Woodmanaldo
Troon 7 - 2 shortlanesend Troons scorers Dan Oliver 3 Graham cook 2 Ash wills 1 Bradley Phillips 1 9 wins in 9 keeping the dream alive Troon maintained their 100% record with a good second half display to take the 3 points in the end with relative ease against a decent Shortlanesend side. With Greg Wells going AWOL and not seen since the victory over Praze a fortnight earlier the world's slowest pint drinker Josh Reynolds came in at right back with first choice keeper Ady Martin back in goal after recovering from a fractured eyelash that had kept him out for the previous month. Troon dominated possession from the outset and deservedly took the lead in the 10th minute when Graham Cook's deflected strike somehow eluded Noonan in to give Troon the lead. Troon continued to dominate possession but failed to create too many clear cut chances with Shortlanesend looking dangerous on the break. Martin made a decent save low to his left to keep out Gareth Bone's low strike and 5 minutes later was beaten when Bone latched onto a throughball and tucked it past Martin to make it 1-1. However straight from kick off that man Dan Oliver pounced on a loose ball, sweeping the ball home from 4 yards to restore Troon's lead. Shortlanesend however soon made it 2-2 when was presented with a tap in. Troon were starting to create more chances at this stage with Noonan pulling off a couple of decent saves before a good volley from Oliver gave Troon the lead before the break. Oliver was recently rated as one of the top 5 strikers in Europe in the most recent edition of four four two along with Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie and Dave Rowe. Troon player/manager Marles asked to go into the changing rooms at half time as he as feeling rather cold, being the only player on the pitch who felt the need to wear gloves. Marles yet again came out with his usual arrange of classic quotes during the game such as "I'm the white Balotelli", "Don't pass to Ash Wills" and "Haydn Wise is my hero". Troon upped their game after the break and Bradley Phillips missed a good chance to grab the 4th goal when he failed to convert after a superb run and cross from Phil James. It wasn't long before the 4th goal came when Cook volleyed home following a fine passing move. Bradley Phillips then crashed home a rebound after brother Jason's effort came back off the woodwork before Oliver completed yet another hat-trick showing great determination to beat defender and keeper to a through ball. Rob Kellow who takes Sunday League football very seriously upended Bone in the box to maintain his excellent record of conceding penalties this season. Bone dispatched the spot kick to reduce the score to 6-3. Wills's screamer from 30 yards soon made it 7-3, must to the disgust of manager Marles who stated "there's no room for greed in my team" and instantly subbed Wills off to give him the hairdryer treatment. The game got really stretched in the last 10 minutes and Troon had further chances to grab further goals but in the end had to settle for seven to grab another excellent 3 points. Another good second half display and roll on next Sunday.
