as a relegated team which means the bottom club Lanreath will go down with them or relegate another. In which case the Premier Division will be left with 12 teams. This will mean four teams being promoted from Division One – or will it as they could decide not to relegate any teams except Probus.

Division One was reduced to 14 teams last season when Holsworthy Reserves resigned. It has also been revealed that St Stephen have opted to drop down to the Duchy League so if four teams go up and two come down then Division One will be left with 11 teams allowing for a possible five new teams. St Austell, Fowey and Mevagissy have applied to join from the Duchy League and it is understood that Holsworthy Reserves are looking to be voted back in along with Bude Town Reserves. Although if the Premier Division only relegates Probus then Division One will only need three new teams.

The circumstances that has happened this season with teams pulling out teams being promoted teams wanting to drop down everyone who attends that meeting will understand to sort two division of 16 however they work out who to promote or relagate. Whether or not there is a rule in place! It seems like common sense. The premier division consists of alot of sides from the very far east of cornwall an some even in devon! Travelling has to be accounted for. At the end of the day at this level noone should be getting paid to play and for local villages its hard enough to get a good side to compete let alone travel so far to play!

I agree with andy at this agm vote to fill both leagues with the right amount of teams!! And Vote in who ever needs to be in each league!! And from now on the relagtion an promotion will all work out as both leagues will have the right number of teams in!!
