Well its that time of the year again where i post about American football and you all hurl abuse at me...but here goes.

The Cornish Sharks American Football team are recruiting now and throughout the year.

Its a great sport to play and keep you fit while the soccer (bring it!!) season is finished, our season runs from april-september.

We play in the British American Football Association National League (BAFANL) National South Conference and this year will be lining up against the likes of Hampshire Thrashers, Bournemouth Bobcats, Bristol Apache, Gloucester Centurions, Oxford Saints, Swindon Storm and Previous British National Champions and EFAF Cup (American football version of the champions league) runners up the Farnham Knights.

Even if your not interested in playing why not come to Mount Wise Stadium during the season and watch some live sport.

Dreadful, tedious, popcorn-guzzling, incomprehensible, overdressed, overhyped murderball, with about as much visual appeal as the navel fluff of a 25 stone American gorilla. May it please go the same way as the United States of Capitalism, down into the abyss of a grave eroded by its own bloated excess ! Why do Newquay FC allow this anti-cultural excrescence to besmirch the cricket season ? Bring back the Donkey Derby.....the participants had more strategic nouse and were prettier by far !

I would rather watch an old video of Nat Lofthouse's 100 Greatest Shoulder Charges than this, thanks. Come to that, I'd rather eat my left eye.

No offence, Mr Lombardi, but the wonderful quotation from Blanchflower sums up why the poor old Spuds never win anything ! Give AVB a ring: half his goalscorers come from Oh Say Can You See Land now. They'll all be on free transfers in the summer after finishing seventh in the Prem and might fancy a fortnight on the Newquay sand with the Farnham Knights, riding those trusty donkeys ! :)

Ahhh, Sharks 35... "whoever you might be" I have to admire your persistence in trying to convert the local folk of Cornwall to your sport from 4000 miles away.. but unfortunately, for once, Rodney is actually mildly right... most of this county are only interested in 2 types of eggs.. the one that comes out of a chickens bum, and the one that gets pointlessly chased round a field by 30 men who've eaten too many pasties in the last 20 years.

And as for your average footballer, well take me for example... I weigh as much as a bag of sugar, and have the build of an ostrich.. one hit by one of those fearsome Corner Backs.. and loe, there would be nothing left of me save for a pair of cleats and a rather large broken nose..

Again, I admire your tenacity, and I hope you get some recruits.. but, you have lined yourself up for a bit of a fall..

(I may have been in the cider again)

It's no different to people getting carried away by the county rugby team and to an extent the county football team - maybe a good day out but the standard is rubbish compared to the real thing - remember going to Twickers years ago to watch Cornwall and was embarrassed by the lack of quality of BOTH teams. Saw an american football match down at Hayle RFC years ago and it ended 0-0 - could not run, could not catch but bags of endeavour. Would go along to watch a match out of idle curiousity tho - and perhaps for a laugh.

The Cornish Sharks return to Mount Wise Stadium for a second season, a chance for those Rugger Buggers to don some fancy dan protective gear and keep fit(ish) during the summer months.

I along with the Torpoint Chairman, spent an enjoyable afternoon watching the Sharks v Bournemouth Bobcats last season, I'm sure there are many more who would like to spend a few hours away from the good lady wife (yours and mine), have a beer or two whilst trying to work out why there are no dancing girls during the many breaks in play. If you have no interest in cricket and miss the sound of crunching bones and in this case, metalwork, do pop along to Mount Wise at some point.

We are hopeful, that we can stage a floodlit match at some point and have a game covered by Cornwall Channel.
