Helston vs callington

And lee ricks bit of luck for there first from a corner of the top corner of the goal fell to Hugh Hewlett about 7/8 yards out and volleyed over defender on the line good finish could of lashed it anywhere
Hughie generally does lash it anywhere, on the field and in the bar. Could have gone anywhere, and he generally does.

Anybody no the official attendance seemed like there was several there ??

118(hc) was quoted by a groundhopper

If you look on the Tony Kempster site in the Groundhopping section under "Where did you go"

There is a full report by "Buncranaboy" from South Midlands on his day out and match report.

He liked his pint of Betty Stoggs

Shortcut Re: [Chris1963] Saturday 19th January 2013 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately Cornwall Senior Cup : Helston Athletic 2 Callington Town 1. Admission with programme £4. Att : 118 (hc)

Shifnalshrew and myself decided to take a chance on the M5 with temperatures in Cornwall forecast to be well above freezing, so we left Quinton just after 8 to allow for the inevitable incidents.......and there weren't any, and hardly any traffic either. Phone contact with KYM and the regular updates on Phil's website informed us what was on but as we were in Exeter by 10.30 thus far too early for the Eastern SWPL fixtures, we kept on going. In the end, The Shrew decided on Hayle so I dropped him outside the chippy in the village while I went ten miles further on to the 1.30 kick-off at Helston.

The Senior Cup still means something in Cornwall with it's traditional Easter Monday Final usually attracting a bumper attendance and Helston took great delight in this come-from-behind victory that they just about deserved.

Kellaway Park sits above the town and occupies a large site with several "out-pitches" away from the main one. There's a large car park within the ground which is fully-railed and has a substantial overhang with a couple of steps of terracing in front of the clubhouse which is located just past the half-way line. There appears to be a current appeal to raise money for floodlighting. The clubhouse was large yet cosy, and a pint of Betty Stogs was available for just £2. At the end of the building was a serving hatch dispensing fantastic pasties at £2 and home made leek and potato broth with a roll for £1.50.

I watched the second half from the far side between the dugouts as the sun disappeared from view and the chill set in. The banter and general demeanour of both benches was so unusual that it's worth comment - congratulating oppositon players as they were subbed, good craic with all officials and each other and general respect to each other with no ranting or swearing. It should be the norm but sadly isn't any more, so well done both clubs and a pat on the back to everyone at Helston for a really nice match-day. Plus this is the first time I've ever been to Helston and not been Spingo-ed.

Caught the last 15 minutes and 3 goals from the Hayle-Foxhole game - can I count it? An almost empty snow-free motorway meant the return journey was probably quicker than on a "normal" Saturday. He who dares.......
