Attendance Comparitives

Recommended Posts

Two games in the SWPL this evening, one in Devon and one in Cornwall. Both could be construed as "derby games" with The Devon game based in Plymouth pulling in 130 between 4th v 6th placed sides, but the Cornwall game between 2 mid table sides pulling in an attendance of 310.

With no Argyle match distracting the football followers in Plymouth this evening, could we just be looking at a case of bigger clubs from Cornwall with a bigger pull plus reputation?

Newquay have a good presence online via the Official Website, Facebook & Twitter, each game is widely advertised. The club also have a great relationship with the Newquay Voice newspaper, quite often 2 pages are dedicated to match reports, pictures and news. This game was pushed as one not to miss, and yes, Friday night games in Winter help. Plus, with it being just 18 miles between the clubs, travel is quick for the fans at least. The 2 best supported clubs in the SWPL at this time, this was always going to be a 200+ crowd, very happy with 305, shows that advertising helps.

Glad to have also given a big plug for Cornwall Channel who screened the match live on the web, Twitter shows many players of other clubs tuned in + fans from around the Country who couldn't pop down to Mount Wise.

Not seen the footage, but anything that shows Cornish Football to the outside world can only be a good thing. Fair play to Piran Films / Cornwall Channel for covering Truro, St Austell and Newquay home games so far. For potential advertisers at these grounds, the added exposure is a bonus.

Typical of TMM to knock anything not connected to the Bankrupt club. From everyone I have spoken to and the comments on Twitter & Facebook, it was all positive, the game, the coverage and the fact that some who were unable to attend, could watch live.

Just dont understand the unnecessary critism to be honest. So typical of our Country.

I wonder if TMM beloved Truro were ever to make it back to Wembley for example and he happened to be out of the Country or unable to attend, would he be grateful for coverage then??

Cornwall Channel state that almost 1,700 tuned in at some point during the game, although only 192 have signed up for regular updates of future coverage. Add that to the 305 who did attend, I'd say that interest in good quality local football in Cornwall is still high. Why the Devon game only had 130 in attendance is puzzling, perhaps if The Herald featured SWPL games more it might help.

I very much doubt that all of the 1,700 live in Cornwall. On average how long did they tune in for? I did tune into the first game, but the picture wasn't great and the commentators were not good.

Have you tuned into the channel? Then you can give us your humble opinion!

I watched from Mount Wise with 304 others. You will have been counted as one of the 1,700 who tuned in at some point. Don't care where you or they live, they like you were curious enough to watch for some of the time.

Did you expect 27 cameras, Instant Slo-Mo replays, goal-line tech and Andy Gray ?

Please explain your reasons for thinking I need to 'get over myself' by what I've said?

The reasoning behind your harsh posts are becomming more clear by your grammar of a 10 year old Master Mourinho. Not sure what 'towwdle' is, and last I heard, 'ant' was either shortened from the name Anthony, or a tiny little insect that gets stepped on a lot. Probably just like you in the real world.
