NEWQUAY 1-7 MARAZION

Mrs and mum in law decided to go and have a look at Mitchell car boot to pick up their designer clothes for a quid a pop so me and the boy ventured over to St.Columb Minor to watch title favourites Marazion take on the young and talented Newquay lads. To be fair to the hosts they tried to play the right way and at times strung together some lovely passages of play keeping the ball well on the tricky bone hard surface and have definitely got three or four players that will have decent futures at a much better level. In all honesty they were blown away with the power and pace of Marazion who are strong all over the pitch and although pushed hard by three quality teams in our league this season they are the best team in division 5 in my opinion and if it wasn't for the 9 points deduction would have the league almost in the bag by now. They have two superb forwards in Liam Mooney and man of the match Matt Thomas who took his hat-trick well and put one on a plate for Liam and two great wide players in Sanjay and Craig providing service all day. A strong midfield with Steve Hunt always looking to provide a killer pass for the lively front men supported by the hard working Dale Vigus who slotted away a nice first half penalty. A pretty rock solid defence only breeched when a cross dropped in off the far post with the strong wind which was no fault of Eric in goal and probably would have beaten any keeper in the world!!! Nice to see my old mates Steve and Paul the visitors management team and you can see the side has got a great team spirit which would be enhanced by those two for sure, great guys. So all in all an entertaining days footie in the Newquay sun well reffed by as this forum knows him by Mr B Manning who belied his 70 years of age with a great performance never far from the play, kept it flowing when possible and a ref you can talk to and knows respect works both ways between players and officials, looked like there is a few good seasons in him yet! Wish I could say the same for myself!!! :-(.

Newquay 4ths 1-7 Marazion Res

After Thursdays shambollick display we came back with a bang. It's never good seeing your opponents and realising they are half your age!!!! We scored early on when Matty Thomas beat his marker and then rifled past the keeper. We were then awarded a penalty when Matty was upended in the box and Dale Vigus stepped up to scored his 6th penalty of the season. Up to this point Newquay had played attractive football and with two lively forwards were always dangerous on the break. They got their rewards when following a throw, the ball was crossed into our box and with the wind the ball looped over Eric in goal and nestled into the back of the net. Rappo you said Eric wasn't to blame for the goal?!!!!! We always blame Eric for the goals.....He would be disappointed if we didn't!!!! So it was your fault Eric...!!!! Within a few minutes we restored our two goal advantage when the Newquay keeper failed to hold a shot and in a crowded six yard box Matty blasted home. With half time approaching 3-1 would have been a good result but when a free kick was played into the Newquay box Adam Caul decided to push Liam Mooney to the floor and power in a header past the static keeper. 4-1 at half time was a fair reflection of our possession and chances.

Second half started the same as the first with an early goal. The ball was crossed from the right and beat everyone except Liam at the far post who hammered the ball in the roof of the net from close range. Our sixth was almost the same as the fifth but the cross came from the left with Sanjay Vadgama's left peg. The keeper came but failed to hold the ball and it rolled to Craig Rennard at the far post who had the simplest tap in from 1 yard. Sorry Craig not easy to make your goal sound any better!!!!! Matty completed his hat trick and our seventh when he out paced the Newquay back line before sliding the ball under the advancing keeper.

All in all this was a solid performance against a team that play football the right way and are a credit to their manager. I am sure that they will be one of the favourites for promotion next season if they stay together. As for us we look forward the Ludgvan on Tuesday and hope Gwinear can do us a favour against Camborne Park. The game was well reffed by one of our more matured refs who kept communicating with both teams, which is all you can ask for, although I don't think he had too much to deal with.

Eric Sleeman

Jason O'Sullivan

Adam Caul 1

Adam Martin James Burlingham

Scott James

Craig Rennard 1

Dale Vigus 1

Steve Hunt

Sanjay Vadgama

Matty Thomas 3 Mark Hampton

Liam Mooney 1

MOM - Adam Caul : Solid at the back against good forwards and scored a good header.

Storm 2 - 2 Penryn 3rds

Good game: Penryn grabbing a last gasp equalizer with virtually the last kick of the game. I would say they were not at their best or at full strength today, but having said that we feel we should have put the game to bed much earlier and left ourselves open to the draw as a result.

I won't say much more as the 'gaffer' likes to tell the tale of the game.

Storm's first goal was alright apparently.

Trelawney Premier

Threemilestone v St Agnes, Boring 0-0!

Att 24

Agreed. Rock hard pitch so the ball was bouncing all over the place. Ben Pitts, Alex Walker and Lewis Keveren played well at the back for Aggie whilst Tom Hills, Brandon Light, Dave Goundry and Spencer Hassel came closest to scoring for the away side.

Well reffed by the guy who looks like Paddy McGuiness. No likey no lighty!

gulval 3 holmans 1

first of all thanks to gulval for arranging the game on a nice small pitch at penzance.this was just what the young athletic holmans team wanted against the youngsters in your team.

on to the game first half holmans could and should have put the game to bed, having enough clear chances to win the game.but to qoute an old northern saying "if you don't put the ball in the onion bag you don't win the game"half time 0-0

2nd half.

gulval come out to play and holmans stay god knows were, but!! after about 10 mins we score at last. phil running through to a pass behind the defence and placing it under the keeper.guess what gulval the buggers equalised within 2 mins.after a couple of tacticle changes by holmans we went 2-1 down and then in the heat and youthfull exuberance holmans conceded another goal right at the end of the game.

what i would like to say is that on another thread it talks about characters today i met two very big characters in local football.gulval are a strong junior club and in rhondda and coopsie their future is safe even if spurs scored a late equaliser :P

i must also mention the ref.only 17 but did a very good job,and he was being assessed.weldone young man you have a bright future in the game.

could not beleive that penzance did not open the club after the game? oh well the alex made some money instead :drink:

Percy Stevens cup 3rd round

Carharrack 1-2 Stithians

On a very bobbly pitch stithians came out the blocks quick testing home keeper Adam Matthews who made a couple good saves and after 20 minutes stithians took the lead after Johnathan wright was caught in possession in the centre circle and a through ball was played to treve bale? Who slotted it into the bottom corner 0-1, stithians continued to play some good football and nearly scored again but a good save from Matthews denied them but in the 37th minute stithians scored again after a cross from the right allowed former carharrack player Ben cox to slam home in the corner, 0-2. Then carharrack woke up a bit and started playing some football with James tregay nearly going through but the keeper was out quickly to pounce and just before half time a throw in from Kyle jones was controlled by liam bray who turned and shot just wide 0-2 half time

Second half

Stithians again started brightly without creating any real chances and then carharrack stepped it up and created some chances first a one two between tregay and bray which tregay smashed straight at the keeper who made a good save, stithians looked dangerous on the break and nearly extended their lead but were denied after a shot was smashed against the cross bar, carharrack nearly pulled one back after brays free kick narrowly went wide, shortly after that stithians right back Steven crook went on a run and found him self in the box but couldn't finish it! Carharrack scored in bizarre fashion when a ball was played to bray who volleyed the ball which was blocked by the defender everybody thought it was going over and out for a corner but just before mike carter was going to blow for a corner the ball bounced on the line and hit the roof of the net! 1-2. After that it was end to end stuff and Johnathan wright had a shot saved for carharrack and carharrack nearly equalised but bray was denied by the goalkeeper making a good save. stithians pushed on looking for a third and it disnt come and right near the end the ball skimmed the arm of the stithians centre back and carharrack screamed for a penalty but it wasn't given and stithians held on.

Good game played in good spirits well refeered by mike carter

All the best for the season to stithians good luck in the next round.

Think it's a bit harsh that you have a cup semi v Helston tomorrow to play as well.

St Day 0 v 7 Rangers,

As the score suggests pretty one sided affair, St Day by all accounts struggling to put a side together for this one. From whistle to whistle it was all Rangers and we should have been out of sight in 20 minutes. However over and over we failed to find the net. That however didn't continue and 4-0 at the half was a fair reflection of the game.

Second half more of the same, we pulled off both forwards and give a run out to a couple of are young lads. Both of which added to the score sheet. 0-7 at the final whistle, job done.

Thanks to St Day for the game and Thanks to the Ref who didn't have a real decision to make all day.

Well done to titans from all at cury fc for a great season so far.

The usual Saturday morning ring round happened to ensure we had enough players. Outplayed throughout by the best team titans number 9(Jamie cooper) I think was the class act on the field by far. Few special mentions for a couple of our players today firstly marge usual centre midfielder played his first ever game in goal and did ok considering and Adam wenn right winger playing his first game a centre half thought he looked strong and composed looking like a conversion to right back for next season. Onwards and upwards 4 more games to go then we can enjoy the end of season party before we work hard in the summer to ensure cury fc are back at the correct end of a league table.
