Friday Night Football

Holman Sports Club 1-1 St Ives Town

Att 35

Holman Goalscorer Craig Williams

I've been a bit of a grumpy bear the last couple of weeks with a mood similar to coming home from a walk in tehidy woods to find someone's broken into my house smashed my favourite chair eaten my dinner (porridge breakfast of champions) and then found them Kipping in my bed!!!! During the last match I'd chucked a few cabbage patch kids about dumped my split football boots at the side of the pitch (6 games to go and they break grrrrr) and vowed not to play again........3 days later at 5pm I'm informed by Tasky that because some idiot (me) has arranged a Friday night fixture we are short of a team and only had 8 players due to Tarik performing his best Tom Cruise impression down witherspoons pouring cocktails, phils off saving lives, aarons on a black mascara application course and all the under 18's have got a long standing commitment to hang about on a street corner drinking thunderbird for the evening to keep Cambornes reputation intact! so ringing around we managed to grab Dani, eggy and the mighty wall himself hammers from the 2nds and I'm sporting a nice new pair of Dunlop specials to get me through to the end of the season!!!

Lovely sunny evening at Blaythorne for the last home game of the season. Luckily the cricket had been working on the pitch and cut the grass and rolled it....just a shame the boundary only goes halfway across our pitch so the half nearest the ball stealing trees was still a bit 'lumpy'. With a scrabbled together side and Ben deciding to try out his Jose mourinio impression from the sideline and put hammers in goal we looked pretty solid....Eggy was getting a bit of stick from the st ives left winger for his ginger tribute to burt Reynolds I didn't have the heart to tell him movember finished 5 months ago as he seems quite happy looking like a 70's porn star!

Remarkably we started doing something we've found quite difficult all season which was get the round white thing from one green shirted player to another using a new groundbreaking technique called passing! This seemed to work quite well for us and much better then our usual method of running after the opposition having given the ball away technique! Hammers was looking solid in goal...to be fair he could stand anywhere and look solid. We did think he may have killed the st Ives forward who I will refer to as 'the one that's not jowan' when he came out to punch the ball from a corner and I swear I thought he had missed the ball and connected with 'the one that's not jowans' head...thankfully although lying in a crumpled heat he brushed himself off and carried on. We managed to miss a couple of cast iron chances to go 2-0 up when our new striker 'billy wizz' only had the goaline to beat as he had already got round the keeper but as is usual with a game at Holmans nothing's easy and we got to half time 0-0

2nd half we were punting towards the cricket score box end and defending the rail track end (Anfield has the Kop we have ours!!) but St Ives were looking a bit more lively and we nearly went behind when a lovely little chip over our heads on the edge of the area and jowan had raced through and turned to try a David platt Italia 90 volley which luckily for us went just wide of the post. 5min later a bit of pressure on the st Ives keeper made him clear the ball from the edge of the area only to find eggy fresh from his latest video shoot who hit the ball first time from about 35 yards out to take us 1 up

Sadly it couldn't last and st Ives equalised when from a corner 'the one that isn't jowan' found a bit of space and played the ball to the edge of the area which was rifled in by a midfielder....bugger!!! And that's how the scoreline finished 1-1. We needed a win but I have to say it was the most enjoyable game I've played in all season so it was nice to finish at blaythorne with a smile on my face. We've got st Ives again ironically for our last away game in may but next up is the joy of travelling to St Day on a Tuesday night :)

Went down to Kernick Road today to watch the Penryn vs Newquay game.

Decent game of football, I was shocked with the great football being played by Penryn in the 2nd half.Newquay tried to get the ball down and play & had some good youngsters.

Roberts took his goals well & Matt Mcilroy ran the show picking up a few assists along the way & was unlucky not to get a goal himself, he'd surely be in the 1st team if he wasn't so fat.

Penryn 5 - 0 Newquay

Goalscorers for penryn...

Jason Roberts x2

Dan Knowles x2

And Ryan reeve

Thought we dominated the game today and played some really nice football, Newquay never really looked like scoring but played some nice football in the middle of the park.

Great win for the lads today, up the Rynners!!!

Goonhavern 0 - 1 perranwell

Lee hazeldine

Game of very few chances. Felt we deserved a draw. Ref's performance was interesting. All the best to Perranwell.

Best wishes also to the Falmouth Athletic player, sounds like an awful one.

Have to agree we were very short today and as this time of the season with cricket lurking most will be .you prob did deserve a point !! Ref was very lol . Gossy is still a very good player , would love to have him at the Well :c:Cricket pitch is looking good .. :D

Spoke with Quaid Last night... it looks like the original diagnosis was way off the mark which is great news. Quaid has torn ankle ligaments and possible dislocated his knee they are waiting for the swelling to go down before they can tell the full extent of the injury. but defo no leg break.

Get well soon.

Wendron United 6-3 St Just

Wendron raced into a two goal lead after some good link up play down the left hand side on both occasions. The first resulted in Sam Care netting, the second came from Justin Searle.

St Just obviously missed the influential Neil Curnow, but as per usual, the hunger and desire was there even if the quality sometimes lacked.

Wendron were barely threatened and both teams tried playing good football on a perfect day but were sometimes left frustrated but the lack of final ball. Steadman's off ball running was quality but the end product in terms of passing wasn't there on the day.

Wendron led 2-0 and were cruising, only to allow the Tinners back into it from a cross that nestled into the top corner, and a well taken penalty.

It wasn't a day for keepers as Langford beat the St Just keeper to the ball and neatly finished.

However, with the second to last kick of the game, St Just equalised after a header hit the bar, bounced off the Wendron keeper and in.

Extra time saw Langford notch his second with a well taken finish, then the St just keeper saw red for what was adjudged to have denying a goal scoring situation. Personally I think there were two defenders covering.

Wendron were given a penalty in the second period of extra time. This one looked more of a sending off,but a booking was given. Langford dispatched for his hat trick.

Yet another penalty was given late on to Wendron, which saw Ben Allen convert.

We made hard work of a game, in my opinion, we should have won comfortably, especially after a 2-0 lead at HT. But massive credit to St Just for pegging us back and showing some great desire.

All the best for the rest of the season.

Great stuff from us to be in the next round of the cup. Any idea when the draw is?

Glad the Fal Athletic player's injury is better than first thought, all the best on a speedy recovery. Great result for you lot too.
