Gilby coming home?

Recommended Posts

After speaking to a source in the bodmin camp, I was shocked to hear that after Bodmin's vase exit and the fact they wont be able to enter the competition next season through lack of fencing around their council owned pitch,

Darren Gilbert is thinking of a move to his home town club of Liskeard.

After my initial shock and on thinking about this, the move would not surprise me, giving Darren's near celeb status in Liskeard and the current state of the blues.

I feel that if Gilby was to make the move he'd have no problem attracting players of quality (at least 10 of his present side) given the fact players love to play for him and the 2 teams budgets are not alot different and he will have at least the chance to enter the F.A vase next season.

Barry wind up....

Ok beaker I know i've been guilty in the past, but this is genuine!

As for the budgets lets say bodmin are throwing 40's around and liskeard 30's and bodmin to liskeard and back cost 10 in fuel.

So the money side of things evens itself out, it just leaves it down to who players want to play for!

and as we all know Gilby is arguably the best manager in the league.

We shall see........

Quicksilver..I was just wondering what team you currently support? Last year I remember reading a few match reports on liskeards games and now this season I have seen a couple on torpoints games but yet your still very interested in liskeards affairs.. back to the original topic, I can't see liskeard being in the vase when there in swpl div 1 !!

I currently support Chelsea. Dont support any team locally but enjoy watching local football. I mainly go and see Plymouth area teams that are going well or local sides vs each other. Mainly Saltash, parkway, torpoint, ivybridge, liskeard and occasionally venture onto the moors to see tavy. Took in the Saltash v launceston game last weekend.

I should imagine a few at bodmin are getting more than 40s surely?!

Bodmin players must be on more than 40's top of the league and top quality players. Newquay are paying 50's and 60's and are stuck down at 6th from bottom !

Had to check the date, just to make sure it wasn't National talk shite day.

Players involved in the game all know its true. Nemesis clearly doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about his own club. as for bodmins budget, it isnt much higher than the average in the league. There was a point when the players where on much higher a couple of years ago, the budget got cut and all the players where happy to accept that. enough said.

A clubs budget, be it Bodmin, Newquay or Liskeard would not normally be known by any player. A Manager is given a budget, how he uses it is down to him, not the club. There will be players that receive payments from outside sources, that has nothing to do with the club. This is the same old rubbish that has been knocking around Cornish Football for a Hundred years and to be honest, it has become very boring. It is spouted by players that are generally not good enough, or supporters of a club who have less money for one reason or another.

In days of old, players were brought in by numerous Cornish Clubs from Plymouth, often jobs were found for those players by the clubs supporters, or they may find that if they popped into a local butchers, there would be a pound or two of steak awaiting them. Those who did not like such 'unfair practices' forced the powers that be to introduce the 10 mile rule, meaning that local players played for local clubs. This led to clubs in the big towns with higher populations, winning everything. The small villages were basically cast adrift, you still see some fools wanting to go back to a similar set-up, hardly competitive is it ?

It wasn't long ago, that Bodmin, Newquay, St Austell had very little money, they have worked hard to get sponsors on board and credit must be given to the committees of those clubs. St Blazey were the darlings for a while, so were Truro City and Porthleven, it is swings and roundabouts. If Player A gets a few quid for his services, good luck to him, but it does not mean that everyone else in the squad is on the same amount, some actually volunteer to play for free, for the love of the club.

Why do clubs need so much sponsership, isn't it amateur football, so it cannot be for players' wages? If it is for expenses, four players travelling in one car from Plymouth to Mid Cornwall, no more than 100 mile total, at 30p per mile equals £30, For a squad of 16, this equals four cars at £30 total £120, and we hear of budgets of £650 per match.

There won't be a winner to Money Man's competition, because he wouldn't reveal what the budget is!!!

I wasn't having a dig @ Newquay. I say good on em 4 showing ambition & splashing the cash. The truth of the matter is as a rule of thumb the teams with the bigger budgets r higher up in the league fact!! Newquay r the man city of peninsula football!! They came up last season, have invested heavily in good players & will finished comfortably mid table this yr. with a bit of luck might challenge the big boys next yr. I say it's just jealousy.

How has this gone from Darren Gilbert possibly leaving Bodmin for Liskeard to Newquay's player budget again.

Who cares what Newquay pay their players that's their business.

Hear Hear NDD who cares about overpaid and under achieving Newquay!!!

I started this topic to see if anyone had anymore information/views on the current BODMIN manager maybe moving to his home town club of LISKEARD.

What the hell does this have to do with Newquay's budget?????

Why do so many people wish to talk about newquay's budget? why not Launceston, Torpoint or any other swpl club?

Out of interest do these people "in the know" know how much mark up Newquay put on the pasties they sell as im sure this is how they have such a large budget
