Junior cup quarter final.

Godolphin 2-2 Grampound after 90 mins.

Godolphin win 2-1 on penalties.

An even first half which Grampound went 1 nil up with a tame free kick that eluded all players and the Godolphin keeper.

Godolphin dominated a poor Grampound on the 2nd half and deservedly equalised with the goal of the game.

Extra time saw both teams rejuvenated but Godolphin deservedly took the lead 2 minutes in the 1st period only for Grampound to find an equaliser from a slightly debatable penalty. Godolphin then had a man sent off for a stupid 2nd bookable offence. Which the referee spotted.

The 2nd period was all Grampound buoyed by the equaliser and an extra man pushed hard but lacked the killer instinct to find a definite winning goal.

The penalty shoot out was all about the poor surface in the top goal which ment some poor penalties with players from both teams miss hitting on a number of occasions. The penalties that were well hit went in apart from one fantastic grasp from Berry in the Godolphin net.

Godolphin prevailed with the unfortunate Adam Brenton missing the equalising penalty.

Good luck to Godolphin in the next round and look forward to our league meeting.

Saltash 4 St Columb Major 1

How this match was allowed to go ahead I'll never know! You can imagine the state of the pitches in Cornwall this weekend and yet a Youth game was played on the same pitch before this one. If a referee has a duty of care and is responsible for the health and safety of players there is no way this match should have been played. The other pitch at Saltash alongside the pitch that was played on had water lying on the lines. The pitch that was used was unmarked and I stood at the halfway line and could only see the touchlines about 10 yards away because the condition of the sides where linesmen, coaches etc had stood during the morning game.

Considering the conditions it was a good game and I am really proud of the St.Columb team for enduring the conditions and playing with such spirit against a good Saltash team. I thought our lads were outstanding. Going one down after a minute and two after eleven I thought we dug in well and held them for the rest of the half. If both sides had taken their chances it could have been 7-4 at half time.

The final insult was the referee giving a Saltash goal when he was stood between the half way line and the penalty area. There was no way that he could tell from there if the ball had crossed the line. I have no way of telling other than Martin Atkinsons reaction to the decision.

St.Columb scored a really good goal from Daley McErlain after good approach work from Alex Bicknell and Scott Wheadon.

Saltash's last goal came in the dying seconds. Well done Saltash.

JJ Jones Duchy Football League from Michael Newcombe

There was a cup upset in the Bodmin Sports Trophies League Cup where St.Merryn of Division Five won through on penalties against Welcome Inn of Division Three. Welcome seemed in control when Tom Pickering and Carl Webster gave them a two-goal lead. St.Merryn put in a dogged performance and drew level through Mike Shearer and Ashley Rescorla to take the game to a penalty shootout. With the pitch now resembling a mud bath, St.Merryn held their nerve to win the shootout 4-2.

North Petherwin reserves are through to a Trims & Windows Reserve Cup semi final after upsetting higher division Gunnislake reserves 6-3 in their quarter-final tie. Two up at the break, the second half flowed from end-to-end with the home team keeping their noses in front to spring little surprise. Dan Hancock and Dan Warring scored a brace apiece for the hosts with Paul Penny and Sam Stockdale adding their remaining goals. Gunnislake replied with a Mike King brace and a Glen Tremblett goal.

Saltash United are six points clear at the top of the Premier Division after beating St.Columb Major 4-1 with Josh Fedrick hitting a hat trick. Tony Jane was the other home scorer with Daley McErlain replying.

Fowey United keep in touch of the top two after a Josh Frampton hat trick helped them to a six nil win at St.Mawgan. Sam Marchant added a brace with Tom Vincent getting a first goal of the season.

There was an exhilarating game at St.Newlyn East where Mevagissey came away with a 6-5 win. Miles Gardner and Jamie Hellier put the visitor’s two up, but Newlyn roared back to level before half time. Mevagissey restored a healthy lead and led 6-3 with the game in its later stages, but back came Newlyn to reduce the arrears and they hit the woodwork twice in the closing minutes to deny them an incredible victory. Russell Withers scored a brace for Newlyn with Matt Toms, Chris Hall and Mike Thompson on his debut adding further goals. Gardner scored a brace for Mevagissey with Jamie Hellier, Bruce Campbell, Adam Trudgian and Chris Dingle their other scorer’s.

Pensilva missed a chance to close in on the Division One leaders when conceding an equaliser at Altarnun. Pensilva brought the best out of the home keeper in the first half, but finally took the lead just before half time when Jack Penhaligon shot home. Altarnun didn’t really raise their game until the last quarter, but when they did Danny Moore to earn a one all draw.

Second placed Biscovey also lost out when well beaten 4-1 at St.Dominick. The home side had the better of the opening twenty-five minutes, but fell behind from the visitor’s first real attack when James Cutlan lobbed the keeper on the half hour. Jon Savigar quickly equalised and then scored a second from close range just before half time. With conditions worsening as heavy showers littered the game, St.Dominick went on to dominate in the second half. They went further ahead in the seventy-fifth minute after a defensive mistake when Savigar had his first shot blocked by the keeper but followed up to complete his hat trick. Savigar turned provider two minutes from time when he set up Scot Coombe for the fourth.

North Petherwin moved to within three points of the top of Division Two after winning their longest journey of the season, 4-3 at Gerrans &St.Mawes United. Andy Butler, Callum Reeve, Ryan Julian and Simon Oliver scored their goals with Haydn Andrew, Charlie Andrew and Queron Richards replying for the hosts.

Two Mike Horne goals put AFC Bodmin on the way to a 3-1 win at Boscastle. Dexter Reeve was the other visiting scorer with Jon Brewer replying.

Sticker beat St.Breward 3-2. Sticker’s inability to convert chances was apparent in the first half as opportunity after opportunity was spurned. Even a penalty couldn’t help as Matt Lloyd’s spot kick sailed over the bar. The home side were made to pay with St.Breward making the most of some sloppy defending and Adam Sleep bagging a brace. The home side did pull a goal back before the interval with a superb strike from Matt Searle. Sticker started the second half as if they meant business but again chances came and went with the two returning from injury first teamers Lloyd and Ben Rosevear the guilty parties. Eventually after continuing pressure Lloyd squared the ball for Martin Matthews to force home the equaliser. With time running out Lloyd at last managed to hit the target, which turned out to be the winning goal. Ben Nurse in the visitor’s goal deserved special mention for a number of brilliant saves.

Holywell/Cubert Athletic took advantage of the leaders not playing to take over at the top of Division Three. Connor Drew and Lee Copp with his first goal gave them a two nil win over Camelford.

Lanivet Inn won 3-2 at Tregony with Sam Goodswen scoring a brace and James Cackett adding their other goal. Connor Pearce and Simon Beel replied for Tregony.

An interesting set of results has opened up the Division Four title race. Third placed St.Neot handed just a second league defeat of the season on leaders North Hill. Adam Gregory scored a brace in a 4-2 win with Dan Chapman and Adam King completing the home tally. North Hill hit back through a Greg Hutchings goal and a Jason Ridgment penalty kick.

Second placed Lifton lost their chance to close the gap after being beaten 3-2 at home by Gorran. Lifton scored through Matt Endacott and an own goal, but the inconsistent visitor’s prevailed with a Jack Bray-Smith brace and a Mike Brennan goal.

Fourth placed Pensilva were denied a derby win late on as St.Cleer reserves equalised for a three all draw just before the end. Andy Cobb gave St.Cleer the lead on a heavy pitch with Adam Hicks restoring parity. Cobb scored again to restore the visitor’s lead, but Brendan McCarthy equalised just before the break. This was a little harsh on St.Cleer who had had the better of the first half giving the hosts a lot of problems. Pensilva improved after the break and Josh Johnson put them ahead for the first time. It was probably justice that Ben Fisher levelled at the death.

Veryan move three points clear at the top of Division Five after winning the only game played in that division 7-1 at home to Boscastle reserves. Bobby Lee-Johns, Justin Trebilcock and Charlie Mooney all scored a brace with Martin Bishop completing the home tally. The Boscastle consolation came from Dean Favreau.

LC PHOENIX 4 - STOKE CLIMSLAND 0

After the fixture was reversed, Launceston College Phoenix travelled to Stoke Climsland confident after last week's thrashing of Callington. Confidence is everything in football, and this was evident in the first half where, despite the understandably heavy pitch, Phoenix played with quality across the field.

Harry Marsh was in espcially good form, dragging his marker across the field, leaving gaps in the Climsland defence for the Phoenix attack to exploit. And exploit they did. Matt Brookes headed in from a Marsh cross, Nathan Cox ran into space opened up by Brookes and Marsh's fine movement to smash the ball home from twenty yards and Shaun Cox scored another spectacular long drive after the Climsland midfield failed to pick his run from deep.

Three goals up at half time suggested Stoke Climsland would have their work cut out to restore parity, but credit to them in the second half where they tried to take the game to Phoenix. Stoke found some success on the flanks but the Phoenix central defence and goalkeeper Nick Oldaker stifled any aerial threat. Despite a reinvigorated Climsland, Phoenix still threatened and worked hard to push them on the back foot and the Climsland goalkeeper deserves a mention for his oustanding performance in the second half; Phoenix could easily have walked away with seven or eight goals.

Eventually they did score again. This time it was Man of the Match and goal-assist merchant Harry Marsh, who trapped the ball at his feet after a Phoenix corner to slam it goalbound. Phoenix ran out deserved winnners and now look forward to a tricky away fixture against Holywell and Cubert who currently sit at the top of Duchy 3.

The White Hart Hotel Man of the Match Award: Harry Marsh- an intelligent, instrumental performance on a tricky surface.

St Neot FC 4- 2 North Hill

St Neot beat top of the table North Hill in a great team performance, with the home side racing to a 4-1 lead at half time thanks to goals from Adam King, Adam Gregory (2) and Dan Chapman! The 2nd half St Neot continued to press and hustle North Hill who pulled back a second after a soft penalty decision! St Neot didnt let that get to them and played well till the final whistle to beat North Hill and close the gap on the leaders!
