Good luck to AFC Bodmin for the rest of the season.

Michael Rabone
St. Mawgan Reserves 2 - 3 St. Columb Major Reserves Major's relentless pressure finally told after an entertaining derby match was settled in the 95th minute after Major had overcome a two goal deficit to steal three points amidst some very challenging conditions. With the Trevarrian pitch in reasonable condition, the strong end-to-end wind was always going to exaggerate the gradient as Major opted to play uphill and against the wind in the opening period. It looked like the decision had the potential to backfire as a questionable second-minute tumble from former Major player Tom McCormick allowed St. Mawgan's Lee Bryant to expose a poorly assembled wall to beat Eliot Clarke in the Major goal with a fine strike from twenty-five yards. It became apparent that the conditions were going to play a significant part in the outcome as the visitors struggled to clear their defensive territory. The hosts were using their conditions to their advantage and were guilty of wasting a couple of fine opportunities early on, however, Major were equally guilty of profligate finishing with Olly Kernick side-footing woefully wide of the target after a fine move and when winger Jason Ridd had weaved his way into the box, another poor strike on goal meant that Maor were still chasing the game. As the first half wore on, the visitors were looking the most likely to score with Luke Worrall's left-wing crosses putting the St. Mawgan goal under pressure. Yet it was goalscorer Bryant who was guilty of two game changing misses; the first as a result of a wind-assisted goal kick that fell favourably to the once prolific goal scorer, who failed to convert from close range after Clarke had made a save against the odds. As the half wore on, Major looked destined to enter the half-time break just a goal behind and Bryant's misery contined when Major's Jay Tipton flicked an in-swinging free-kick onto his own post with his goalkeeper stranded, only for Bryant to make a hash of the rebound by awkwardly lifting the ball over the exposed Major goal. There was still time for another significant incident within the last first-half minute. A late challenge on Major defender David Menhennitt, who had enjoyed a fine first half, went unpunished with an inidrect free-kick awarded to the home side, much to the dispair of Major manager Nigel Worrall who was subsequently given his marching orders. The resulting free kick was swung goalwards and took the slightest deflection off a Major defender and into the net, despite there not being a St. Mawgan player nearby. With such challenging conditions, it was unclear to whether a two goal margin would prove to be enough for the home side, with a period of second half pressure inevitable. After a frustrating opening fifteen minutes of the second half, during which Major wasted a series of opportunities to reduce the deficit, the visitors made a couple of changes with Tom Ball and David Rabone joining the Major forward line. St. Mawgan were experiencing similar problems to their counterparts as they struggled to leave their own half as they fought against the conditions, yet the St. Mawgan goal was living a charmed life as Major were unable to convert despite having the mammoth share of possession. A rare foray into the Major half resulted in visiting goalkeeper Clarke picking up an injury, with Michael Rabone donning the gloves with the visitors still very much in the game despite having only fifteen minutes to reverse the two goal margin. And how ironic it proved to be that the first Major goal would come from unlikely circumstances as Luke Worrall curled an inch perfect left-wing corner that smashed into the far post and into the net; judging by a couple of first half set pieces, it would come as no surprise if Worrall was seeking to exploit the conditions to his advantage - and what a difference it made as Major's onslaught in the final ten minutes would ultimately prove to be the difference. A couple of long clearances from Rabone caused the St. Mawgan defence a few difficulties and when a relentless onslaught from the visitors resulted in the ball dropping to the feet of substitute Tom Ball, there were looks of despair as his close-range strike was sidefooted wide with the goal at his mercy. Yet it proved immaterial as moments later a deep cross was headed straight into the path of substitute David Rabone, who smashed a low cross into the goalmouth for Jamie Tipton to neatly collect the ball, rifling into the roof of the net from six yards for a deserved equaliser. It was now a case of whether Major could find time for a winner with five minutes of time added on. The visitors continued with their pressure and it looked like the hosts were going to scrape a point when Rabone's free kick from the half way line caused havoc in the St. Mawgan area, with the ball hacked to safety with just seconds remaining. Tipton launched a hurried long throw into the St. Mawgan area and when Simon Mitchell won yet another header, flicking the ball into the air, Luke Worrall held off two markers to guide a pass to Dan Ball, who crashed a close-range strike into the net for a last-gasp winner to secure three more points for the resilient and ecstatic visitors in the 95th minute. The goal meant that Major took six points from their local rivals after a 3-0 victory earlier in the season, yet both sides will do it all over again with a fascinating two-leg cup semi final in the pipeline. Man of the match - Dan Ball. Match winner.
morcs
Duchy 2 Queens Rangers 1-2 Lostwithiel Scorers for Lostwithiel (James Hutchings & Bayley Phillips) Tough game on a heavy pitch which cut up badly through the game. Chances to make the scoreline more impressive but the one on one situations didn't go are way. Queens battled well and made this a very competitive game. The home side also missed a penalty but I think justice done as never a penalty in my opinion. Also a shame the home linesman was a bit too flag happy and half the time never in line with the last man! Good to get the vital 3 points after a 7 week layoff due to the weather!! phoenix
Tregony 2 LC Phoenix 4 Given the serious weather conditions over the last week or so, it was a relief to see this game go ahead. From a Phoenix persepective, however, this was one of the few positives to take from this laboured game. Phoenix started brightly enough with some dangerous forays into the Tregony half, and sure enough Harry Marsh finished clinically to give the alumni team a one goal lead. Tregony pulled one back when their striker was left in an acre of space to squeeze the ball between goalkeeper and post. Credit must be given to Tregony, who sensing Phoenix frustration, pressed forward and were awarded a debatable penalty when opposing players made contact with each other in the area. The penalty was taken, converted and re-taken after the referee spotted an infringement. This time Nick Oldaker dived low to his right and parried the ball to eventual safety. If Phoenix were rattled, they responded positively with Matt Brookes twice finding space after ghosting in from wide right of the pitch to claim a classy brace. The second half was largely forgettable; the heavy pitch, strong winds and unsettled Phoenix players meant the play was disjointed and ugly. Tregony narrowed the gap to a single goal when another penalty was awarded for hand-ball. Phoenix quickly restored parity with a quality Harry Marsh goal and for the remainder of the half it was a case of Phoenix taking pot-shots at the Tregony goalkeeper and mostly missing a host of chances that ought to have reflected the scoreline when these two teams met earlier on in the season. Tregony, for their part, worked hard to contain the alumni team and should take many positives from this encounter. The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match Award: Ryan Cox- if ever a game had upset written all over it, it was this one. The composed centre-back broke down numerous Tregony counter-attacks with a perfomance that was more valuable than people might have realised. Premier Sixes
Tintagel gave Division Two leaders Padstow United a hard game before going down 6-3 to their higher division opponents in the second round of the Bodmin Sports Trophies League Cup. Tintagel’s downfall was partly down to three balls pushed across their penalty area that were all pounced onto by Padstow and turned into goals. Johnny Murt scored a hat trick for the visitors with Kyle Tippett adding a brace and Jake Charles completing their tally. Shaun Keeble scored a brace for Tintagel with Martin Cockcroft also on target. Premier Division title hopefuls AFC St.Austell bounced back from their first defeat last week to come from behind and beat local rivals Mevagissey 2-1. After a goalless first half Chris Dingle fired Mevagissey ahead. St.Austell hit straight back and equalised through Nick Bennetts and with ten minutes remaining Peter Davey netted a crucial winner. St.Newlyn East have recovered from a shaky start to the season and recorded a fine 3-1 home win over Lamerton. Russell Withers, Chris Ballett and Liam Dent scored the home goals with Paul Breyley replying. St.Cleer and St.Mawgan fought out a one all draw with Steve Luscombe getting the home goal. Week St.Mary climbed off the bottom of Division One with an astonishing 5-4 win at Grampound. They caught the host’s asleep and were two up in eight minutes through Ben Smeeth and Steve Short, although both were soft goals to give away. Grampound gained ascendancy without looking like breaking their opponents down and were always aware how dangerous Week were on the break. Within five minutes of the restart, Grampound restored parity. Shane Weeks volleyed the first, followed by Tim Peers hammering a shot into the top corner, one of the best goals seen at Grampound for many years. Week handled this setback well and went 4-2 up after goals from Henry Mann and Antony Sachs, but back came Grampound with Martin Lloyd getting on to a loose ball for their third and Ryan Maker equalising from the edge of the penalty area. With just two minutes remaining Jimmy Shanks planted a sweet header from a corner into the net to give week St.Mary their first league win of the season. St.Dominick twice came from behind to draw their match at Pelynt. The first thirty minutes was quite even although St.Dominick blasted a couple of shots over the bar. Pelynt came closest when they hit the bar from a free kick and then went ahead on the half hour through Ali Carter. St.Dominick were level within five minutes when Karl Whitehead was brought down in the box and Scott Coombe tucked away the resulting penalty. Two minutes after the restart Liam Jones ran through the middle to restore the host’s lead before in the seventieth minute Stefan Paull cut in from the right to score the leveller. Paull nearly snatched the winner at the death, but saw his effort cleared off the line. Altarnun put in one of their better performances to defeat Godolphin Atlantic 2-1, giving the visitor’s a first defeat of the season. Trailing at half time after Stuart Cole gave away a free kick from which Ben Colquhoun got on the end of the set piece to score. Altarnun levelled after the break when Smith was put through to net and they missed an open goal not long after. Altarnun were pressing strongly and finally clinched the points when a Mike Diebner shot was fumbled by the keeper and Smith followed up to score his second. Matt Barton and Robbie Spencer scored a brace apiece as Looe Town thrashed St.Dennis 7-2. Steve Gowing, Neil Jones and Luke Lane added the remaining home goals with Gary Tippett and Paul Rowe getting the visitor’s consolation goals. Biscovey won 3-1 at Maker with Rame to maintain their title challenge. Mark Mirfin-Strike scored the home goal. North Petherwin are now only one point off the top of Division Two after a 4-2 victory at Premier Sixes where they can thank the home back four for their kind offerings. Sixes though went ahead straight from the kick off when Josh Mitchell was allowed to go through unchecked for the opener. This offering was quickly returned by the Sixes defence with the full back volleying the ball into his own net in the tenth minute. Karl Olander restored the home lead from the spot, but Petherwin soon replied when a cross was deflected by a defender perfectly into the oncoming forward to loop a superb header into the goal. Remarkably Petherwin went ahead also straight from the kick off at the start of the second half and again came from another volleyed own goal. Sixes pressed forward and it was like “The Alamo” with the hosts unable to break down the visitors defence. With a minute on the clock Wayne Francome outpaced a home defender and planted a sublime lob to seal the three points. Lanreath stay bottom after only drawing two all with St.Breward, a game they needed to win. James Barrett and Jodie Barton of Lanreath traded goals with Kelvin Tootle and Wayne Davey. Foxhole welcomed AFC Bodmin to Goverseth park. Foxhole got going from the start with much of the early possession. AFC Bodmin came into the game 15 minutes in, 0-0 at half time. AFC Bodmin came out better for the first 5 minutes of the second half, then Foxhole got there game together and much of the play was rewarded with a goal on the 15 min mark of the second half by, A ball was switched across the pitch to find Tom Grylls who coolly took his shot to slot pass the AFC Bodmin keeper. AFC Bodmin was gifted a goal 15 minutes from the end for Dan Haggett to score. It looked like the points would be shared when AFC Bodmin netted in their own goal to bring the final score 2-1 to Foxhole. Lostwithiel playing their first game for many weeks will be pleased with a 2-1 success at Queens Rangers. Leading scorer James Hutchings and Bayley Phillips scored for Lostwithiel with Matt Gummow pulling one back for Rangers. Two Liam Andrews goals gave Sticker a 2-0 victory over Gerrans & St.Mawes United. Sticker started brightly using the short passing game to good effect. However, as they progressed up the field towards the opponent’s goal they tended to run out of steam. The home side continued to play some slick football and on twenty minutes Alex Keast slid the ball into Martin Matthews who in turn slid it to Liam Andrews who opened the scoring with a neat flick. If anything Sticker had even more of the play after the interval but again they were found wanting in the final third. Andrews doubled his tally midway through the half to put the game beyond Gerrans. Lanivet Inn went to Division Three leaders Holywell/Cubert Athletic with a below strength side and although hammered by ten goals without reply, they never gave up and earned great respect from the victors. Simon Holmes and Josh Busby scored a hat trick apiece, but Lee Copp went one better with four goals. Title favourites St.Minver were also in impressive form. Jason Northcott grabbed a hat trick in an eight –goal thrashing of Delabole United. Cory Cleave and Paul Dingle added a brace apiece with Chris Simmons completing the rout. St.Stephen beat Camelford 5-1, but only an outstanding display by keeper Stuart Hill who deprived Saints leading scorer Matt Spry on numerous occasions kept the score down. In an eventful game St.Stephen made a poor start and a mistake allowed Jack Shaw to give the visitors a third minute lead. Jason Rundle supplied a superb ball across the box that was knocked in by Billy Daynes for an own goal equaliser and Dean Yelland put St.Stephen ahead with his first goals in men’s football. One goalmouth scramble before half time saw Spry denied time and again by Hill. St.Stephen stretched their lead after half time with Spry claiming a goal although it appeared as another own goal from Aaron Williams and shortly after Camelford were reduced to ten men. St.Stephen were now missing chance after chance and being denied by Hill when they were on target, but Ross Dunn put in a good finish for the fourth and Dunn slotted in a second after being given a good advantage by the superb young referee. Stoke Climsland were another team to have a big win hitting six against Callington who failed to trouble the scorer’s in reply. Tom Cleveland scored a brace with Tom Savage, Dan Jones, James Wing and Darren Wickett all hitting a goal apiece. LC Phoenix were 4-2 winners at Tregony were Harry Marsh and Matt Brookes both scored a brace. Louis Maye replied with one of the home goals. Lifton moved to within two points of the top of Division Four after beating Wadebridge Town 3-1. Tom Ellacott, Gavin Ellacott and Cody Wilson scored their goals. St.Neot were held one all by Pensilva reserves. Jamie Eldridge gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot, but another penalty converted by Zak Peel earned the visitors a share of the spoils. Jack Bray-Smith scored a hat trick as Gorran beat St.Cleer reserves 5-2. Nick Webb and Nick Parkyn completed the home scoring with Jack Mote and Andy Thomas replying. Torpoint Comrades beat Grampound reserves 2-1. North Petherwin reserves comfortably beat Pelynt reserves 4-1 in the battle of Division Five promotion hopefuls. Sam Stockdale hit the twenty-goal mark with a brace with Dan Hancock and Paul Penny adding further goals. Nathan Smallman hit the visitor’s consolation. Leaders Veryan thrashed Tregrehan Mills hitting seven without reply, but the score line was a little flattering. Charlie Mooney and Simon Matthews scored a brace apiece with Justin Trebilcock, Toby Robinson and an own goal completing the scoring. St.Merryn beat Boscastle reserves 4-2 in what in truth was a poor game. Josh Foley, Mike Shearer, Josh Dark and Ashley Rescorla scored for St.Merryn with Sam Haddy and Kevin Gerry replying for Boscastle. St.Columb Major reserves won a close derby match at St.Mawgan reserves 3-2. Luke Worrall, Dan Ball and Jamie Tipton scored for St.Columb with Darren Allum and Lee Bryant replying. Duke of Cornwall remain in the bottom two after a 4-2 home defeat by St.Minver reserves. Sean Baron and Leon Trudgian scored the home goals, but strikes from Brian Kelly, Ryan Butler, Dennis Brown and Mike Green gave St.Minver the points.
