FA. Vase 3rd Rd - Sat Dec 8th 2012

Recommended Posts

FA Vase days are always special and today two of our SWPL sides take on opposition from other leagues.

Two top of the table teams clash in the Bodmin v Downton match.

Downton play in the Sydenhams Premier League (Wessex) and have only lost twice in the league so far this season. It's the furthest they have ever got in the competition after beating Western Premier outfit Buckland Athletic.

Meanwhile St Blazey meet Gloucestershire based Western League Bitton, currently 7th in the table.

They reached this stage after winning 2-1 at New Milton Town

One side through as Bodmin 2v0 Downton, while St Blazey lost 3-0 against Bitton.

Bodmin were possibly slightly fortunate to be one nil up at the break through a Glyn Hobbs terrific free kick from about 25 yards. However they won the second half and after Chris Luxton saw a penalty be saved, Neil Slateford wrapped up the contest with another great Bodmin goal on the day.

Congrats must go to Bodmin. Great run to still be in the Vase in the new year. St Blazey missed Swain in midfield today. Picks up the loose ball and runs at teams. We had chances today. Another day one of those gos in and the game would have been so different. Bitton played some good football. Congrats to them also. If Bodmin were to draw them im sure Bodmin would feel confident of going through.

Finally.....well to Sir Bobby and the Bears for a memorable cup run. Look forward to next seasons vase run now.

Senior cup draw isnt to bad either. Liskeard have a good pitch and theres always a decent match between these sides.

St Blazey will be ruing missed chances tonight, but no doubt that Bitton were the better side.

While the Wembley dream must wait another year, few would have predicted St Blazey to get through 4 rounds of the Vase!

Up to Bodmin now to fly the flag of St Piran. All the best to them and Bitton in the next round.

Crowd at Blaise Park today looked to be around 115.

Went down to Blaise park yesterday and must say I was impressed with Bitton in the first half, but equally impressed by Blazey in the 2nd.

Such a shame Blazeys poor start was punished so efficiently by Bitton.

The second half, i felt, belonged to Blazey and should have scored at least 2 or 3 but it wasn't to be. If they can keep this squad for next season and add one or two to strengthen they will be a real force.

Credit to Bitton, their number 8 and 10 were the best players on the park and wish them all the luck for the next round.

Massive well done to Bodmin, I reckon they will surpass Torpoints q/f run of 2 years back with the right draw.
