Grampound FC - Cornwall junior cup semi

Recommended Posts

If you knew our pitch, the last thing you would want to give is a prediction. Last Sunday it resembled a swamp after a game on Saturday and overnight rain. Looking better today and it really depends on how heavy the predicted rain turns out to be.

Grampound were disappointed to have lost after giving away at least 3 soft goals against a Bude team that would find it hard in Duchy 1, let alone Premier. They dominated the opening half hour but were suddenly 2-0 down with a soft penalty and a breakaway. Tim Peers pulled one back before the break but poor defensive work followed by another breakaway where the striker was very fortunate gave Bude a lead that was a little undeserved.

Good luck to Bude in the Divisional final, but I think St Austell will soundly spank them.

As a neutral there today, i thought bude were very worthy winners! Grampound started well and had the better of the first ten minutes then bude were pretty much in control. It was tough for both teams on a wet slippery pitch but this was to grampounds benefit in my opinion. On a better surface i think bude would of had a more comfortable victory. I too think st austell will beat bude in the next round, but you never know! Well done both teams and good luck for the rest of the season.

Get over it- take defeat with grace. If there were three soft goals it was probably because your team werent playing so well and so deservd to lose. Sory for sounding harsh but that's how it is sometimes with football.

Grampound were fortunate to be given a second chance for another teams admin error. Bude beat us 3-1 in a very hard fought game at their place in the first round and I tipped them to go far as they were the best team we have played this year. I watched the Godolphin - Grampound quarter final and felt neither team had sufficient quality to trouble this Bude team, the away win scoreline today proves that. They also have a string of impressive results against Duchy 1 and 2 teams on their route to the final. I think they would be challenging for the title in D1 and one be in the top 4 easy in the Duchy Premier. They will be a far sterner test in the final for St Austell than Grampound or Godolphin who are both in the upper reaches of Duchy 1.

Evening. As the manager at Grampound I am slightly mistified by rocket ronnies match report.

I'm not going to come on here and be bias or slate another team but I think AJW match report is slightly unjust but not entirely untrue.

We conceded really sloppy goals (as we have been doing lately) and definitely deserved to lose over 90 minutes. But I think the comment about us having a slippery wet pitch was to our advantage was absolutely ridiculous. I have played at GFC for a number of years and the mention of a poor pitch had been said to help level the game in our favour to attain an even footing with better footballing opponents.

But our current squad of young FAST players merely acted as a leveller for Bude. I'm not saying for a minute we would have won or the result would have been different but I feel our strengths were diminished by a thick sodden pitch.

I wish Bude all the best in the final but I do feel St Austell will have to much.

P. S. An admin error could be construed as cheating.

Possibly.....but that is a different debate. My own opinion having played against Bude and seen Godolphin vs Grampound is that Bude would have far too much for whoever was the victor of that tie. The 4-1 win AT Grampound would appear to back that opinion. For AJW to suggest Bude would struggle in Duchy One seems slightly bizarre, and possibly could be construed as being a poor loser against a team that has won against 3 top half Duchy One teams en route to a deserved place in the Eastern final. I speak for all the P6 team wishing them the best of luck against our old rivals St Austell in the final.

Yes, mid table playmaker10! A poor start to the season cost them really but there is a couple really strong sides who should be in the North Devon Premier! A good cup run is always nice though if the league season doesn't quite plan out right! They are starting to settle an assembled squad now but St.Austell will be a mammoth test, is that St.Austell 2nd of 3rd team? I'm assuming 2nd!

Have just come across this thread and after watching the game live it made for fascinating reading.

Whilst not being a born and bred local I do consider myself to be a grampound follower and generally split my time between watching them and Sticker. My first point is here as what a very childish and pathetic post from AJW, nobody likes a sore loser!

The facts of the matter is that Bude turned up and were clear to all there that they were by far the stronger unit, yes we had a good opening 5-10 minutes but in that time I dont think we had a shot! So hardly the 30 minutes of domination mentioned above. If they score was going to be any different it would was only ever going to be a more convincing won for Bude I am afraid to say.

As for the debate on who the pitch would of helped again from watching the game to me it was Bude that had the football in them, I watched them play a very strong Sticker team earlier in the competition on a decent pitch and the quality of football at times was something u rarely see a a junior level.

Grampound have a great chance of promotion but need to stop worrying about other teams and focus on themselves as they seem short of ideas and displayed a real lack of discipline during the game. I even witnessed one player refuse to shake a Bude players hand on the full time whistle.

Must do better!!

Having played for the club since I was 16 I'm a die hard Grampound fan. After watching the game I do think that 4-1 flattered Bude a little as there was very few clear cut chances in the game, however credit must go to them for capitalising on Grampound's defensive errors. I've seen better sides than Bude this season but saying that they were a strong unit, worked hard for each other and showed a real togetherness on and off the pitch, this goes a long way in success as well as having talented players. I think that Grampound didn't give a display that does the ability in the squad justice which is frustrating from a Grampound viewpoint. I'm sure however that the manager and players will now be fully focused on promotion which is very much in the sides hands.

It does concern me that one of our players refused to shake hands with an opposition player, this is something that the club can not condone. If the manager was aware of which player this was in sure he'd have said something. Finally all the best to Bude in the area final in what will be a very difficult game against a talented and experienced St Austell side.

This is more like it- your post seems fair and the bit about not shaking hands is also fair.
