Getting Interesting at the Bottom of the Table

Recommended Posts

Although in theory we should be half way through the season and rumours state Trewlany Prem team(s) might or have applied from promotion (Redruth from what has been said on here, although it doesn't count for anything), it is definitely beginning to warm up at the bottom......

Who might fall to the lower league.......?

I think the real question should be how many will be eligible to come up from the trelawny prem to combo..? If its more than x2,and they finish in the appropriate positions then that's when the combo clubs need to start worrying,I can't see any coming up from the trelawny prem to combo,no one other than Illogan have the facilities needed at senior football, and they won't be going up as their firsts don't seem to be interested in swpl.

I think you will find that only the top two can now apply for promotion, it used to be top two from Fal/Hel league and top two of Mining league could apply. since the amalgamation of the leagues it is now just the top two from Trelawney

If this is correct,Illogan will easilly win the league...so only 1 team will go up if Redruth or threemilestone manage to grab 2nd spot...could be an interesting finish to the season! Redruth utd nor threemilestone have a clubhouse though do they?? Surly all senior clubs should have one on site, you've got to draw a line between senior and junior at some point..??

I was under the impression that you had to finish top three and meet the requirements. With Illogan not legible for promotion the other two clubs can apply. I am not sure though if two clubs can be promoted or just one.....

Someone from the league committee might be able to answer this for us???

Neither Pendeen nor St Ives have club houses as an example, so that cannot be a requirement.....

I thought Pendeen had a club house? The Saltings has facilities for spectators.. perhaps that is the requirement...

As per Trelawny League Rules 2012/13 - Promotion to the Cornwall Combination League shall be subject to the arrangements below:

1. To be eligible for promotion to the Combination League a team must finish in the top four of the Premier Division.

2. Only two of the top four teams may be promoted and then only providing they meet the criteria for admission to the Cornwall Combination League.

3. Reserve teams of existing Cornwall Combination League members shall not be eligible for promotion.

4. Any club seeking promotion must apply to this league by 7th January of the current season.

5. Initial ground grading will then be completed by Officers of this League by 7th February and a recommendation of all Clubs that have met the criteria will be submitted to the Cornwall Combination League by 14th February.

6. Clubs seeking promotion must confirm their application to the Combination League, in writing, and enclose an application fee of £25 by 14th February.

7. The grounds of all confirmed applicants will be inspected by the Cornwall Combination League by 14th March and this League will be informed of all those Clubs that have met all criteria by 31st March.

8. All improvement work required to be carried out to secure promotion must be completed by the Clubs and inspected and passed by the Combination League by 31st May of the current season.

9. A Joint Liaison Committee consisting of three representatives of this League and the Combination League will administer and make decisions regarding matters of relegation from and promotion to the Combination League. This committee will comprise the Chairman and Secretary of each League plus one other member and will be chaired by the Chairman of the Combination League. The Secretary of the Combination League shall be the convenor of such meetings as are necessary.

10. Any teams relegated from the Combination League will be placed in the Premier Division of this League.

11. If a team is relegated from the Combination League into the Premier Division of this League and the club concerned already has a team in that Division then the existing Premier Division team shall be withdrawn or relegated.

Agreed about pendeen and st Ives but I do think that all senior clubs should have a clubhouse,I also think that if clubs that apply for promotion require certain things to do with their grounds, then clubs who are currently in that league they are applying for should also have to have these facilities by a set date, else it is favourable to clubs who have been in the league for years, this way you'd ensure the first step of senior football is a good one for players and spectators.

Ben financially apart from wasting the money entering the senior cup and avoiding at all costs fines from the league commitee it can actually be financially more rewarding being in the combo (gate money)

I think by the end of Feb it will be pretty clear who will be in for the drop and even I must admit through my rose tinted spectacles if we dont pick up at least 7 points in February with 3 of our 4 matches at home against St Just, Perranwell & Newquay and then the tricky trip away to face St Just again we are going to have a mountain larger then Kilimanjaro to climb to extract ourselves from the bottom two places

Spirit is still high at Blaythorne though and its not all doom and gloom as some of our knockers may believe in fact we are looking forward to seeing Steve and his barmy army this weekend.

I think the bottom two will go down as Im sure that Redruth and Threemilestone who are both well run clubs should finish in the required positions and Im sure both set ups (Malpas) & (Clijah top pitch) will pass the required inspections

Would there be enough clubs that could fulfil such criteria though.. plus there's the financial aspects to consider

Well surly that'll drive clubs forward, organise more events pre season, run more money raisings evenings, apply for grants etc etc, surly in the long run Cornwall would benefit from this..? I fail to believe that given an ultimatum like this clus would just roll over and be relegated/kicked out, tough loving I know!!

I cant see how malpas would qualify? Prone to being waterlogged for long periods of time and appauling changing facilities! Clijah is usually pretty good and has hosted combo before with Portreath so should be ok

I thought TMS' ground was currently under redevelopment, ready for next season, hence why they are currently playing at Malpas?

Further to my last post, I have just spoken with a member of the combination league committee. He kindly confirmed for me that a maximum of two teams can be promoted and that they must finish in the top four. Two teams therefore can be relegated.

As Pitty says, it is going to be tough for the bottom clubs, but for sure will make things very interesting and extremely competitive at the bottom of the division.

The games of the season could be;

09/02/13 Falmouth Athletic DC v Newquay

23/03/13 Holman Sports Club v Porthleven

02/04/13 Porthleven v Troon

13/04/13 Newquay v Porthleven

13/04/13 Falmouth Athletic DC v St Just

23/04/13 Hayle v Holman Sports Club

I remember when Nancygollan didn't have changing rooms... it could be sunny for 76 days in a row, come the day you had to play there.. Noah would be sailing past

Is everyone forgeting u can now only drop 2 1st team playesrs at a time now till its 7 days after they last played swpl football ?

That makes it a more level playing field, its a good new rule. When i played a good few years ago you could play the whole sw league team or western league team in Falmouths case in mid week matches because it was all classed as senior football.

For reference in the Cornishman on Thursday - Redruth United and Threemilestone have applied for promotion.

Looks like two up and therefore two down........ Who will it be????

Bottom 5 currently tight:

Hayle - Played 21 Points 19

Falmouth Athletic DC - Played 18 Points 17

Newquay - Played 19 Points 12

Porthleven - Played 24 Points 11

Holman Sports Club - Played 21 Points 8
