New Forest
Padstow united wrapped up the Division 2 title with a 3-0 away win at Lanreath yesterday. In a hard fought game Padstow scored 3 second half goals which doomed the home side to Division 3 next season. It was not all plain sailing for Padstow and Lanreath belied there position at the foot of the table as they battled hard for the points in their fight to avoid relegation. Having had the majority of the play in the first half Padstow found the home defence hard to break down with the home keeper denying Johnny Murt and Rob Rowe with 2 excellent saves. The second half began with the home side with the wind to their backs and they pressed hard for the first 15 minutes of the half and only 2 great saves by Simon Northcott denied them. Padstow looked dangerous on the counter attack and substitute Sean Blows fired them in front from a tight angle after good work from Jake Charles. Then Simon Press was introduced to the game after a long lay off through injury and after some neat interplay with Paul Banks his through ball found Kyle Tippett who cooly lobbed the keeper from 15 yards. Padstow wrapped the game up when Russ McOwen played in Johnny Murt down the left and his cross found Paul Banks at the back post with a simple header to make in 3-0. A great way to secure the title and a big thank you to Lanreath for their welcome and the sportsmanship they showed at the end of the game. Paul Collings of the Duchy League was on hand to present the trophies. A fantastic season for Padstow United and as their manager I would just like to thank all the players for their hard work and commitment they have given to me and the club. 3 more games left with the last one being our Cup Final against our local rivals St Merryn.
